Any insight on that portion?

Satisfied with her rendering of the runes and leaving the more esoteric Xanlanan and Lika to contemplate them, Nella moves to the large pile of bones to continue her observation by shining her light upon it...

I will try to update the game again later today, but regarding:
With her physician training, she also notes how the legs were separated (broken, torn, post-mortem, pre-mortem) and other wounds that appear on the skeletal superstructure.
Nella considers the upper torso and evidence suggest the two halves were forcefully separated. However, the ligaments holding the actual bones themselves are highly corroded (or likely eaten away) suggesting the form is barely being held together so this forceful separation may have occurred post-mortem. All muscles, tendons, and cartilage have long since been removed.

Given the amount of rust on the manacles, the remains have been in place for a significant duration of time, but gnaw marks and scratches on the underside of the lowest remaining set of ribs further support the observation that the remains have been "tampered with" or pulled apart over the years.

Room of Bones
The scouts -- Gruuthuk and Unari -- hold their current positions at the end of the hallway after Lika confirms the others will need another few moments.

Lika shines her light on the glyphs, failing to understand the language. "It looks like a Tiefling. They speak Infernal, right?" he notes, keenly. "I'm not a scholar, but that looks right to me."

After checking Nella's transcription, the sorcerer begins to move to help the search for other passages. "I agree, this place and its alcoves just feels...incomplete," he adds.



Nella concludes her investigation of the skeletal torso and begins to move towards the large collection of bones in the alcove in the opposite corner of the room.

A thunderous rattling sounds disrupt the normal quiet as the pile of bones Nella is approaching seem to erupt!


The ever-aware monk is able to avoid being surprised, but is the first to witness the violent entrance of what appears to be three giant... slugs, with a faceful of tentacles from the pile of bones!


Dormant no more, the first (blue) slithers directly in Nella's direction.

The second and third effortlessly scatter up the walls proving their impressive and capable mobility. They leave a faint trail of secretions in their wake.

The second (green) takes to the far wall, depositing itself in the northwest corner, between Nella and Xanlanan.

The third (red) glides along the wall, bending effortlessly around the corner to the right, dropping into the room just between Nella and Lika.

I'm glad Nella passed her roll because I'll admit to being surprised there... at no point did I think that three size Large creatures would pop out of the trash pile! :lol:

Abruptly finding herself completely surrounded in slimy slug-bulk, Baroness Nella draws her longsword. Glancing about, she sees no egress, so she will test the... viscosity?... of this new threat. Her first move will be against (red) slug, to rescue Lika and clear a path for retreat...

Initiative [1d20+3]=4+3=7
That's slow. If Lika slays Red first, she will shift to Blue.
Attack: Longsword [1d20+6]=15+6=21[1d8+3]=1+3=4 Unarmed [1d20+6]=11+6=17[1d6+3]=6+3=9

When Lika tells them they need time, the bugbear pulls out a dagger and begins picking bits of food from between his teeth. When the commotion begins in the other room, Gruuthuk looks at Unari. What they do now? He'll hurry back to the curious members, drawing his rapier on the way. If he sees anything threatening, he'll attack with the rapier.
Initiative: [1d20+3]=18+3=21

Lika recoils in disgust when usually normal prey suddenly appears as nightmare-inducing avatars of vengeance. Visions of all the previous bugs and things he's eaten fill her head. "Eeep!"

She involuntarily backs up and touches the wall. He twirls his arms around in a circle and twin bolts of energy lash out at the giant hors d'oeuvres.

Xanlanan stutters a step at the surprise - but seems to react quickly!

Initiative [1d20+2]=14+2=16

He first let's off a quick fire bolt at the nearest creature..
Ranged Attack [1d20+7]=19+7=26
Fire Bolt [2d10]=5

...then quickly channels his sorcerous powers to quicken another spell!

Magic Missile [1d4+1]=1+1=2 / [1d4+1]=2+1=3 / [1d4+1]=4+1=5

(convert 2 SPs to enable magical missile spell as a bonus action on the same creature (green) - let me know if I'm interpreting this ability incorrectly!)

Round 1
"What they do now?" Gruuthuk grumbles as a commotion breaks out in the room behind them. "No clue, we better see," Unari replies, and the pair rush back up the hallway to see what the commotion is all about. At the end of their movement, the pair are able to observe what appears to be an invasion of large tentacled slug creatures -- three of them!

