The Recreation Room (OOC)
The Recreation Room (OOC)
The Rec Room. Come here to unwind and enjoy an old Earth scotch or a Saurian brandy. Play a game of tridimensional chess, or engage in a heated debate over the nature of the Prime Directive and whether Romulans actually devour their elderly.

Re: The Recreation Room (OOC)
Good point. I like the idea of keeping it old school, so let's use the Saladin-class blueprints from the LCARS database for the Janus. Same basic design, but with an extra nacelle, and probably 33% smaller in size.rredmond wrote:I didn't specifically state, but Gareb does hustle over to the turbolift and gets down to Engineering.
Are there schematics, or a map or something of the ship? I don't mean to be an old grog, but I'd like something to wrap my head around how we're moving about.
Thanks!
For reference, here's the weaponry readout (I'm making this up, since the Technical Manual only covers Class VI-X ships, and nothing before the movies ever mentions anything about the older Class I-V ships):
- 2 phaser banks, one covering fore-port-aft, and the other covering fore-starboard-aft
- 1 photon torpedo bay, which can arm a single torpedo at a time
- Bridge
- Torpedo bay, telescopes, cryo-storage and consumables, main computer access
- Phaser banks, auditorium & briefing rooms, science labs
- Officer quarters
- Crew quarters
- Science labs, machine shops, engineering (secondary), brig, transporter room 1
- Engineering (main), medical rooms & labs, recreation, transporter room 3
- Crew quarters, spare cargo
- Cargo stores, transporter room 2 (cargo)
- Sensor arrays
I'll get all of this put into the ship roster in the near future.

Whenever I'm read these posts, in my head I hear the appropriate sound effects.max_vale wrote:LCDR Dale Collins, human Helmsman
"Magnify, aye"; Collins responds as he presses the buttons to magnify the view screen in response to his Captain's order.
Re: The Recreation Room (OOC)

Me too.....I heard the turbolift (or whatever they call the Elevators in Star Trek) sound a minute ago when the Ensign left the bridge!

My favorite places to get stuff to trick out my phone:

I laugh when the computer voice goes off saying "WORKING" when I forget to mute my phone in meetings.

This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Re: The Recreation Room (OOC)
I love those sites! Now I have half a mind to link to the mp3's whenever the appropriate sounds come up (but in green links of course, in case someone's reading the post at work).

Re: The Recreation Room (OOC)
Greetings, officers.
I've set up a private subforum for each player, so I don't have to clutter everyone's inboxes with game-related PMs every time they discover some private information or adventure off somewhere where the other characters shouldn't really know what's going on, in true TOS fashion (cf., for example, The Cage or Galileo Seven).

Phew. Ok. I'm glad that was you. I feared I used my Mod powers and broke something!

Those embedded sound effects are a nice touch!
Re: The Recreation Room (OOC)
Thanks! I like using all sorts of media if I can, it's one of the tings that internet games do well.
Happy egg day, everyone!

Hah! I like this secret forum stuff. Pressing the wallcom and saying my message, and then seeing it relayed on the bridge thread... pretty darn cool.

Re: The Recreation Room (OOC)
Yeah, I think it's pretty neat. I played in a couple of games with dmw71 and he used the private threads to great effect, so I thought I'd try it here and see how it worked out.
I'm still experimenting with when it's best to use them. After all, part of the encouragement for writing up really good posts is that everyone in the game gets to read it, so you don't want everything to be private just because it can be. I'll get the hang of it by the end of the adventure, I'm sure.

Re: The Recreation Room (OOC)
I took some time off yesterday to do a bit of modelling on my Gamescience Star Trek miniatures. It's my first time trying decal transfers, but so far I'm pretty happy with the result. I've got most of the transfers onto the USS Constitution, a Romulan warbird and and D7 with Romulan markings.
The only mishap so far has been on the USS Constitution's registration number, but I've got enough extra transfers I can try again.
I picked up the models from a guy in Canada who sells the original 1970s Gamescience miniatures at really good prices, if you ever get the hankering from some old school Star Trek miniature gaming: ProtoWarfare. He sells the 80s FASA miniatures, too, if you also go for the TMP-era stuff. His eBay shop has all sorts of sci-fi stuff.

Re: The Recreation Room (OOC)
That's a nice collection.
Re: The Recreation Room (OOC)
Thanks. I'm hoping to build on it soon. I have an unpainted fleet of about 6-7 Gorn ships from Star Fleet Battles that I picked up for a couple of bucks at a game store that was closing years ago, so those will be next, and hopefully I'll add in a couple of warbirds and a Klingon battlecruiser to go head-to-head with the Federation Dreadnought.
So far at my wargame club we've played a game each of FASA Trek and A Call to Arms Starfleet, both of which went really well. The FASA game ended in a stalemate between the Federation and Klingons, but in the ACTASF game the Federation got solidly trounced by the Romulans. The underpowered Romulans were just supposed to warp into the sector, scan the Federation planet and then get at least one ship off the table with the information: instead, they just blew our fleet to smithereens and scanned the planet at their leisure once we were all thoroughly dead.
The lesson learned is never to turn your back on a ship equipped with a cloaking device and plasma weapon.

Thanks.
I hope to get up to speed tonight or tomorrow.
In preparation, I'm learning some fascinating stuff on the difference between Edoans, Edosians and Triexians!
Best,
Inferno

Re: The Recreation Room (OOC)
Heh, I found out that Andoran is a Pathfinder thing (shudder...
), totally different from Andorians from Star Trek.
