Re: I. Tree Cave
But Mila, there wasnt a table in the guard room. The only table we've seen was by the well, and that is so far away. The boys need our help now. AdaRue refuses to retreat farther now that Tippin has rounded the corner.
it was 20 minutes from the wolf pelt room to this tunnel (per dave's time stamps), so that is at least 40 minutes round trip, not counting possible wandering monster encounters and decreased movement due to i creased encumbrance.

ooc: oops! Thanks for pointing that out.Rusty Tincanne wrote: it was 20 minutes from the wolf pelt room to this tunnel (per dave's time stamps), so that is at least 40 minutes round trip, not counting possible wandering monster encounters and decreased movement due to i creased encumbrance.
Mila
Lets Adarue stop her and considers the distance. "What do we do then?" She readies a dart, but definitely doesn't seem sure of herself.

Tippin lobs his last bottle of oil. It lands even farther from the goblins than his previous attempt did.

Re: I. Tree Cave
Omdog takes a look at the spreading fires and reconsiders. As he moves to the back of the line, he mutters to himself: Too late for charms, I think. Or as Magister Julian used to say, flaming oil is the extension of a charm offensive using oxidative processes. Hah, he wasn't kidding.
I run a blog. I also run a site for campaign wikis. I wrote a face generator, a character generator, a dungeon mapper, a Traveller subsector generator, and a hex map generator (editable as text).
Re: I. Tree Cave
Junius has an arrow ready. He knows it would be suicide to charge in with his sword, however much he would want to. He positions himself where he can provide cover if the goblins charge.
I dont believe he will have a shot at shooting this round. If he does (ie, goblins come out of hiding and are not in melee) he would fire.
edit to add provisional shot
Shortbow [1d20+1] = 20+1 = 21; [1d6] = 5
hmmm, maybe at least one goblin should peek his head out...

Re: I. Tree Cave
AdaRue does some quick recalculating and decides it would only be about a 10 minute round trip to get the table. Okay. You were right... Let's go. Rainey and Omdog, would you come with us? She tells the rest that they will be back with the table in 10 minutes. Don't do anything rash, okay?
WIll go with 2-3 others to fetch the table.

Rainey
Rainey seems a bit skeptical, but is game to go get the table. As they start going back for it, he'll try to think through the process, using questions like "Are we going to carry it? Roll it? What if the goblins attack while we're gone?"

Tom waits to see what the tossing of flaming oil produces.
OOC: Where doe the oil hit? What is the result? Tom will wait with bow ready, firing at any goblin that shows part of itself.
Short Bow [1d20+2] = 9+2 = 11 Damage [1d6] = 2

Mila Rushes along with Rainey & AdaRue. "Rolling will be easier... If the goblins attack and we cannot help our friends, I vote we make for the exit and get out of here." She looks at them both apologetically, but it is well known she is a coward, and she makes no secret of it.

Re: I. Tree Cave
Panting, AdaRue offers an optimistic outlook on the situation for Rainey and Mila's benefit. I'm sure those boys can keep those evil things put until we get back. They each have a bow to prevent the goblins from charging. You've seen them shoot things. They'll be fine. But let's hurry so Tippin doesnt have time to do anything dangerous.
Re: I. Tree Cave
Round 1
Tippin, still finding himself on the far end of the passageway, finishes lighting his last bottle of oil and turns to face the overturned table shielding the goblins. His planned action of lobbing the now flaming oil is interrupted by the sudden appearance of the concealed goblins as they rise up, target the halfling with their short bows, and fire! The outermost goblin, nearest the wall (g3), pulls back its drawstring and feels the tension quickly release as the bow snaps in its hand! Tippin is able to successfully avoid the errant second arrow (g2), but the last projectile (g1) nicks him on the forearm of his throwing hand (-3 hp)... causing the flask he eventually throws to fall hopelessly short.
The fourth goblin (g4), which moments earlier arrived behind the table, is spotted darting off further into the cavern and completely out of sight.
Junius, Keebler, Tom, and Watts, positioned with their bows readied on the entry side of the passage, spy the goblins pop up from behind the table and, while the foul dogmen still have considerable cover, they loose their own volley of arrows in defense of Tippin. Tom and Keebler stick their arrows into the thick wood of the obstructing table. Junius watches his arrow strike the middle goblin (g2) high, severing its ear, and sending it pirouetting to the floor. Watts, too, finds his mark and watches the arrow from his long bow sink into the shoulder of shoulder of the goblin whose bow snapped in half moments earlier (g3), driving it backwards into an outcropping in the wall at its rear... where it reaches to pull the shaft out of its shoulder while it slowly collapses. As soon as the arrows start flying, Mila, AdaRue, and Rainey agree to hurry back to the well room and roll the table from there back. "If the goblins..." Mila starts, allowing her thought to drift as she slows her pace a bit so AdaRue and Rainey can keep up with her. "Well, if we cannot help our friends, I vote we make for the exit and get out of here," she finishes apologetically. Already starting to pant as they reach the fire pit room, AdaRue offers an optimistic outlook on the situation for Rainey and Mila's benefit. "I'm sure those boys can keep those evil things put until we get back. You've seen them shoot things." she says through heavy breaths. "But let's hurry so Tippin doesn't have time to do anything dangerous." she adds. Between the combatants and those going to retrieve the table, Omdog and Canun lie in wait in the horizontal passage, with the arcane caster muttering to himself about how it's too late for a charm attempt.

If it isn't too late, AdaRue will leave her lantern with Canun, since Mila has one and we'll need our hands.

Junius tries to fire one more time, but the surviving goblins do not allow as much exposure as the one he hit previously.

Tom moves up (30' or as much as allowed if he can't go 30') and fires his bow again the next time a goblin shows itself.

Tippin ducks down, backs against the wall for cover, and backs the heck out of there to wait for the table to arrive.

Re: I. Tree Cave
Round 2
Tom advances towards the goblins and provides cover for Tippin who, clinging to the side wall of the passage, falls back, leaving a trail of blood behind him. As soon as the goblins pop their heads out, the archers are ready for them and let loose a volley of arrows. Tom, Keebler, and Junius all stick new arrows into the table still shielding the goblin archers. Watts, with an extremely errant shot, barely misses Tom, the unsuspecting halfling, as his arrow plinks off the side of the passageway.
The halfling also faces a pair of arrows coming from in front of him. The first (g1) sails harmlessly overhead, but the second, fired by the near critically wounded goblin (g3), is perfectly placed and sinks into the halfling's chest (-5) causing him to collapse to the ground, unmoving. Behind the action, Omdog accepts AdaRue's lantern before the cleric left to retrieve the table. Canun, moving more slowly than the others in pursuit of the table, finds himself lagging behind, in the dark, with the light of Mila's lantern disappearing ahead of him. The trio in the lead, led by Mila, reach the point where the door to the table room appears at the edge of her lantern.
