OOC & Stuff
Re: OOC & Stuff
sounds good, but for future reference how should we call it?
i see there is a clarification on the book that states that the spell is triggered when you are hit by an attack and that the +5 is given to include the triggering attack, i guess the only thing is that we include the damage roll at the same time
1st-level abjuration
Casting Time: 1 reaction, which you take when you are hit by an attack or targeted by the Magic Missile spell
Range: Self
Components: V, S
Duration: 1 round
An invisible barrier of magical force appears and protects you. Until the start of your next turn, you have a +5 bonus to AC, including against the triggering attack, and you take no damage from Magic Missile.
Spell Lists. Sorcerer, Wizard
Reactions
Certain Special Abilities, Spells, and situations allow you to take a Special action called a Reaction. A Reaction is an instant response to a trigger of some kind, which can occur on Your Turn or on someone else’s. The opportunity Attack is the most Common type of Reaction.
When you take a Reaction, you can’t take another one until the start of your next turn. If the Reaction interrupts another creature’s turn, that creature can continue its turn right after the Reaction.

Or sustained the subsequent round(s). It's kinda like, "psyche" that really didn't happen because of my reaction spell.Spearmint wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 11:15 pm Kind of like, how does that work? You take damage, cast a spell and turn back time? It is a confusing mechanism.
Sounds to me like as a reaction to taking damage, the shield manifests and then halts other damage that would be sustained that round, say from two seperate attacks? Not sure. Hey, I want my team to live so not complaining to see Tommy heal up again mind.
Doesn't make sense, and it's not fair for you as players to have to constantly remind yourselves (and your DM) that if so and so occurs, then this will happen as a reaction.
It makes no sense.
We react to things that have happened, not to prevent things from happening.
I realize this is a fantasy game and so fantastical things occur, but having a 1st level spell basically turn back time just doesn't make sense.
Thanks Octavio for sharing the spell description.

bruh, you're gonna love this one

1st-Level Enchantment
Casting Time: 1 reaction, which you take when a creature you can see within 60 feet of yourself succeeds on an attack roll, an ability check, or a saving throw
Range: 60 feet
Components: V
Duration: Instantaneous
You magically distract the triggering creature and turn its momentary uncertainty into encouragement for another creature. The triggering creature must reroll the d20 and use the lower roll.
You can then choose a different creature you can see within range (you can choose yourself). The chosen creature has advantage on the next attack roll, ability check, or saving throw it makes within 1 minute. A creature can be empowered by only one use of this spell at a time.

Re: OOC & Stuff
I'm actually going to go on record as stating that I personally like the 'reaction' mechanic in 5e. Quite a bit, actually.
Maybe not every application of it, and maybe not how they changed the Shield spell to use it, but the actual game mechanic itself makes a lot of sense to me.

Re: OOC & Stuff
I don't care for the bloat either; it's one of the reasons I left Pathfinder. Just too many character builds on top of character builds on top of specialist feats and skills and more character builds.
I just wanted to play a Dwarf fighter or a Human Ranger.
I don't use the Skills & Options rules/suggestions in 2E and I'm already over 5E.

Re: OOC & Stuff
Do you guys know, is there a mechanic for switching classes in 5th ed? Yarl wants to find some religion. BLACKTONGUE THE PALADIN!
Re: OOC & Stuff
that'd be Awesome!!!Computer +1 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 2:25 am Do you guys know, is there a mechanic for switching classes in 5th ed? Yarl wants to find some religion. BLACKTONGUE THE PALADIN!
for 5th ed there's no special requirement,
the only thing is that you keep the proficiencies from your original class, they dont change to the new one,
you know if you up level yarl on DNDbeyond the site will take care of all the rules and adjust it for you, just when you go up a level go in and add the new level of the new class, there is an option there
you can make a copy and try it out to test

I'm not sure Yarl is going to survive long enough to gain a level, but...Computer +1 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 2:25 am Do you guys know, is there a mechanic for switching classes in 5th ed? Yarl wants to find some religion. BLACKTONGUE THE PALADIN!
Like Belkregos said, there isn't really a mechanic for multiclassing, per se. You just kind of do it.
Simply:
It's a lot more generous than AD&D, but there still are minimum prerequisites.Multiclassing wrote:With this rule, you have the option of gaining a level in a new class whenever you advance in level, instead of gaining a level in your current class.
