Alanis heads in, looking around for any books or items of interest, perhaps journals or other items that may have been left behind. he also searches the walls and floors for secret doors.

There was enough dust to see tracks until the party started checking for traps and everything in the hallway the dust got moved around enough you wouldn't be able to tell who's tracks they were. In this room there is enough dust that you can see that nobody has been in this room for quite some time.

Hi everyone,
It's been quiet for 36 hours. :)
Is it safe to say that we should methodically check the hall with the demon statue in it, and every door off that hallway, for traps. Then, one at a time, we break down or open each door in turn and then check each room for traps, and then search each room in turn? At least until we find something unexpected?

Thoughts?
Thanks! :)

Respectfully,

Dungeon Master:

Fine with me Inferno though let us examine the Study first i guess, if there are old books, look through them, look behind book cases, desk, under tables etc....

pyro is the dungeon master now? :lol: :lol:

Alanis would pick the study as well, perhaps finding an journal of some type to give more information as to what is going on here.

Eh I guess so. Pyro is DM I get to play Theodore now? :D Yes it is PbP for one thing and I do try to allow every player time to post there is no rush for posting on the weekends. Since there are one or more players that have no internet access or are in a huge time difference from most of us as well as work schedules on the weekends for those that have to I don't require posting on the weekend. Search anything something I don't have something to attack you all every moment. But I can change that if need be. :twisted:

Gandrel helps searching the study - if there's a desk he'll check any drawers or doors for traps. If not he'll look at the book cases.

There is a table dusty and quite possibly not used in ages. There is a desk with a dusty half melted candle atop it and a human skull next to the candle. The desk appears to be locked. In the bookcases are many old books. Here are all the books found in the bookshelf:
  • Bigby's Guide to the Constellations - detailed maps of the stars at various times of the year, and how the stars relate to the various deities.
    Stories from a Hag Covey by the Archdruid Fervir Greycloak
    The Dangers of Artifacts and Relics by a historical cabal of great wizards
    Marks of the Great Wizards (a discussion of wizard marks of historical figures)
    The Magic of Cooking by Altus Brown
    Memoirs of a Mage
    The Black Book, A Primer on Necromancy
    Three Hearts and One Eye, A Practical Guide to Collecting and Safekeeping Spell Components
    The Book of Brom, Magic and Art through the Ages
    Under the Stairs, A Guide to Fey
    The Last Fireball, A history of mage dueling through the ages
    Dead Sexy: Putting the "Romance" back into Necromancer
    The Naughty Alienist and the Surprisingly Turgid Tentacle
    The Peeping Tom's Guide to Divination
    How To Make Friends And Influence People Without Taking Away Their Free Will Via Enchantment
    Self-Betterment Through Polymorph Effects
    How To Use A Sword Vol. 1: "Where To Put The Pointy End"
    Practical Alchemy: a formulary book
    Paranormal Primer: a book describing and classifying various kinds of Undead and Evil Outsiders
    Mysteris des Würmys: a foreign language text regarding the legend of a subterranean serpent of great size
    Encyclopædia Britannica volume (obscured): a damaged book in a strange dialect of Common, containing articles about things that do not exist- likely an attempt at fiction by some madman.
    Flick and Twist: a Compendium of Known Wands and Techniques of Use by Bip Boppity.
    A Herbalist's Primer by Dethrus the Sage.
    Fifty Shades of Grey: a treatise on Ethics and Spell Use by the enchantress Selestra the Black.
    Lives of the Ancient Nobles by Neptarch
    Covens and Caverns: Leaving Civilization Behind by Adybus Notchward;
    Reversing Erosion Through Falconry by Oedipus Cheene;
    The Mixed-Crop Orchard: Resizing Your Quincunx by Ozer Hillemun;
    Elementary Defensive Fortifications by Mineholt Schaffle, Esq.

Alanis attempts to open the locked desk, pulling at it before cursing. He stands up to his full height and points his finger at the desk drawer, "I said open!" a flare of magic later and the lock clicks. Alanis gives it a happy smile and goes to open it again.

Dune examines the books, looking for something that might improve his spellcasting.

I wish I had a bag of holding to carry all of these...he muses.

Incidentally anyone that was in War is Hell might recognize the book titles. I added a few titles of my own ;)
Alanis knock spell works the desk clicks open. The desk looks like this once you open the large master "door". This is about as close to what the desk looks like minus the large draws under the master door.

Inside the desk are a dried up ink well and a few quills. cobwebs, dust and some really old spell ingredients as well as what looks to be a personal spell travel size spellbook or perhaps a personal journal of sorts.

Eirik the Just:
Love the book titles! :lol:

The innocent young paladin was rendered speechless by the library of evil forbidden knowledge. He examined the shelves closely.

Are there gaps on the bookshelf, or is the shelf packed tight? Just wondering if the wizard that owned this office abandoned it in a hurry, or had time to pack up his favorite books.
Are any of the tomes less dusty than the others?
Detect for the classic secret door in the book shelf? Secret door: [1d6] = 2
Thanks.

Try as he might Eirik does not locate a secret door on the bookshelf the shelf is packed fairly tight with the books but they are all equally dusty and cobwebbed.

Gandrel searches for traps he is unsure about the smaller drawers to the left and removes a poison dart trap from the larger middle drawers and finds none on the smaller draws to the right on the inside of the desk. I rolled 2 checks for you.
