I actually missed the river on the map and just now realized it after Red's post. Can I add one more action before the next round/turn for Finver?
"River??" Finver asks wide eyed in realization when he overhears Connak, "Fetch some water fer me, please!"

Caveman Dwelling near the Starfall, Island of Xygax the Wizard, Land of One Thousand Towers
Night. Friday, April 13th, 912 CY

Image

The dark alien will of the Void Slime Consciousness tries to overtake Finver's mind!

The dwarf resists its commands to kill Draupadi as she cures him of the insidious infestation! Finver is free of it!

His friends lower their weapons. Connak's sharp eyes spy no movement in the shadows around them.

Ko-Nan gets a torch alight and ventures into the western cave. He discovers steep cliffs to the south that nearly reach the towering roof. To the left of the cliffs, a stairway cut into the rock leads into darkness. Another path leaves this cavern to the north.

Its subterranean river emerges from, and disappears into, the living rock. Stone bowls and waterskins of the lost tribe are at the river's edge.

As Ko-Nan moves closer he realizes that in the night, the subterranean river has transformed, from a rushing torrent of cold, clear water, into a channel of thick slime!

"Fetch some water fer me, please!" yells Finver.

Finver breathes a heavy sigh of relief after realizing he narrowly emerged victorious from an internal struggle with the alien infestation that would have otherwise transformed him into a gruesome horror against his fellows.

He bows repeatedly in gratitude, and kneels uncharacteristically tearful (for a dwarf) and stuttering to find the right words to adequately express himself. "I thank ya all, so much. ...ta Lady Draupadi fer yer cures, ...ta Mungo, Elder Mole-man fer yer prayers, ...ta Maskelyn, fer yer caring help - I love all gnomes but ya have a special place in my heart among them. Ya all showed yer true friends, in yer efforts ta save me, ...when I was almost turned ta slime. I can't decide whose deity ta thank first, ...but I'm grateful to ya all, as their faithful servants."

Finver wipes the tears and chuckles at his own ignominious condition. He rises and composes himself, resuming his gruff dwarven manner, and grasping his war hammer in renewed determination to solve this mystery. "Now, let's find a way ta get up ta tha surface. That's where we'll find this shootin star and maybe even answer some questions about all these slimies."

Following Ko-Nan, Finver assesses their options to move onward. "I'd say we should take that northern exit along tha river," he suggests, pointing north, "up there. Let's see where it leads. I don't think goin further down underground will get us anywhere closer ta where we wanna be."

Maskelyn
Maskelyn sticks close to the group. Yea, let's get outta here- even Gnomes get claustrophobic sometimes.

IF the group does head up the NW tunnel, Maskelyn will stay as far from Slime River as possible.

Ko-Nan spits into the slime that was water a short time ago. He backs away and follows the others.

Assuming the flow of slime runs southbound, Finver leads the party north to explore where the north to the cavern exit leads. He places his finger to his lips, signaling to the rest of the party to proceed in silence.

He steps lightly and cautiously along the east side of the path over the slime river, testing its structural integrity and listening for the telltale sounds of any crumbling rock. If he feels the ground beneath him beginning to collapse, or from a boulder or other deadfall above, he will leap back and try to escape from the falling hazard.

Draupadi

Draupadi also gives the river a wide berth as possible as she follows along.

Caveman Dwelling near the Starfall, Island of Xygax the Wizard, Land of One Thousand Towers
Morning. Saturday, April 14th, 912 CY

Image

Free of the alien Void Slime that invaded their bodies and minds, Finver and Draupadi lead the adventurers northward along the shocking river of slime.

Moving against the direction of its sluggish current, the keen-footed dwarf confirms the path is sound as they enter another vast cavern.

Image

There they find the source of the blighted river. And to the west, stone steps lead lower.

Finver can feel a slope in the cavern floor rising upward toward the northeast. Ko-Nan and Mungo direct their light there and they see the walls, floor and ceilings of the northeastern tunnel are entirely coated in slime! It curves northwest out of sight.

By... By... Mungo is speechless. It really is a river of slime! Well, we of course knew it was a river of slime. But I had thought it might be just a local channel of slime, or maybe a sort of canal of slime. Not a full river of slime with a headwaters source. Headslimes source. I wonder what all of that slime eats?

He thinks but doesn't say, "That's enough slime for an estimated 2,000 to 958,000 Draupadis, Finvers, Connaks, Fiefos, Maskelyns and Mungos." He stares in disbelief and involuntarily mumbles, By Verne and Wells. That's a lot of slime. And there's worse. Gentle catman, ratman, dwarven and human folk:
Note that the stairs away from the slime go down.
His pith helmet lamp and his beady eyes magnified behind his thick goggles and Eyes of True Seeing specs pan all around the cavern, left, right, up and down.

Finver folds his arms in frustration, "Well, I suppose we just don't have a way ta safely go upwards and we got ta go down there," pointing southward to the steps exiting the cavern. He sighs and saunters southward following the wall of the cavern to its exit.

Connak will start to scout the stairs, moving as stealthily as possible, and checking for traps or deadfalls as he moves. He really doesn't want to think about the slime anymore right now...

Maskelyn
Maskelyn says a short prayer. Trickster, I rely on your favor.

Then, he turns to the others. The goddess-lady said that I'm immune to the slime. Unless Bugs decides to prank me really hard....
I'm going to check that tunnel to the North. Will one of you keep an eye on me, in case things go hilariously wrong?

He goes to the edge of the slimed tunnel floor, then takes a short step into it, planting both feet and waiting to see what happens.
