Education, Degrees: a GED equivalency
Birthplace: Colorado, America
Residence: A small apartment, 27th street
Income:5,000$
Savings:500$

Appearance & Personality:
He is a very scrawny guy that you might fear for his health when you see him, he has a decent looking face with a shallow beard that run from ear to ear and brown eyes that shows both pain and enlightenment. His hair was short and black which was always showing because he never wore a hat believing that it makes him look arrogant.

He is a bit of an oddball, through a major change in his life he achieved what he calls “A sort of enlightenment” which changed the way he looked at the world completely. He is a cynic of almost everything, he always says “Behind every abnormal activity is a normal explanation”. He hated money, he believed that it’s the source of all evil, that greed turns good people into bad like himself in the past. He smiles a lot and tries to be as sociable as he can but he makes it a bit weird by injecting his own philosophy in the conversation. Not afraid to share his opinions. He often drifts into his own world, thinking heavily of something or the other. He takes enough money from his salary to maintain living and the rent on his small apartment and donates the rest, he sees it more as a repentance than a normal good deed.

Background:
He was born into an odd family, eccentric parents that would do the craziest of things, like deciding to travel around the world for no particular reason. So for his first 16 years of his life he didn’t stay in one place for too long except japan where he spent 3 years and picked up a bit of the language and culture including myths.

When he was 16, his family came back to America and left him there, saying “You are now old enough to experience the world” and they moved on to their next adventure. The teen boy realised quickly that life isn’t as magical as his parents depicted it. He fell into the life of crime and theft to continue on living. He wasn’t strong but his extreme speed and quick wits enabled him to defeat men twice his size, and he continued living that way for 4 years.

One day he was trying to steal a car, not knowing that it belonged to an BOI agent and he was caught in the act. Agent Bruce Miller (I suppose it would be interesting to replace him with another player’s character, you can do that if you want) who thought that instead of putting him in jail, he would train him, he saw some potential in the young delinquent and Gwen was happy as long as he doesn’t go to jail. He trained hard and in two years made it as an official BOIagent with Bruce Miller as his partner (again optional, you can spin this however way you choose) and quickly picked up a reputation for himself as a super rookie.

He was married at 26 to Laura Evans, a court clerk, but they divorced three years later, though he is still in love with her.

Likes and Hates:
Likes busting myths
Likes cigarettes
Likes piazza (who doesn’t XD)
Hates money or at least what it symbolizes
Hates authority figures (Ironically)
Hates traveling

Religion: Atheist
Political Leanings: Nothing
Languages Spoken: English, Japanese
Professional Associations and Connections: Bruce Miller, partner and high BOI official
A Secret: He has a small fear of blood

Education, Degrees: Self Taught, No legitimate schooling
Birthplace: Galway, Ireland
Residence: Providence, RI
Income: $700/year
Savings: $300

Appearance: Short brown hair, greyish blue cloudy eyes, average but muscular build mostly from all of the street fights he was in.

Personality: Is wild and rowdy, looking to have fun and fight, luckily for him those two are basically the same thing to him. He is sarcastic most of the time and enjoys the more subtle nuances of life as well, such as cooking.

Background: Grew up in Galway, Ireland to a family of 4 siblings. He lost two siblings, his older brother and youngest sister, during the famine before they were able to pack up and get a ship to take them to America, his father died on the ship during their voyage due to some petty violence that got out of hand over some hidden bread. Growing up he was always running with the kids of the city, getting into fights and stealing things from the local stores, generally making trouble. After the death of his two siblings and father he changed, his intent to no longer just fight but to provide; So when they got off the ship its no wonder he found himself in league with one of the new Irish gangs sprouting up, doing whatever he had to in order to bring food and money to his family. When home he will do most of the cooking while his mother is at one of the factories, plucking and gutting chickens from an assembly line, as well as trying to teach his younger brother how to read. His other remaining sibling is a sister that is younger then him by only a year and is usually never home, out with some guys or getting mixed up in things she shouldn't be, Darrin usually has to save her, in his eyes he is trying to save her from her own stupidity. Even though his motives have changed he still enjoys a good fight.