The nearest, which landed right behind Lika, appears to almost block off entry into the rest of the room from the egress hallway they find themselves in.

Gruuthuk uses his rouge abilities to eke out a bit of extra movement, stealthily rounding the corner and engaging with the large slug pestering Lika. The rouge effectively jabs his rapier into the slimy exterior of the mollusk with the added bonus of having snuck upon his prey.

Unari reaches the corner and, with her bow readied, lets loose a prepared arrow at the same target... then another. The first ricochets harmlessly off the mucus-coated exterior of the creature, but her second shot is more precise, sinking into and ultimately getting lost in the blubber.

Back inside the room, Xanlanan lets off a quick firebolt at the nearest creature... then simultaneously launches three glowing darts of magical force into the same foe!

"Blurghgh!" the creature groans as mucus secretions quickly begin to fill the many wounds it has suffered.

While extremely weakened, the menacing beast (red) unsuccessfully lashes out with its double-rows of teeth at Lika, then whips its head around, coiling its slimy tentacles around Gruuthuk. The strike burns (-3), and the halfling can feel an unnatural sting attempting to seize his body, but is (barely) able to fend off any additional effects.

After having been singed by the sorcerer moments earlier, the giant slug in the corner (green) seeks revenge against Xanlanan! The half-elf feels a chunk of flesh being torn away from his left, upper arm (-9) as the creature snaps its two rows of razor-sharp teeth down upon with pained accuracy; then come the tentacles, which wrap themselves around his upper torso and result in a burning pain (-6). He, too, begins to feel heat begin to fill his body.

No as-needed roll was provided. I am going to need Xanlanan to attempt a DC 13 Constitution saving throw, please.

The remaining mucus monster (blue) takes aim at Nella. The baroness is able to avoid the lunging bite attack from the creature, but she, too, feels a burning pain (-6) as the gastropod wraps its dangerous tentacles around her! Thankfully, her constitution is able to overcome any extra effects from the attack.

The monk retaliates, slicing into the heavily weakened creature in front of her (red), bringing it to the verge of death... the finishes the job with a quick kick! The first blubbery foe collapses into a slimy mess.

With an avenue for retreat now cleared, the baroness swiftly looks to fend off the large slug looming behind him. With a flurry of perfectly placed strikes, the monk is able to inflict serious pain against her foe... at the expense of coating her hands and feet with mucusy secretions.

If everyone retreats, she will use her movement to follow but I otherwise expect to remain engaged.

Lika keeps her focus on the alive slugs, doing his best to avoid thinking about how tasty they must be. The scorching effects of the tentacles suggest a spicy treat and he wonders if she'll have to share.

Shaking off the culinary daydream, Lika blasts a pair of twin orange bolts at the slug harassing Xanlanan.
Eldritch Blast: [1d20+6]=10+6=16 Damage: [1d10+3]=3+3=6
Eldritch Blast: [1d20+6]=13+6=19 Damage: [1d10+3]=8+3=11
He applies a little extra punch and pushes the slug back 10ft for each hit, hopefully slamming it into the wall.

The bugbear steps forward 10 feet and uses his long arms to enable himself to use his rapier to attack with reach. His first attack easily strikes deep, causing serious damage. The second attempt...not so much.

Round 2
Undeterred by the slimy mess in front of him, Gruuthuk climbs over the corpse of the tentacled slug killed moments earlier, and using his reach, jabs his rapier deep into the slug pestering Nella. A greenish goo now coats his blade, but the second bug collapses into a slimy mess, dead.

Unari, too, disregards the mess in front of her, easily scooting over the fallen form, and subjects her blade to the same green, gooey mess as Gruuthuk as she jabs it successfully; her blade sinking into the mushy form with little resistance.

Inching back slightly, Xanlanan sends another mote of flame in the direction of the giant creature, searing away a patch of its rubbery form, causing it to writhe in pain.

A twinned pair of orange bolts from Lika sends the remaining slug slamming against the far wall, where it leaves a massive mucus imprint as it slides to the floor, where it ultimately remains unmoving.

The scorching effects of the tentacles suggest a spicy treat and Lika wonders if she'll have to share... eager to claim her share of the available escargot.
