Specifically, the campaign is set in Westeros, ca. 431*. As shown on the timeline below, this is approximately 400 years prior to Aegon’s crossing, and 700 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones.

The Seven Kingdoms are in their adolescence, though, interestingly enough, their borders and relative strength at this time is roughly equivalent to their status at the beginning of Game of Thrones. They are, however, not unified whatsoever by a common monarch, and currently engaged in the expected rivalries, deception, and all-out war. As the game is set entirely in points North of Winterfell (with the majority of the action North of the Wall), the particular political machinations of the time are of little consequence, except for character backgrounds and to set the stage for the game. The characters face threats much more dire and terrifying than the petty squabbles of man could conceive.
Also important: Valyeria is at the height of its power in Essos. The world sings with its magic and trembles at the sound of its dragons’ roar. Most in-game, non-unique magic items derive from Valyeria. The Doom is roughly 300 years away.
Also note that I am going to change the modules enough where familiarity with them does NOT disqualify the players. Though, of course, do not read them again until you are finished with the game.
From a mechanics standpoint, I am going to use the OSRIC rules and aspire to a high post rate. I am a heavy user of DM Fiat and "the rule of cool." I am neither a tyrant nor a pushover. Most players have found my games immersive, challenging, and fun.