Education, Degrees: A.B. (History) from Brown University
Birthplace: Boston
Residence: Providence
Income: $1500/year (average for 1925 from what I can tell)
Savings: $100

Appearance & Personality: White, Brown hair, brown eyes. Quiet, sometimes moody. Usually reserved.

Background: Reginald was always a voracious reader. He was a model student in junior high and high school, earning an academic scholarship to Brown University. While he has a natural intellectual curiosity, Reginald lacks the mental discipline to truly commit to his studies. He graduated without honors from Brown with a degree in History. Despite failing to distinguish himself as an undergraduate, Reginald spent the next 10 years as a graduate student in the History department at Brown, specializing in the early mythological and religious practices of the ancient Egyptians. (Because many of the commentaries on these works are written in Arabic, Reginald learned enough of that language to enhance his studies of Egyptian.) Although he had a very strong grasp of the material, Reginald was ultimately released from the university, due to his failure to complete his dissertation in a timely manner (making Reginald the first ABD student in Brown history). He always preferred to pilfer through old books and ancient texts than to complete the dull academic writing that was required for his degree. Indeed, the few short papers he did attempt during his tenure in grad school were heavily criticized as making outlandish claims regarding the ancient Egyptians and their gods; the tomes that interested Reginald the most were the oldest and least in conformity with well-known ancient practices. Hence, his papers typically went unpublished. After being excused from the university, Reginald opened up a small bookstore with the library of rare and ancient texts that he had acquired for himself as a student. He maintains a working relationship with a few members of the History department, and from time to time is allowed into the university library. Reginald has few friends, although an old drinking buddy from his undergraduate days takes him out skeet shooting occasionally. His bookstore is quite modest, and Reginald is reluctant to sell the few items that have serious value. He does, however, make enough from sales of rare books to wealthy private collectors to maintain a modest lifestyle. He occasionally travels to arrange sales to private collectors, but prefers to remain in his small apartment by the university. Reginald has, in the past, perused some of his most esoteric texts, the ones that his unnamed clients seemed most interested in. Sometimes, after reading one of those old books, Reginald has horrifying yet extremely vivid nightmares. These days he rarely opens those books, although he remains strangely drawn to them....
Religion: raised Catholic, currently unaffiliated
Political Leanings: Progressive (mildly)
Professional Associations and Connections: Brown University History department, wealthy book collectors (in the US and England)
A Secret: Reginald occasionally visits a house of prostitution after making a big sale. He always gives a fake name.
Languages Spoken: English (native), Ancient Egyptian, Arabic
Likes: cats, black coffee, skeet shooting
Dislikes: bureaucracy/red tape (he blames university administration for his failure to complete his PhD), wearing a tie, Prohibition

Education, Degrees: High school
Birthplace: New York, NY
Residence: New York, NY
Income: $25 a day, plus expenses.
Savings: Precious little.
Cash: $2,400
Purchases: -$40 in guns and drugs, 5/13/16

Personality:
Sam Archer's sense of humor is as black as an honest politician's prospects. A two-fisted graduate of the hardboiled school, he's world-weary and close mouthed about his feelings and his past. Archer is streetwise, resourceful and unpredictable. Gruff, smart, tough-talking and totally in control with men, he's been known to do stupid things for a dame in trouble.

Likes/Dislikes:
Sam Archer likes drinking, smoking, baseball, jazz and pretty women, but not in that order.

Appearance:
Sam Archer's face was a series of sharp angles, points and v's, giving one the impression of a thirsty hatchet with eyes. The mouth was cruel and surly.

Background:
A bastard born into New York's brand of Irish Catholic poverty, and on the police force by age 17, Archer cut his teeth on gangland New York, leaving him with a love of jazz, gin and not much else. After five years on the beat, and only a middleweight belt from the department boxing league to show for it, he was drafted into some damn fool war in Europe. It was in France that he lost his romantic notions about honor and nobility and such.
After the war, he learned his craft with the Pinkertons, catching con men, grifters and killers in Denver, Seattle, San Francisco, Baltimore, Philly and New York. One day, a steady Pinkerton client, the owner of a large mining concern in Butte, offered Archer money to kill a union leader during a long miners strike. Archer politely declined, and the union man soon ended up dead in a car wreck. The week after that, Archer left the Pinkertons and started up his own small detective agency. It's been limping along for three years now.

