Chapter 3.3: Back to the Caves Valley
Chapter 3.3: Back to the Caves Valley
It was around 6:40pm when the party left the Keep.
Rondel leads the party off the main path & picks up the trail leading northward from the west side of the keep.
When you get to about 900 yards in, about 250 yards into the Borderlands Forest, Gnolls once again come rushing at the party.
The party was alert enough, not to be surprised by this & have the initiative for 2 segments.
There are 5 of them:
Gnoll #1 - battle axe
Gnoll #2 - halberd
Gnoll #3 - battle axe
Gnoll #4 - 2-handed sword
Gnoll #5 - 2-handed sword
It is around 7:12pm when the combat starts.

Re: Chapter 3.3: Back to the Caves Valley
Luna quickly arms his sling with another bullet and will fire at preferably a gnoll with 2-handed sword, or else whichever gnoll is closest.
will post my roll already now, in case I am offline when action starts: Sling to hit: [1d20] = 12, damage with bullet vs L opp: [1d6+1] = 1+1 = 2

Gus
Standard situation, standard response from Gus. Arrows!
: To Hit: [1d20+4] = 14+4 = 18 Damage [1d6] = 1
To Hit: [1d20+4] = 11+4 = 15 Damage [1d6] = 3
Clem
Clem takes a position near his brother and launches a sling bullet at the Gnoll who has Gus' arrows sticking out if it.
To Hit [1d20] = 1 Damage [1d6+1] = 6+1 = 7
Clem's shot requires a check!
[1d100] = 2
I don't know what that means! Did I want high or low?
=======================================
Dungeon Master Response:
Ha! Sling band breaks! 1-10 weapon breaks, 11-50 fumbled 51-100 a wild swing or shot.
I will get an encounter map made hopefully sometime tonight.

Odderick gives the bow another try:
To Hit [1d20] = 5 Damage [1d6] = 2
To Hit [1d20] = 19 Damage [1d6] = 5
Well, I'm guessing one of those hit.

Round 2:
Gnolls have the initiative this round which is spent advancing.
The Gnolls are 3 squares closer than their initial squares on the player encounter map.
This puts Gnoll #1; now left front of Rondoel.
Gnoll #2 is now on the left side of Odderick.
Gnoll #3 is now on the left side of Clem.
Gnoll #4 is 5 feet away on Luna Cee's, right side.
Gnoll #5 is 15 feet away from MS3's right side.

Re: Chapter 3.3: Back to the Caves Valley
For next combat round, Luna will use quarterstaff (instead of sling) against gnoll #4, if such a switch is allowed timewise etc
Question: who 'instructs' a warhorse to engage in combat; will it do so spontaneously ? (as it seemed to happen during previous gnoll encounter). Or is it me who must indicate that Luna's horse will attack/stop attacking a specific target

Re: Chapter 3.3: Back to the Caves Valley
Your War Horse has been specially trained with help from a Druid, known as the Bee Man.
So, yes the horses know special commands for combat & wilderness survival in addition to the usual.
Horse bite (1d6) damage, Trample ([2 hooves] 1d11+1) damage.
So combat is basically: bite/monster counterattack/trample

Luna, to Gnoll #4, in Gnoll Language: "here, grab a taste of some human resources" and bashes Gnoll #4 right in the kisser:
Staff, quarter, to hit: [1d20] = 13, damage: [1d6] = 2
and
If, indeed it is Luna who can command his warhorse to attack Gnoll #4, also does so. Otherwise, Luna hopes the horse will know what to do by itself.

If Luna is still in combat next round, these will then be his actions:
Luna, jovially to Odderick: "Ahup, friend - thanks for trimming some of me old ear fuzz, those parts can be really difficult to reach"
and pitifully shows gnoll #4 some more useless kendo: Staff, quarter, to hit: [1d20] = 8, damage: [1d6] = 3

Re: Chapter 3.3: Back to the Caves Valley
Ok, i think i will start Round 4 here:
At least now you see how the combat goes when broken down into the segments!
it could go 6 more segments in round 3 here, but for ease of understanding & reading,
let us just start fresh with Round 4!
Player Initiative: [1d6] = 3
Gnoll Initiative: [1d6] = 6
Player's have Initiative for 2 segments!
Luna of course missed with his Quarter Staff!
