Quest #32 "Visiting With The Neighbors"
Re: Quest #32 "Visiting With The Neighbors"
Dexter Broadleaf
Dexter looks to Daisy. "I'm not like Sir William," he says. "Not an honorable knight. My best fighting is done from behind with surprise and little chance of giving my enemy a chance to strike a blow of his own. Let me come at them from the foliage and hit before they know I am there."

Liam half sighs and half growls. Dammit all... Okay... May the gods be with our companions up the trail... You're right. We will wait for them to pass by and then continue back to town...SirOwen wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 8:23 pm Jaxsen Reiter
Jaxsen's face takes a stoic turn. "We did not decide on this route to outflank the Stoneguts, but rather to warn the people of Beachtown that our hive may be in danger. If we do attack the Dwarves, then we risk the town being taken unaware. But... I am but a grub, and will defer to the wisdom of my elders, Liam."

Daisy
Daisy ruffles Sophie's fur, scratching her between the ears. She'll recover. Ah like how you think, Dex- but Ah'm not sure we can get through- that underbrush is thicker than Granny Petunia's beef stew. Let's try and get closer before we make any plans.

The Princess
Wis(15): Hard Check: [4d6]=18
Focused solely on handling the lizard, she tries to bump her mount into the smaller mount of the dwarf. "No comeback? Don't worry, I'll give you some extra time to think of one. I know it's hard for you to do two things at once."

Re: Quest #32 "Visiting With The Neighbors"
Triple Threat
Godsday, 23rd of Goodmonth
Early Afternoon, Overcast, Hot, Humid
Near the Loggers Trail:
Liam and Jaxsen stay in the bushes, watching as the pair of lizards and their 4 dwarven riders slowly pass by their position. They don't appear to have been spotted.
Behind the Fighting:
Once Sophie has had a drink and a rest, the halflings resume their chase, jogging up the trial again in hopes of finding their good looking friends in front of them. Dexter hears more clashing of weapons, so he is hopeful that their chase will be a short one.
The Battle Of Dwarf Trail:
As Sir Narramore flails away again at the moving dwarf, something strange at the edge of the trail catches his eye as they pass by. There is a small patch of tall reeds that appears to be recently trampled, as if someone with very large feet decided to leave the path and head cross country. They pass by this area quickly, preventing him from seeing anything else in the tall mass of green vegetation.
The Princess is having a good time harassing the dwarven lizard rider, still chiding him with her devastating wit as they continue to bump and rub around the next bend. The dwarf keeps his tongue to himself this time, deciding to let his actions do the talking for him. Instead of stabbing at the huge, heavily armored paladin again, and since the elf keeps her lizard close enough, the dwarf does something dastardly and unexpected. He shoves his sword into the front shank of the lizard next to him, just under the creatures neck, nearly burying the blade to its hilt and almost losing it from his meaty hand. When he yanks it back out again with a violent twist, a spray of hot blood spews from the horrid wound. The lizard howls out in pain, dropping its chest to the ground and sliding to an abrupt stop right there on the trail. (A successful Hard Dex check will prevent you from flying off the front of the animal, and thereby negating your next action.)
The laughing dwarf pulls ahead of the pair, but stops his lizard after a few dozen yards to turn and check on his handy-work.
Actions?
Jaxsen 10/19
Liam 4/9
Dexter 8/23
Daisy 11/16 1/3 first 2/2 second
Sophie AC:4 2/6
Narramore 7/12 LOH

Once the dwarves have passed, the old man will slowly stand and check to make sure they are well on their way before slipping out of the foliage and resuming his dogged pace back towards Beachtown.

The Princess
You just can't let me have anything nice, can you?
Hard Dex(18):Hard Check: [4d6]=12
She gasps as the dwarf unsportingly stabs the front tire leg of her mount. She manages to stay mounted but the crushing quip she thought of goes flying out of her head. "Son of a bitch!"
She jumps off the surely dying lizard and draws her sword, moving to help Sir Narramore to his feet, glaring at the dwarf.

Jaxsen Reiter
Standing beside Liam, Jaxsen says, "I believe those were the only Dwarves we encountered along the main trail. With them behind us again, we shouldn't have any others to worry about. Just the regular animals, plants and monsters." He looks at his friend again, "You want to take a drink before we head out again?"

"OK, that works for me," Dexter says. "But even if we don't go into the heavy foliage, we need to at least get a bit off the trail. Deep enough to assist in covering us, but not deep enough to slow us down overly much." As he has done before. Dexter peels off large fronds and stalks and begins to camouflage himself and Daisy. Looking at Sophie, he shakes his head. "She's so low to the ground, I doubt we'll improve on her natural colors."

He nods, taking a pull from his waterskin and sucking in some more wind before resuming. We really stepped in it this trip... This couldn't have gone more wrong.

Jaxsen nods, but adds no comment of his own, trying to focus on the good of the Hive rather than the promotion of the Self. He, too takes a drag from his waterskin and heads out alongside his friend.

Re: Quest #32 "Visiting With The Neighbors"
I gave you a Dex check. What more could you want?

Triple Threat
Godsday, 23rd of Goodmonth
Early Afternoon, Overcast, Hot, Humid
On the Loggers Trail:
Liam and Jaxsen allow the pair of lizards to pass them by unseen before taking a drink and continuing their long run in the oppressive heat and humidity.
Can I get a Normal Con check from Liam please?
Behind the Fighting:
Dex stuffs some more foliage in his shirt and pants before starting after their friends again. He and Daisy keep close to the edge of the trail as they advance, in case they need to dive for cover. Once they start out again, the fighting noises in front of them continue to grow louder. They hear a loud groan ring out in the distance, but it doesn't seem to be coming from either of their 2 comrades.
The Battle Of Dwarf Trail:
Narramore flips ass over tea kettle off the front of the rapidly decelerating lizard, landing hard on the trail in front of it. 1 dam Seeing that this creature is surely doomed, its blood gushing from the deep wound now, the Princess also dismounts, a bit more gracefully, to rush to the side of her not so heroic Gallant.
As they get the bruised human back to his feet again, they turn to see the mounted dwarf, still in the middle of the trail a few yards ahead of them. The cocky dwarf leers at them from his safe distance, waving for them to come and get him, if they dare. "What? Ya dinna like that one, lassy? Come on over ere an let me show ye what else I can do."
Actions?

Re: Quest #32 "Visiting With The Neighbors"
Is the lizard's body situated in such a way that Narramore could move behind it and use it for cover?

Liam
Keeping a disciplined control of his breathing and pace, Liam proves he still has it when it counts. Some of that old physical conditioning still hanging around for the old man.

The Princess
She whispers to Sir Narramore as she helps him up. "Hold. That bastard wants us to attack now. Moments ago he was running for his life. I smell a trap."
Yelling bald-faced lies to the Stonegut in dwarven: "You have us at a disadvantage. Why stop now after you killed your kin? Lose your nerve? And for what? A few gems? When your King hears of your treachery, you're as good as dead!"
She makes a show of huffing and puffing. "You killed my mount! I paid for that, as you know, and I demand compensation!" She starts walking back towards the dying lizard while gesturing wildly.

Bless me. I read that earlier and lost it.
Life really needs to slow back down before I turn into a complete airhead. Rather than just most of one.
