New Game Request

#1 Post by BaltoBruiser »

I would like to set up a new game.

Title: The Halls of Arden Vul
Ruleset: Old School Essential (OSE)/1e with house rules
LFP link: viewtopic.php?t=13619
Private forums: Once recruitment is closed, I would like to add private forums for each player.

Also, is it possible to keep things under wraps until I have an opportunity to get things built out for the players or will everything be "under construction" once it is up?

Thanks,
Bruiser

A new forum -- The Halls of Arden Vul (OSE) -- has been set up and placed at the end of the list of games, just above the 'Scenario Simulator (All the Rules!)' forum. Also, per our PM conversation, I've gone ahead and created a private 'DM Notes' sub-forum, which only you (and site admins) will have access to.

Just reply back in this topic once recruitment has been finalized with a list of the players that will need private sub-forums as well.

Regarding this, the forum is technically live now that it has been set up, but until players are added to it (see below), no one will be able to do anything other than view it.

You have been set as the moderator for your forum, and you should also be able to make 'sticky' posts. To add users to your group so that they can post in your forum, follow the instructions outlined here: How to add players to your campaign.

Please consult the 'How to make and find your campaign ID' if you're unfamiliar with the Unseen Servant dice roller.

Feel free to reply if you have any questions or issues and an admin will be able to assist.

Good luck with your campaign, and have fun!

Thanks,
Dave

If you need any help setting things up BaltoBruiser just let me know. I am not very good with computer stuff but I do know how the forum works pretty well.

I find that letting players in early helps them bounce ideas off of each other and the DM, as well as building the camaraderie in the team. You can have a private forum for DM notes, those things you want to keep with the game but not let anyone else see.

This is true from a player’s perspective.

From a DM perspective, however, this flurry of player activity can create a fair bit of pressure to get the game started, perhaps before you’re ready.

If you have a lot of setup to complete before you’re ready to start, it’s okay to wait a bit before inviting the players, because things do feel like they escalate quickly.

Maybe it depends on style? I tend to use whatever the players share as I do the finishing touches of the first part of the dungeon. Most of my dungeons develop as the players progress.

Or person.

I know, when I get the inspiration to start a new game, I usually haven’t thought it through in much detail. And I’m the type of DM that likes to front load a lot of the work..

Players, in their own excitement, are itching to get started — or, that’s the sense I get.

What I’m learning from this self-reflection is that I really should attempt to be more open to improvisation — just start the game and see where things go.