Modus Operandi:
A Pinkerton man through and through, when on a case Archer believes the ends justifies the means. He'll lie to criminals, cheat them, mislead them, break into their homes, turn them against each other, anything except kill them in cold blood. Which is ironic, actually. Most "private detectives" of the day were, in fact, hired muscle and/or killers. Archer will use this to his advantage when dealing with criminals, letting them believe he's as crooked and corrupt as they are, in order to gain their trust. Because of this popular misconception, Archer doesn't often "go undercover" or misrepresent himself.

Religion: Atheist, raised Catholic.
Political Leanings: Agnostic, raised pro-labor, left-leaning populist.
Professional Associations and Connections: Former NYPD, former Pinkerton operative, licensed private detective.
A Secret: When Archer was a kid, he had a run in with the occult. He's blocked it out of his memory.
Languages Spoken: American English, and little Spanish, French and German from the war.

Education, Degrees: Sunday school and Ipswich local
Birthplace: Ipswich
Residence: Arkham
Income: very low
Savings: none

Appearance: a balding old man, maybe in his 70s, judging by his appearance. His gray beard is long and unkempt, but his skin and clothing is clean and tidy. Often mumbling to himself.
Personality: mostly snappy and unwelcoming, never speaking much, but sometimes out of the blue spurns out long monologues.
Background:
Isaiah Bartlett was born in Ipswich, in 1862. He had a strict, Puritan up-bringing. As the oldest son, he followed in his father's footsteps, running the sawmill. He married a local girl from a similar family, Mariah, they had kids: a daughter and two sons. After his father's death, Isaiah inherited the mill. Things were going well, he built more sawmills, business flourished. Like most successful businessmen, he joined the local Masonic lodge.

Here comes a part that was inspired by "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" (one of my favourite HPL stories). There the Order of Dagon was "soon came to be the greatest influence in the town, replacing Freemasonry altogether and taking up headquarters in the old Masonic Hall on New Church Green". Something similar happened in Ipswich in the 1890s. The lodge was gradually transformed into something different. Isaiah was still considered a youngster (he was in his mid 30s), so he wasn't let "in" on any big secrets... but he didn't like what he knew. He objected, and tried to fight them, but the fanatic once-Masons - now-cultists decided to teach him a lesson by doing something utterly horrific: they sacrificed Isaiah's son to their dark gods. Isaiah lost his mind and was committed to an asylum. He lost his sawmills, his family, everything.

He was let out of the asylum a decade later. He wasn't cured, of course... but he was more or less able to function in society. He moved to Arkham City. He was taken in by a religious widow, Mrs. Challice, dedicated to helping the less fortunate. Isaiah earns some money making small wooden objects (he picked up some carpentry at the sawmill as well, not only accounting skills!).

But his past haunts him at all times. He remembers everything - the sacrifice, the laughing cultists, the horror, the ungodly abomination that devoured his son.
Religion: Protestantism
Political Leanings: Conservative
Professional Associations and Connections: former Freemason
A Secret: having spent 10+ years in an asylum is not something he would tell about…

Background
Eddie was born in Providence, R.I. in 1893 to Michael and Fiona Sharpe, both laborers in the town's textile industries. Forced to start working at an early age, Eddie's first real job was as a paper boy delivering the Providence Journal along a paper route in one of the town's more well-to-do areas. Realizing the boy had a head for reading and writing, one of the editors eventually allowed him to do some work inside the office as well. Although mostly fetching coffee and emptying trash cans, Eddie came to learn a great deal about the making of a newspaper through sheer osmosis. At the age of 18, Eddie got his first writing job, covering local cultural events. A couple of years later a position as reporter opened up at the Arkham Gazette, and Eddie got the job at the recommendation of his boss at the Journal.

His parents being devoutly Catholic, Eddie was also introduced to the local parish and served as altar boy for a period. He befriended the church pastor, Father Thomas O'Meara, and the two have kept in touch sporadically even after Eddie moved to Arkham. Eddie is not exactly an actively practicing Catholic, but he observes some rituals and even goes to Confession once a year or so.

Politically, Eddie voted for Coolidge in the last Presidential elections and generally supports the President's policies of restricting immigration and lowering income taxes. Although he is not politically active, keeping himself in the loop of the political goings-on is part of Eddie's job.

