In The Guild Hall ONLY

#1 Post by Eris »

I want to keep all PC interactions that take place in the Guild Hall and the Guild's rooms upstairs to be kept in this specific thread. This is a place to start a new PC, talk to Guild Master Harold Sikes, interact with other Guild Members, and form parties.

Let's keep everything else out of this thread, if you please.

The Guild Hall 6/23

#2 Post by Eris »

Ohmir, Elizabeth, Da and Trawets were more than glad when Cinnamon, the ship they had been traveling on, finally docked at a wharf in Slateholm. The trip across the wide sea from the north and east had been a rough one with storm after storm battering the ship. Everyone one of them had suffered from sea sickness at one time or another and getting their feet on solid, dry, land again cheered them no end!

Among all the 20 or so passengers these four had found a common ground. They were all travelling to Slateholm at the request of Duke John to join his Adventurer's Guild and had the papers from his agent to prove it.

As you four queued to leave the ship, you noticed a commotion on the docks. Several folks were confronting a child, but the child escaped and the four adults left before you could have intervened, even if you wanted to do so. Around the commotion work continued with little notice of it. You saw that several of the large warehouses lining the docks had armed guards posted outside who watched the stevedores going in with bundles and crates closely.

The queue proceeds at a snails pass and an hour passes before you can walk, somewhat unsteadily down the gang plank on to the wooden plants of the wharf. The ground is solid as you step onto the cobblestones, but your legs are still wobbly for a few steps as you relearn to walk on land.

The directions you had been given were clear and you walked through the dock workers up the street called Temple Road to where it intersected with Dock Road. On your left you saw a tavern with a sign outside proclaiming it as The Trident and Shield. You walked past it's wide doors and around the corner to the left onto Dock Road. There you saw a smaller sign posted on the wall next to a smaller door.

Adventurer's Guild read the sign. It appears you have arrived at your destination!

Pushing the door open to the sound of a bell jingling, you enter to find yourselves in the rather large windowless room, currently empty. A table and several chairs pushed back from it dominate the space. On one wall there is the painting of a rudimentary map showing what you think is the outline of the area around Slateholm, as Slateholm is the only named place on the map. On another wall is a large wooden board with a number of parchments pinned to it, above the board you read Job Board. At the back of the room is a corridor leading deeper into the interior and you can just make out a stair leading up at the back of that corridor.

You only look around for a moment before a man walks toward you from the corridor. He is wearing loosened, uncinched, leather armor and has a long sword hanging from his belt.

"Hello there!" he says, "I am Harold Sikes, Guild Master of The Adventurer's Guild."

"And might I ask who you might be?" he asks you politely all the while with one hand on the pommel of his sword.

Elizabeth

"Uhh, Elizabeth. Granddaughter of Madeera," says Elizabeth in a soft voice. She fumbles about in her pack for a moment, and pulls out the papers from Duke John. She holds them out. "Here."

Bowing at the waist to Guild Master, "I am Da, former guardsman at the Temple of Madeera. I have come to join your guild and bring an introduction from Duke John." He presents his papers to the Guild Master.

OOG: I've got a doctor's appointment today, so I won't post much until I get back from that. Just this...

Sikes takes the papers from each of you and looks them over nodding and says, "These look in order. Welcome to the Guild! I'll issue you badges, you'll want to wear them when you're in town, or at least have them available when dealing with the City Officials."

"One of the rules Duke John laid down for the Guild is that you only keep 9/10ths of any treasure you bring back from the wilds outside the city. The remaining 1/10th is a tariff on bringing treasure into his city. Non-Guild members have a 40% tariff imposed on them, so you see membership has its advantages." Guild Master Sikes tells you.

"As Members you have rooms available to you upstairs and meals here at the Trident and Shield." he says, "Drinks, meals elsewhere and entertainment you handle yourselves. Same with most equipment you might need."

"You can go out and explore as you will, but there is also the Job Board right over there." he points at the board on the wall, "Citizens, City Officials, the Church, and the Duke post jobs from time to time that you can undertake."

"Also, there is the map." Sikes points at the almost blank map on the wall, "The basic outline of the coast is there and Slateholm, but not much else. One of our jobs, as part of our charter with the Duke is to fill in this map by exploring the surrounding countryside."

Sikes pauses for a second looking at you, "I'll let you ask questions if you have any now."

Elizabeth

"Is there a vault or something to store our findings?" asks Elizabeth. She smiles bashfully. "Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, but it seems walking around town with ancient treasures from past civilizations make us a target of the unscrupulous."

Trawets looks around at the others and then asks So do we just go out on our own or what? Will a group... draft us in or do I have to recruit some people myself? He looks very uncertain of himself and scared at the thought of him having to form a group.

Vurna of Yaseň

An olive-skinned young woman disembarked the Cinnamon after the other newcomers, taking care to stay out of the way of the bustling seamen and stevedores. Hailing from some distant isle or shore, Vurna had drawn attention aboard the ship but she parried the advances of both sea-dog and male adventurer with a dark stare and a glib tongue. Instead she nursed herself through seasickness with a tea made from certain herbs that kept her drowsy for much of the voyage. If there were a fellow passenger she spent any time with it was Elizabeth, the Madeera devotee, being that both were women with a shared interest in the practice of sorcery. And Vurna did not seem much phased by the sight of the other girl's intricate and mystical tattoos.

Now wearing her thick leather coat over a bustier and leggings of similar material, and settling a wide-brimmed and pointed black hat on her head, Vurna was herself quite a sight as she left the docks. A brief look around confirmed that the things she really longed to do − a walk in a stand of green trees, perhaps a dip in a fresh stream − were not close at hand. She clucked and ruefully checked the few coins in her purse again. Yes, business first then.

