A while ago I had a boss who was in the air force and in the 60s he was stationed in Korea. Apparently a form of currency with the ladies of negotiable affection was Chapstick.

I appear to have invented the Bawd character class... :roll: It's like a Bard but with a certain homage to the Houri class from the White Dwarf magazine of long ago. :)

An apocryphal story involves a British Army Staff Sergeant who, when posted to Bosnia, managed to wangle an amount of Levi jeans and a crate of Mars bars into the peacekeeping zone. He instantly became a "Merchant Prince" (of some dark renown) within the peacewarzone...

From a first-hand source - our archeology students were going to a dig in former Warsaw Pact countries in the 90s and they each brought a second suitcase of blue jeans which funded the semester trip.

There are still some "hard" currencies with international recognition and indeed "crypto" currencies even back then... ;)