Professional connections
  • Sevellon Brown, current managing editor of the Providence Journal.
  • Walt Harvey, editor of the Arkham Gazette's current affairs/newsroom desk.
  • Moe 'Stompy' Collins, a local jazz club/speak-easy owner; used to play the saxophone in the Stompy Collins Quartet.
  • Detective Sergeant Billy Finnegan, an Irish-American policeman working mostly with thefts and burglaries in the Arkham area.
Personality
Eddie is generally curious and open to new experiences, a trait which has helped his career in news-writing since he strives to leave no stone unturned in the hunt for the truth behind any story. He is also very organized and keeps careful notes. Although his apartment is small and crammed with stuff, he tries to keep it in good order.

Socially, Eddie is a bit of an introvert and enjoys reading a good book or sitting at a solitary corner table in a jazz club, rather than being on the dance floor or chatting to strangers. He can come across as quiet and solemn, and Eddie tends to keep a few friends for a long time rather than having a huge but shallow social network. He's no gossip writer, you know!

Eddie has somewhat of a nervous streak, and he is known to worry about things beforehand.

A Secret
During an extremely slow news season a few years ago, Eddie staged a burglary in an Arkham town house and spent almost two weeks writing about it and the search for the perpetrators. In reality, nothing of value was stolen and the hobo who was paid five dollars to smash the window was too drunk to even recognize Eddie when they had a chance meeting a few months later. If the truth came out, it could kill Eddie's career in crime reporting.

Education, Degrees: PhD from Brown in RI.
Birthplace: Providence, RI
Residence: Arkham, MA
Income:
Savings:

Appearance & Personality: White, blonde hair, blue eyes. Tall and rail thin.
Background: Harold is the youngest of three brothers. They picked on him as a child and teen (thus he has hand fighting skills), but no one else ever beat him up twice. Jonny, a Lutheran pastor, is the oldest of the three with Clark in the middle. Harold was closest with Clark who is a professor of literature at Princeton. Harold first learned to play the violin in an attempt to impress Susan deVore, the most popular girl in school. This failed, but it did attract Susan's best friend, Cassandra Gallo. Naturally, Harold kept up the violin. Harold and Cassandra became inseperable and married after high school. They have 2 children, a boy and a girl. His time in graduate school was trying on their marriage, and he took a job as a chemical engineer at a local manufacturing plant before the call of professorship lured him back. Just this year, he was hired at Arkham.

On his way to Arkham to find an house before school started, he had a side trip to a small village known as Emberhead. It wasn't on the map before and certainly isn't now. His bus "broke down" with him as the only passenger. In his two days in Emberhead, he discovered a cult that sacrificed one outsider per year so they might have another year without aging. Harold barely escaped being the guest of honor at the bonfire. As he rode away on an appropriated bicycle, he heard inhuman screams above and behind. He did not look back.

While in Emberhead, he found a secret room in the town's records office/library. It contained a book of poetry entitled "Azathoth and Other Horrors" E. Pickman Derby. After escaping, he studied the book for several weeks, unraveling strange patterns within the lines and learning of terrible entities. He hasn't had a full night's sleep since. If he had been given the book before Emberhead, he would have laughed it off as nonsense. Not now. He knows that Miskatonic U has a great collection of esoteric manuscripts, but Harold doesn't know if he can trust them. To find out more, he decides to return to Providence to meet his friend, Reginald Wilkins.

Religion: Lutheran, Devout.
Political Leanings: Conservative (as little government as possible). A huge fan of current president Calvin Coolidge.
Professional Associations and Connections: Miskatonic University engineering department.
A Secret: He has a deep fear of being buried. Had specified cremation in his will. Since the bonfire of Emberhead, he is rethinking this.
Languages Spoken: English and German

Education, Degrees: Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at Emmanuel College, Master's Degree in English Literature at Miskatonic University

Birthplace: Boston, Massachusetts

Residence: Arkham, Massachusetts

Income: $7,000 annually

Savings: $6,300

Appearance & Personality: Josephine is a slender, attractive lady with long, blonde hair and a fair complexion. She dresses conservatively while teaching and out on the town, but can dress to impress if the situation demands it. Inspired by the Sherlock Holmes books, of which she read constantly, she is inquisitive and thoughtful and eager to prove herself in a "man's world". She is highly intelligent, but she is also headstrong and determined, often leading her into trouble.

