Or are they so intricate that you would need the book with you to use them? If the latter, could repeated use allow one to cast the spell without the book? If so, I imagine Carcosa has access to all of these spells and more....
Does the book indicate what the named spells do? E.g., what does inscribing an Elder Sign do? Where do the Gates go?
The rituals are complex and require the book on hand. I suppose with enough repetition one could cast them, but that seems far off to Reginald. Yes, though I didn't go into it in that particular post, the book details what the named spells do, though the language, meaning or interpretation may not be clear. The Gates seem to involve transportation to locations determined by the caster using provided incriptions, cadences and utterances. What these actually mean is not 100% certain. Some of the text is in the unknown language that Timothy Carver used. One can pronounce it (hopefully correctly) even if one doesn't know the meaning.
I guess we'll play out Spell research/casting in IC to explore more.

I'm on the fourth episode of HBOs True Detective, a show that has the vibe of this campaign (in my head at least.) It's a well-acted, dark, slow-moving unfolding of psychological depravity tinged with occultism. And there's a Carcosa!
