OOG Chatter
Re: OOG Chatter
Fair. I don't have a ton of experience with roleplaying in general (only started about 5.5 years ago!). In my very limited experience, FTF with a small fun group has been great for engaging in silly shenanigans (Silver Age Superhero kind of absurdities). I struggle to engage in any sort of nuance though. My brain just sort of shuts down when I need to respond fairly quickly and with spoken words, so my characters and games tend to be much less fleshed out than PbP.
Someday I want to run a Fate game PbP. I struggled to run it effectively face to face, but I feel like I could have a much better time doing success-at-a-cost and compels and the like in PbP. I could probably steal Eris' approach to Luck tokens for spending Fate tokens too.

Speaking of which, if you are ever looking for more for your Traveller game, I'm game. As long as you don't throw an axe wielding Valkyrie at me!Tiglath wrote: ↑Wed May 14, 2025 9:05 pm I'm under no illusions! In my Traveller Merc campaign (here on US!) I once (foolishly) left an entirely empty folder in the game topics marked Private Notes because it was missing a Player's name (to make it for instance Tiglath's Private Notes). That folder had multi hundred hits...

I don't know that there is any handling that one without losing hands.
Re: OOG Chatter
I played FTF Fate once in a 1910s pulp setting. My PC was a descendant of Louis L'Amour's Sackett clan, another was from HPL's Whateley family, and yet another was Col. Teddy Roosevelt himself. If you fancy running FATE here on US, you might want to drop ToniXX a line first in viewforum.php?f=3 to code up FATE Dice. It might already be on their to-do list!
Re: OOG Chatter
She does need special handling (quite possibly involving chainmail gauntlets).

Here's a link to the most recent post in my game so please feel free to have a look around.

As you'll see this game also contains absolutely no Swordies whatsoever...

We are full at the moment but (quite possibly to my painfully slow posting rate) a player has drifted off so when we conclude this chapter there may be an opportunity to join.

While not Tiglath’s most excellent game, I will be starting a new campaign running the upcoming Singularity Kickstarter at the beginning of next month and it might have an opening or two, depending on how many players I’ve already invited accept.Tiglath wrote: ↑Thu May 15, 2025 9:28 pmShe does need special handling (quite possibly involving chainmail gauntlets).![]()

Singularity Act One: Sylean Dream
The Travellers are invited to crew the Ventura Fortuna, the most elegant liner in the Core. They play host to the sector’s rich and famous, a clientele who demand the very best in amenities and service. As they cruise the routes of the Core, the Travellers make contacts and allies, and engage in challenging adventures, which reveal new aspects of the sector. They will also solve the mysteries of the ship itself, including the true identity of their mysterious benefactor.

Fate has been run on here before. I played in a game and I have played it FTF too. For Fate I prefer FTF. It isn't my favorite system but it isn't something I hate either. Would play it again.
I play in a weekly FTF game (mostly Hyperborea rpg recently). It has been ongoing since the late 80s so we must be doing something right. FTF is not just the game though, at least for us it is also about spending time with friends. PBP is also fun and can allow you to think through things or not. I find for me that not spending time thinking it through works better for me. If I spend to much time thinking about my next action I overthink it and it just doesn't seem to flow for me. I love both forms equally, they just scratch different itches.

Fate an outgrowth of FUDGE (Freeform Universal Do-it-yourself Gaming Engine) by Steffan O'Sullivan. Personally, I prefer FUDGE to Fate...actually of SOS's systems I prefer SLUG (Simple Laid-back Universal Game).Rex wrote: ↑Thu May 15, 2025 11:43 pm Fate has been run on here before. A game set in the early 1850's shortly after an attempted invasion by a small fleet of ships crewed by Martians was defeated. Defeated mostly by the common cold for which they had no immunity at all. Exploring these Martian ships British, Prussian and American Natural Philosophers (ie. scientists) discovered knowledge far beyond anything man had discovered ere now!
The new devices they found amazed them. A device that allowed gravity to be manipulated, such that a vessel could maintain a normal (actually half normal) gravity and thus its atmosphere even while in the void of space or deep under water. A device that grabbed hold of the threads of the very fabric of space (the aether), a screw that could propel a vessel through space at unfathomable speeds. Steam Engines that were powered by strange rocks that produced continuous heat but were not consumed! A device that was a magnification of Babbage's Machine with a Mill that was able to calculate orbital trajectories quickly and precisely all from simple go from here to there instructions. All were marvels that excited and perplexed the Academy of the Natural, Archaeological, Geographic, and Scientific Society (NAGS)!
And then there were the maps! Maps that showed habitable lands on Mars and Venus. They showed cities on those planets, and even an outpost located inside the bowels of Earth's very own moon.
Oh my! The men and, yes even women, of the NAGS could hardly wait to expand their explorations into the whole of the Solar System. Of course, the leading governments of Earth were also interested in these developments, for if nothing else, the need to defend against further invasion attempts and, yes, new lands to conquer and colonize!

Argh! You see, I've thought about this for a very long time. It is so tempting to try to mash this up!!!

Re: OOG Chatter
Sounds like a fun time. I would join if you decide to run it on here.
Re: OOG Chatter
Rough later half of the day; I aspirated a tiny bit of nuts and had lots of trouble. I'll be ok but will probably post later in the day.
Re: OOG Chatter
Sorry to hear that, I hope you are feeling better soon helvorn.
Re: OOG Chatter
Agreed, glad you are doing better.
Re: OOG Chatter
Choking and suffocation are both terrifying to me. Shortly after I began using a CPAP machine, I aspirated a morsel of bacon at a restaurant. I still blame that episode on my imagined side effect of the CPAP
Re: OOG Chatter
In my condition aspiration can end up in a one way trip to a tracheotomy!
