Moving to the door, the bugbear will check to make sure it is not trapped. If he is confident there are no traps, he will ready his bow and stand beside the door, trying to limit his exposure once the door is opened. Gesturing at the door, he tells Unari, Open door. I shoot anything I see, then you move in for kill. Good plan?
Investigation: [1d20+4]=9+4=13
After checking for traps, he will use his cunning action to hide.
Stealth: [1d20+9]=8+9=17
Initiative: [1d20+3]=19+3=22
He'll ready an action, to fire an arrow at the first creature that appears hostile when the door opens. If multiple creatures are there, he'll target whatever seems strongest.
Shortbow: [1d20+6]=15+6=21; Damage: [1d6+3]=6+3=9; Sneak Attack: [3d6]=12
Advantage against any enemy that hasn't acted yet in combat, and a crit if surprised, so I'll roll the attack again to include all the potential variables, removing the Dex bonus to damage, which wouldn't apply on a crit.
Shortbow: [1d20+6]=19+6=25; Damage: [1d6]=5; Sneak Attack: [3d6]=6

Knocking her bow, Nella waits, covering the door that Unari and Gruthuuk are not going through. She positions herself to guard the casters.

Xanlanan waits patiently while the group discusses the door. He idly uses a fingernail to chip away at some of the mortar on a nearby wall to see if he can glean what the ratio of stone and sand appears to be.

Lika does his best to stay out of the way of the people with pointy things. She keeps the lantern pointed down the hall at the far south door, hoping to illuminate the area for Nella.

Noticing Xanlanan, he whispers. "What do you think? Man-made or magic?"

Xanlanan peering at the stone doesn't immediately register the question. "Umm..? oh! Well, if you notice here...," he then points to a different section of the wall, "and here. You can clearly see the variability in consistency of the mortar applied so it must clearly be man-made." He look back at Lika, nods, and continues his idle examination.

Time to start repeating them all over again. :(

All the footer updates were made in my last post and the group has already moved to the door. Working on this now.

At Nella's urging, Gruuthuk inspects the door to make sure it isn't trapped. It doesn't appear to be. There is minimal pooling where the dried trail of bloody footprints disappears under the base of the door, suggesting the goblins that fled this way didn't stop and linger long enough to disarm any trap and simply passed through.

The bugbear readies his bow and stands to the side of the door, gesturing at the closed portal. "Open door. I shoot anything I see, then you move in for kill. Good plan?" he suggests to Unari, who nods her agreement.


Then grips and turns the handle, pulling the door open.

Nothing happens.


On the opposite side of the door, an area in the shape of a backward "L" is revealed, with another door in the southern wall of the leg of the "L."

The floor is dotted with splotches of old, dried-up blood reflecting the fact that many conflicts have taken place in this area over the years.

A collection of rough bedrolls made of hide or fur of some kind are tossed haphazardly against the outer wall.

A small pot rests on the floor in the corner of the "L" and the walls on either side of this pot are decorated with streaks of brown in various lengths.

The area smells strongly of feces.

The room appears to simply be a pass-through point that could be easily defensible, but isn't.

Door
The two scouts -- Unari and Gruuthuk -- stealth to the opposite side of the room and peer around the bend in the L-shaped room. In the corner, beyond the sleeping bags, rests a chamber pot with a stench so strong, even the bugbear takes notice.

The pair confirm the absence of a threat around the turn and confirm it is just a continuation of the room with another door in the far wall, continuing to head in the current direction of travel.



Back at the entrance, Nella continues to cover the main hallway while Lika and Xanlanan slip into the area of stench. "Now, LIka, that is indeed man-made! WHEW!" the sorcerer quips as the funk becomes even stronger given their close proximity. The birdman carefully prods through the sleeping bags and, aside from disrupting some normal-sized insects and uncovering bits of discarded food, reveals nothing of interest.

The two scouts -- Unari and Gruuthuk -- continue the coordinate the group's progress. "You handle the door and I will go through." the halfling whispers to the much taller bugbear, who nods affirmatively.

Deeming the door to be safe, the rogue slowly pulls the door open revealing the area beyond.

The ranger peers inside and observes a roughly 30 foot-by-40 foot rectangular area with ceilings ranging at least twenty feet high.

The only obvious features in the room are a familiar wooden door on the left wall and two floor-to-ceiling pillars.