Background: Edwin and Nora Clark were not wealthy by any stretch. A good, hard-working, Catholic family, they had 5 children before the youngest, Josephine was born. The Clark's tried to provide for their children as best they could, but times were hard and continued to get harder. Josephine's four brothers all went to college right at 18 in hopes of making it big. Little Josephine was bred to be a lady, to be a good housewife and mother when the time came.

Josephine didn't want that. In a time where women were slowly trying to make it on their own, she decided she had enough, and against her parent's wishes, she enrolled in college and got in and persued her degree in literature, which she was always passionate about.

One of her favorite books was Sherlock Holmes and sparked her side business of solving crimes. Any mystery she could get her hands on, she hooked into and didn't let go, much to the charge-in of the local authorities.

After getting her Master's degree at Miskatonic University, being one of very few women in the graduating class, she got a job teaching there, thanks to her professor, who retired shortly after.

Religion: She was born and raised Catholic, but she has since decided to stray away from the church and form her own opinions.

Political Leanings: She doesn't pay much mind to politics, but she has supported the Democratic party.

Professional Associations and Connections: Teacher's Union at Miskatonic University, Women in Teaching (small clique of women teachers at colleges)

A Secret: She has had run-ins with the law for her "snoopyness" into the crimes in her area. She has actually solved a few cases given to her, though she had never received credit for them.

Income:2,000$
Savings:4,000$

Appearance & Personality:
He is a very tall man with a feint beard and brown eyes. He had long brown hair that causes people to mistake him for a hippie quite a lot.

He is a quiet man but always smiling. Rarely talks unless asked, but when asked he answers honestly, he doesn't have anything to hide and is genuinely surprised when people are offended. He is very polite, he respects everyone equally regardless of who they are or their background. He is almost never appalled by anything, whatever grim fact unfolds of history, he is more intrigued than ever and it's hard for him to contain his excitement, he starts blabbing like he is someone else even. He doesn't like titles, he often asks people to call him Francis rather than Dr.Morgan but doesn't insist on it.

Background:
He had a very normal childhood, a few more fights than normal kids but they weren't brutal, mostly wrestling. His parents knew from a young age that he was very bright and tried to nurture that side of him. All his life he mostly kept to himself, keeping a close company but still devoting most of his time to his work because it gave him a real thrill.

He was raised a Christian but he lost some of his faith, he still considers himself to be one though He never fell in love nor did he understand it, whenever someone talked to him about it he would just show confusion. He spent his free time traveling to various places of archaeological importance.

He once was accused of theft of an important artifact that cost a hefty amount of money but was proven innocent by his now most loyal friend, Lawyer Laura Evans, they don't talk often and years have passed since they exchanged letters but he values her friendship a great deal.

The German Spring Offensive of 1918 was stopped by U.S. marines at the bloody battle of Belleau Wood. Hal Lancaster and buddy Sam Archer had only been in France for a few months when they were baptised in warfare. The unexpected numbers of Blue-Grays, released from the Russian front, and their new "shock troopers" overran the new arrivals. One bright June morning Hal woke before the bugle call, anticipating coffee and a French bun; but what he got was a stick bomb, slap in the mud between his thighs. Hal remembers saying: "What the fuck is this?" before Sam casually picked it up and lobbed it back at the charging Huns. The stick bomb exploded in mid air a few seconds later instead of removing Hal's balls. "Sam," he said slowly, "I owe you my life, man."

I thought he'd be terminally ill, due to gas poisoning, which would make him reckless and paranoid; wealthy too, so that he could afford an arsenal in his basement...

Hal Lancaster is fortunate to have wealthy parents and a loving kid sister, Mary. A dose of mustard gas has left him terminally ill and paranoid; doctors tell him he has a few years left, although he is able he cannot run for more than a few yards. He lives in a ground floor flat which has a basement housing Hal's collection of weapons and dynamite--he plans to exit with a few fireworks. He is not a recluse exactly but finds little reason to go out.