Before the ship was out of sight, she turned to look up at the tip of its mainmast. Sailors called that the "crow's nest" − she smiled at the irony as a tiny shape appeared against the bright sky, then flew over the Dock Street and finally closed in to land on the rooftop of the building ahead of her: a mid-size bird with the shiny black feathers of a crow but a much paler, knobby beak. By the door, a small but neatly painted sign read in Common:

ADVENTURER'S GUILD

Entering the guildhall Vurna presented herself and her letter from the Duke's man. Then she listened carefully to the guildmaster's speech much as the four others had, an hour or so before she arrived, and hoped to receive her own badge of membership.

"Thank you... No questions, Master Sikes."

ALL of the PC's filter out of the downstairs meeting room of the Guild Hall for the Trident's Taproom, the Member's Room upstairs, and/or the bath house a couple of doors down Dock Street.

For those that are heading up to the Rooms to stow your gear before doing other things this is the post to read. For those leaving the Guild Hall for the Bathhouse or to drink/eat in the Trident go to Hot Times in Slateholm 6/23-24

The Guild Hall is connected to the Trident and Shield by corridor, so you can enter it from the back directly, or can go out onto Dock street and around the corner to the left onto Temple Road and find yourselves at the front doors of The Trident and Shield Tavern.

The Guild has rooms on the second and third floors of the building that makes up both the Hall and the tavern. You can get to those rooms by going through the Guild Hall's downstairs meeting room and up the stairs down a short corridor at its back, or by going through the Trident and Shield, down the corridor to the hall and up the stairs.

Either way, those heading for their rooms go up the stairs and enter a large room with tables, chairs and sofas scattered about. Surrounding the large Common Room are a 12 doors each leading to a small bedroom. Another set of stairs leads up to the third floor where you will find 12 more bedrooms available. Several of the doors in surrounding the Commons have names on them. A single Adventurer wearing a badge can be found seated at one of the tables in the Commons Room sipping from an ale mug and reading a broadsheet. This person is a halfling woman dressed in a bright yellow tunic under a leather half vest. She is wearing leather trousers, and her bare, hairy feet are propped up on the chair next to her. A long dagger hangs from one side of her belt and a coin purse hangs from the other.

She looks up and grins while holding her nose, "Ewww! You smell just as bad now as you did in the streets! Seeing as you ain't locked up I guess you paid your tariff to the Duke, eh?"

Then spying the newcomers she nods to them and says, "Hello there! I'm Daisy Hodbringer, intrepid Explorer. I haven't see you folks before, but from the badges you're Members, so you must be newbies!"

She shakes the broadsheet she is holding and says, "Y'all seen this? Slateholm has a rat problem and there's rumors of a couple of cases of plague showing up already! Town folk are starting to worry. Seems like a job that needs a solution and one we could get in on, eh?"

"Either that or get out of town until the plague runs its course."
she adds, "And here's another report of interest. A burial party got run off by ghosts, or specters or something, in that old graveyard north of town. You know the job posted on the board downstairs, nobody's taken that on yet have they? If the undead are running off burial parties it's getting more serious than just the rumors that there were before."

"But first!" Daisy winks, grins and says jingling her coin purse, "I said I'd stand you all a round of ale down in the Trident to kick off a night of Carousing! As a welcome to the Guild, which I doubt any of this lot did, I'll include you new folks, too!"

"Just one round mind you, you'll have to make merry on our own coin after that." Daisy says grinning again, "A proper young lady like me has to save her money for her old age, don't you know?"

OOC: One thing I'd like you to do is pick a bedroom. There are 12 on the second floor and 12 on the third, so plenty to choose from. All I need to know is who is rooming on the 2nd and who is rooming on the 3rd.

Vurna greets the barefoot halfling warmly, content to find another face in the crowd who's both female and not big. "Happy to take your offer Daisy, after I settle into my room."

Vurna is equally pleased, and a bit surprised, to find her own lodgings rather than having to bunk in with someone at the Guild's expense. She goes to the third floor and finds an empty corner room where she stows her satchel and bedroll, then opens the window wide to let her rook familiar, Zberač, find his way in.

Daisy looks at Da's meager collection of coins and shakes her head, "You need to earn some gold Da! You can't have much fun with that meager horde."

She looks him over and says, "Are you as strong as you look?"

Before Da gets a chance to answer she adds, "Of course you are!" then unexpectedly flips her pewter mug at Da's face shouting, "Catch!"
[1d20+2]=14+2=16 [1d20+2]=15+2=17 Some people like always to roll for themselves. Some want me to always roll for them. Some are happy to go either way. I rolled this time, but if you prefer to always go one way or the other let me know.
Da leans quickly to one side and catches the pewter mug as it intersects where his head just was...not spilling a drop of the half filled mug.

"Quick, too!" Daisy grins, "Stick with me tonight and we'll earn you a few more coins to add to your collection."

She looks around at the newcomers continuing to grin, "If anyone else has a light purse, and would prefer to do a bit of work rather than drink yourself stupid tonight come join me."

"After I stand everyone to that round of drinks, I have a little job that needs completing. With Vesper drawing as much attention as she always does, tonight's a good night to complete that job."
Daisy says to the group, "It'll be worth a couple of gold coin for you and maybe more if we're lucky."

As Trawets comes down the steps he hears Daisy's offer and says While I have some coins, more never hurts and it might be best to get the lay of the land a little before partying with Vesper. I'm an amateur compared to her.
