Tella - Elf Mage
Nah, you fine. Smell is not so good but you look fine. She says handing over her water skin: Yes, no lips sounds like a good idea.
Let's get out of here before Sir Ugly comes over here. I am open to any direction.

Garl takes a quick moment to listen at the door in the room. He hears nothing. However, the impatient calls of his companions move him away quicker than he wanted. You leave the room as the horrible thing just starts entering the room, its tentacles twisting around the corners of the doorway with hesitant experimental groping.
You head somewhat south down a twisting path, and come to another door before the stairs, again no sounds come through to Garl, and he had longer to listen. The rear guard doesn't see the thing, it must be staying in the debris room for now, and stopped following you.
You move up to the stairs area. There is a group of stairs heading up, but they don't seem too long. There are also stairs leading down, but it is hard to see how far they go, the way is dark and the door is only slightly ajar.
There is one more door in front of you, it is near the stairs. You listen at that door, but again, hear nothing through the thick stone!

Well nothing to be done about it now. Garl will check for traps and the Garl suggests you head up the stairs first. Knowing another way in and out could be very useful.
Re: 10- UnderMountain-Trip 6-The New Crew
Garl checks the first few steps for traps they appear to be inert stone, nothing interesting so far.
Does anybody second Garl? Try up the stairs first?

Roseheart and shrugs and will follow up the stairs,"Anyway we go is as good as any to try and find the fat man"
Re: 10- UnderMountain-Trip 6-The New Crew
Isabella is feeling much better since she threw up (no more penalties).
Meanwhile, Garl had turned back to the company for only a moment to discuss moving up the stairs, and then when you shine your lantern up the stairway, you see wisps of mist falling down the stairs, in a slow billowing cloud, heavier than the air. At the top of the stairs is a stoic elf, standing with long bow, and sword, fully armored with plate mail. His glowing eyes fade back into the smoke, and then that is all you can see, the white grey of mists.
The mist is coming closer to your party, and you feel a chill wind coming with it.

Re: 10- UnderMountain-Trip 6-The New Crew
Roseheart follows suit. Would he have an idea of what type of magic that could be if any?
Re: 10- UnderMountain-Trip 6-The New Crew
Lots of wizards can call up a basic mist, the really powerful can call a poisonous mist, but it us usually black or green, but not always....
Re: 10- UnderMountain-Trip 6-The New Crew
Tantos Vek, failed paladin:
Vek joins the others in backing up, to avoid the potentially venomous vapours.
Then he looks below the ethereal tendrils and tries to calculate their path.
If they are falling through the air, when they reach our level does it seem they'll continue to flow down the stairs that lead downward, or will they spill out onto our level? Vek wants to go wherever the mists won't flow, if that's clear. Thanks.

You guys back up quickly, moving back into the hallway, and find that the mist is dispersing ineffectually as it reaches the end of the stairs. A minute or so goes by and thee mist begins to recede back up the stairs.
Re: 10- UnderMountain-Trip 6-The New Crew
Garl will listen intently, did (does) the Elf make any sound? If not he will try to scout up that way. Who knows, might be an illusion.

Feeling better, Isabella says, "If you think this is a magical illusion or something, I could try and dispel it."
Winter is coming...
Re: 10- UnderMountain-Trip 6-The New Crew
Now that the mist is receding you guys move back into the space between the two flights of stairs. Shining your lights up the flight of stairs, you note that the elf is gone. The mist still covers the top portion of the stairs, they only go perhaps 20 feet up.
What do you think, head up there, or dispel magic, or something else?

Re: 10- UnderMountain-Trip 6-The New Crew
Garl will attempt to move silently up the stair.
Re: 10- UnderMountain-Trip 6-The New Crew
Garl slips up the steps silently, nearing the mist with each step. Just as he reaches the top of the stairs, one of the steps, whips up quickly, it was some kind of spring loaded tripping trap!
*Garl, dex check to avoid plummeting back down the steps!*
Seconds after this trap goes off, you catch another glimpse of the elf, pacing in the mists nearing your side of the upper landing once more. The grey mists begin to billow out once more, filling the entire stairwell.

Roll to Save [1d20] = 6
You knew this was a trap, and so too are you thinks Garl. He will call out "That was a dirty trick" only loud enough to be heard by the Elf and head back down the stairs.

Tella- definitely, the stairs are only perhaps 20 ft away at the upper landing. You don't know how long that landing is, but the elf is only a few feet back from the top of the stairs.

Roseheart considers, "He hasn't DIRECTLY attacked us as we can tell. Vek, perhaps he has information on the fat man he'd care to share or sell?"
