Lucius plants the butt of his spear in the ground and leans on it, making a show of being at ease.

Zaid translates quickly for the others. He barks back at the hobgoblins. "Intruders? Hardly. Who we are and what we do is our business. We left you to yours back at the plaza. Do not mistake our earlier kindness for weakness. If you have something to trade, information or material, perhaps we'll have something to discuss that is profitable to us both."

Alright everyone, get ready, the Amazons get their weapons out, infantry in front, Phoebe with her oversized crossbow just behind, and Diane in the rear, behind the crossbow women.

Surprised that Zaid can bark as well Damiane says "Yes! Tell them we will not flay their flea ridden hides if they crawl back from where they came from. " while Ludwig prepares his own for a charge carefully, trying to prevent all too aggressive movements for now.

Seeing the party readying their weapons, the hobgoblins grow agitated, and they are holding their spears points toward you, as if ready to attack.

An especially large hobgoblin barks out what sounds like an order to Zaid:
"These are Bitten Ear lands. You owe tribute! Pay, and move on!"

"Is the big guy their leader? Does he threaten us? I could easily pluck him out from behind the spears and shatter his bones..." says Damiane glaring at the loudest and largest hobgoblin.

At the sight of the hobgoblin spears being pointed at us, Lucius' spear comes up into his hands, readied for an attack.

Zaid translates. He responds to the leader, "Bitten Ear land? Perhaps it is though I have not heard it so. Regardless, any tribute from us will be hard-fought. As you can see, we are prepared to fight if a fight is what you want. How many warrior lives is the Bitter Ear tribe prepared to spend to get it? I say, again, if you have commerce, we may speak as friends but do not think we will cower from threats."

Erico Caravellino {Human Thief Lvl: 6 HP: 15/15 AC 8}:

Erico says,
"Eh, would you settle on joining us for a couple beers & the chance to meet women at a nearby tavern instead?"

"Zaid, you don't exactly have to translate that to them."

The hobgoblin leader snorts, and looks over your party, then raises a hand to his fellows, who relax a bit, though stay on guard. He barks and growls some more:
"We have goods. What do you want, fish? Beer? Oil? We have silver jewelry for your woman. What can you trade? Horse? Weapons? What else?"

Per the OOC post, let's assume Zaid translates all the requests and the answers.

I'm also interested in the jewelry. And I'm okay at negotiations and bargaining as well. I bet we could get a good price. But the issue is all I have are coins. And magic if they need a little healing.

The leader chuffs at the other hobgoblins, and they move forward toward the group, apparently approaching the horses and the gear. Their demeanor isn't overtly threatening, but they are advancing fairly aggressively toward your stuff as if they might touch it or take it. If you want to stop them, you'd need to be fairly assertive.

The leader says "We have lots of lamp oil... Salt, too, for preserving fish." He doesn't seem to react to talk of coins, and he hasn't pulled out any silver, yet.

Erico Caravellino {Human Thief Lvl: 6 HP: 15/15 AC 8}:

To the Hobgoblin leader:
"I could always use more lamp oil, what is your price?"

Lucius will interpose himself and his spear point between the nearest hobgoblin and the horses. Tell them to stay back, or there might be an accident.

Pyro, just in case, your character would know that lamp oil is not the same as military oil... It burns to produce light, but won't do damage

The hobgoblins near Lucius pause, grunting with irritation. The others have advanced until they're up pretty close to other members of the party, so you can smell their animalistic funk. They pause when it's clear you don't want them touching your stuff.

The leader says "We don't want coins, we want trade. You have shelters? Tools? Let us see..."
