Hello!

#1 Post by RiverGreenForest »

Hello!

New to this forum and play by post. I'm fairly new to RPGs. Having played a few games of D&D 3e in my youth. Years later played a bit of D&D 4e, then switched over to Pathfinder 1e.

I'm interested in playing AD&D 2e, hopefully there are games that are newbie friendly. :)

Hey RiverGreenForest! Saw you over on DF, welcome!!
I think there are some 2e games here that might fit the bill.
FYI we do have a policy of approving your first couple of posts. So after the second approval you will be good to go and good to play games and post without delay.
Be well and be welcome!!

This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Thank you Ron,
After reading your recommendation here I went ahead and checked this place out. Looks like a good balance of both 1e and 2e. After discovering pbp and finding DF and now unseenservant my mind is in a constant state of being blown.

"Why didn't I think about pbp back in 2008??" is what I keep telling myself.

You’ll enjoy it here! GreyWolf usually has a pretty good handle on what 2e games are running here. He’s one of three or four DMs running 2e games. Most of the DMs don’t care if you Private Message them asking about game openings. You might want to look at the games list, in the forum below this one, and see if anything piques your interest. There’s a chance they are full, but doesn’t hurt to ask!
Good luck.

IIRC you once had a 2e “always recruiting” game. I know we have a bunch of 2e games on here. :)

Thank you Ogre Mage!

I would love to play 1E, just need to find a 1E PHB that doesn't look like it's been sitting in a pool of water and costing $60+. I'm not a big fan of pdf files but it may be the only way for 1E unless someone is making reprints with a different name (i.e. Cards Against Humanity - Crabs Adjust Humidity).

I'll be happy to jump in any game as long as your okay with my lack of experience. It's been several years since I played any table top rpg. :)

Here are the RPG books I currently possess:

AD&D 2E - Player's Handbook

D&D 4E - Several books including PHB 1 & 2

Pathfinder 1E - CRB, Advanced Race Guide, Advanced Player's Guide

D&D 5E - I should be receiving this rulebook today. I heard it's pretty good for newcomers or people coming back.

I'm so out of the RPG game. I've been spending the last several years' wargaming playing Warhammer Fantasy (6th & 8th edition), Kings of War, Warhammer Age of Sigmar, and Warhammer 40k.

It depends on the individual game of course, but most DM's are good about taking players without any experience with the rules. I am also not sure you really need the rules for anything other than PC generation. The DM and fellow players can always let you know what you need to roll. I haven't done it with 1e since I have all the books but I have with other systems until I could get the rules.

Ah ok, that's nice to know. I always get that weird feeling when playing a game without knowing the rules. Like driving a car with your eyes closed, just feels weird.

One of the greatest things about the format and pacing of PbP is that you can definitely learn as you go.
The absolute greatest thing about the supportiveness and experience of the Unseen Servant denizens is that this is the best place to learn as you go.
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
