Re: Into the Lair

Etruna moves up behind the others with the torch. As the light begins to push into the opening it can be seen there is a boat. Beside the boat the swampman seems to have taken a moment to try to pull it out into the water with no success, the size and weight of it to great for his lone strength. As Rondar closes the swampman responds by flinging himself out into the water-filled chamber beyond. Creating quite a splash with his flailing attempt at swimming.

The boat looks like it would seat atleast ten people and it has two paddles. It is pushed up onto the muddy passage way and beyond is a dark cavern with an underground lake of unknown size filling it.

Rondar, the swampman is not very far away and you might be able to catch him if you go into the water after him.

Unfortunately the torches have spoiled the use of infravision and it would take one round to acclimate after moving atleast 60' away from the torch. Those blasted humans!

Metal armor and water... NG!

Nuonne skids to a halt, puts a hand on the boat to ensure it doesn't slip into the water and tries to keep an eye on swampy.
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

We will say you didn't shoot for fear of hitting Rondar.

The boat feels firmly in place. You think it would take atleast two of you to push it into the water.

Rondar starts to wade into the water and is immediately slowed by the deep muddy bottom. Undeterred you begin to half swim half walk into the water. Your dagger in hand slows your swimming somewhat and prevents you from reaching the fear driven swampman(to justify the failed attack roll) who is keeping about ten feet ahead of you.

As Rondar reaches where the lake opens up into unknown dimensions there is a large splash by the swampman but obviously wasn't made by him. Then a scream of terrible pain and another huge splash. This process of scream and splash repeats itself several times as the swampman has been been grabbed by some unknown scaly reptilian creature with a powerful maw.

As Viscata escorts Kraden down the passage you two hear the splashing and blood curdling screams of the swampman.

Those standing by the boat can just barely see at the edge of the torchlight the death throes of the swampman and the creature that has him.

As the party chases the swampman deeper into the complex, Kraden crawls over to where Nuonne dropped the longbow and arrow, wishing he could be farther up ahead with his compatriots. He tries to crawl after them as best he can.
Caspur wrote:Not seeing any other enemies Viscata will go back and help Kraden join the others.
Kraden graciously accepts the warrior maiden's help, being both surprised and reassured by her strength and determination."Thank you, Viscata. I had hoped to not be such a burden to you and the others. If the situation was reversed, I would do the same..."
Solinor wrote:As Viscata escorts Kraden down the passage you two hear the splashing and blood curdling screams of the swampman.
Kraden instantly stiffens at the screams, not sure if it is their quarry or one of his friends. He tries to limp faster with Viscata's help. "How I wish I could still help! Is there no end to evil in this wretched place?"

Nuonne strains to see where Rondar is in all the chaos of whatever's got the swampmen.

"Are there any large rocks around," he says to those near, "that we can use to cause a distraction so that Rondar makes it back to shore safely?"

Missiles fly from those on the shore but to unknown effect. The writhing swirl of water continues until a drenched Rondar, who is panting heavily reaches the shore. It doesn't appear Rondar is being pursued by those watching from the shore. It then becomes quiet except for the small waves that echo the memory of the swampmans demise.

Everyone is now by the boat or close by the opening to 15a?
What do you want to do now?

Etruna replies, "I am unharmed, but still weakened from our encounter with the troglodyte. I say we find a room to rest up and prepare new magic for the challenges that lie before us."
