Mungo runs to take a place in the front line, oil flask in one hand and forge hammer in the other. Should we burn them again? To avoid anyone else getting slimed?
If so, somebody get a torch lit!
He can't think of a good way to use the fire from his head lamp as an igniter.

Finver rallies his fellows with a grunt and heavy swing of his war hammer at the creature ?6 opposite him.
Finver attacks ?6 in melee with two handed war hammer [1d20+2]=16+2=18 doing [1d6+2]=3+2=5 of bludgeoning damage

He looks to his side with slight embarrassment, "Sorry ta spoil yer frock, Lady Drapaudi! Not ta worry, though, tha splatter didn't seem ta hurt me much!"

Caveman Dwelling near the Starfall, Island of Xygax the Wizard, Land of One Thousand Towers
Night. Friday, April 13th, 912 CY

Image

Misshapen living skeletons enveloped in revolting slime are hewn and hammered by the iron wrath of Ko-Nan and Finver, and do not fall!

Draupadi's blessed mace and Fiefo's cursed fork are thwarted by the malformed gelatinous horrors!

Connak fires two arrows into the vile horde's rear ranks, grazing one shambling atrocity! (?13) The catman archer has but two arrows left in his quiver!

Mungo advances as Maskelyn retreats!

A gooey carcass tries to smash Finver with preternatural strength, and the dwarf nearly evades the attack entirely! (only 1hp damage)

Connak lets fly his last two arrows, hoping against hope that the one that hits is lucky enough to drop one of the hideous slime creatures. Stowing his now useless short bow, he briefly dithers between his saber and his sling. Noting the minimal effect his arrows have had, he draws his saber and prepares to fight to the bitter end.

"All that slime makes ya pretty clumsy!" Finver scoffs and heaves his war hammer back in the opposite direction to stand his ground against the grotesque creature.

Finver attacks ?6 in melee with two handed war hammer [1d20+2]=17+2=19 doing [1d6+2]=6+2=8 of bludgeoning damage

Finver sends another shower of splattering slime into the air with his war hammer!

Caveman Dwelling near the Starfall, Island of Xygax the Wizard, Land of One Thousand Towers
Night. Friday, April 13th, 912 CY

Image

By blade and by bludgeon, Fiefo, Finver, Ko-Nan and Mungo finish the last three writhing, malformed things of slime and bone! (?6, ?9, ?5) Their strange, amoeboid forms lose all cohesion and they splatter to the rocky ground!

Moments earlier, Connak emptied his quiver, firing its last two arrows into the rear ranks of skeletal blob-men. One oozing monster was grazed. (?13)

And Maskelyn the trickster had woven a cunning illusion of sound that drew off those flailing horrors not yet engaged in battle! (?10, ?12, ?13) They shambled up the stairs to the northeast, in search of other intruders.

The battle is ended. The seekers of the fallen star are triumphant, for now!

Then Draupadi notices some slime has attached itself to her flesh.

Has Finver's infestation grown larger?

None know how long Maskelyn's deception will distract the ooze-corpses that lurched away!

Finver cheers with his war hammer raised victoriously over the slimy mess that remains from his enemies. He is interrupted by Draupadi...

Finver scoffs, "Nah! What's ta worry, my lady? Ya smash a few baddies and yer gonna get splatter all over ya!" He raises his own arm in demonstration, "Look, see? I got some a' that goo on my arm too and I seem just fine. You'll be fine too! C'mon let's follow tha path of that shooting star now." (I realize these are an example of "Famous last words" but I'm just testing the validity of my dwarven friend's confidence, which borderlines on arrogance! :D )

Mungo joins Finver in the celebratory victorious celebrations. By Verne and Wells, we did it again! With hardly a scratch!
Image

He stows his flask of oil in his pack, happy not to have to use it and to save it for use for his headlamp. Though he's a little disappointed at not having the chance to light a big, raging, impressive fire. But then the 70 years old moleman's face seems to show concern. It's hard to tell, really, it's a moleman's face after all. Water won't wash that slime off, we know. If we were back at Sleestak land, their would probably be some kind of horrid blind cave fish who would have a taste for it and eat it off. But both unfortunately and fortunately, we're not. He ponders for a moment and shakes his head, the beam of his headlamp illuminating the cave's floor and his two boots. Well, this is all I've got for it.
CLW Finver [1d8]=2
CLW Draupadi [1d8]=8
He looks back and forth at the healees, squinting his eyes behind their thick goggles and the Spectacles of True Seeing, panning the beam to their slime-covered arms, the whites of their eyes, the color of their tongues, their bellies (watching for gas, bloating, irregularity, etc.), etc.
Sorry, just happy to see US back and functioning ag. :)

Fiefo sniffs as he picks up his bow while glancing in the direction of Finver’s upheld arm.

“We could try burning it off…” he says, a little too casually. “Those guys probably started out the same way.” He indicates generally in the direction of the slime heaps.

Ko-Nan steps carefully around the slime. "If fire doesn't work - hack his arm off!" as he hefts his own axe to offer the bitter medicine.

Maskelyn
Uhh, guys- Those things aren't going to stay gone forever. He moves to the steps, and looks West, to try and see what's there.

I had some acheef (which is a delicate and delicious liqueur made from fermented slugs), but regrettably it's all gone. All I have now is Altrusian-Sleestak lake water. He heeds Maskelyn's advice and keeps an eye out for the slime things.
