I'm heading to the Vet's Office in a minute. We're likely, about to lose a family pet, he's old and in bad shape. This is going hurt.

I'm sorry to hear about your pet. Our golden just went blind but fortunately she is still otherwise healthy.

Re: OOG Chatter
Paul was a very good orange cat who was with the family for over 20 years. He arrived on the doorstep as a young stray and insisted on coming in...we couldn't say no, and once in he wasn't going to leave. He wasn't always a well behaved cat, there were bites and scratches and he brow beat the dogs and other cats when he was younger, but he mellowed into a lap cat and the sweetest purr machine you ever did see. He came into my bedroom every morning, sitting in front of my chair, as I put on my shoes and waited patiently for me to let him rub my fingers against his cheeks and scratch behind his ears. When he had enough, he would rise, flick his tail, and lead me out of the room. He would then go to his place on the couch and lord over the living room for most of the day.
Until a few months ago he as always a healthy cat, but infections in his teeth and ear couldn't be fought off with antibiotics and he declined rapidly. He because increasingly vocal and his cries were of discomfort and he'd look at me like I could ease it somehow, I couldn't other than to let him go. I knew it was nearing time when he stopped eating and would just lick at his food and then walk away. Last week he stopped coming to my room, couldn't get up on the couch, or even climb into a lap...it was time to say goodbye.
Well, Paul is out of pain now. He will be missed, but always remembered.
ps. Thanks to all of you for your thoughts. I appreciate them.

About the Game
Some info about the game getting going...
This game is going to be a little slow to get going as we and I have several things to do to get it ready:
Now a biggie!
I want to make this a West Marches style game. That means that there aren't necessarily fixed parties, but groups that go on missions together. The whole area is unknown and need to be explored and documented. There are dangers everywhere to be dealt with so there will be plenty of "missions" to go on.
All PC's are members of The Adventurer's Guild based out of the backroom of a tavern in town. It doesn't matter what you were before you came to the Western Lands, you came here to be Adventurers and Adventurers you will be!
PC's will sign up for adventures that are posted on the "Job Board" (or come to your attention in other ways) and undertake them with those that have also signed up for that specific mission. When/If you return you'll look for other "missions" and you'll go on them with the people that sign up for them. Could be same people, could be others and you could be in town waiting for a job you like. If you are waiting there will be things to do, see below.
Shadowdark is deadly, and I don't plan on pulling punches, so expect characters to die (especially at low levels) and if a player's character dies, they start over back in the tavern, not out in the field. The player will create a new character, member of the Guild, and look to sign onto an Adventure. That might be right away, or it might take some time for a party to come together.
When PC's return from an Adventure they will disband that party and undertake "Carousing and/or Learning" in town (see the book). Carousing can lead to adventures and is the primary way a PC "level's up" in Shadowdark. They will also look for another "Job."
This game is going to be a little slow to get going as we and I have several things to do to get it ready:
1. We create Characters and for me to create a template for Character Sheets in Google Sheets;
2. I need to write some background and startup text;
3. I need to flesh out the starting location a bit more (you'd be starting in a town);
4. I also need to get the first couple of potential adventures, at least, lightly prepped.

That's fine! You can't get left behind in this game. If something happens while you're gone, we'll just have something else happen for your character.

It looks good though. What AI do you use?
I've been dabbling with NightCafe studio. It's pretty good, but has issues with hands, weapons and 'leather armour'. It has a new model called 'flux' which created this:
Re: OOG Chatter

The models are certainly improving, and do a good job if you avoid their limitations.
Re: OOG Chatter
I googled and found this one:
https://www.canva.com/ai-character-generator/
It does great with halflings but doesn't understand what a Hobbit is.

Yeah... I said "holding a crossbow" and got whatever is in his hands. It might be part crossbow, part Lute.

I love your backstory! So he knows about dwarves from his background, too.

Re: OOG Chatter
I'll check out that character generator
We'll, he knows one dwarf at least, and it gives him a reason for him speaking dwarvish.
