Ha ha. I love being the cleric. Clerics and rangers and hobbit thieves are tops for me. When I’m not DMing I’ve been stuck with the MU lately, especially in my eow skype game - which originally had been my least favorite class, though I’m coming around

Hey everyone (except Scott308),

Urdur asked the party a question (that he had earlier asked Telkis):
SocraticLawyer wrote: Sun Apr 13, 2025 6:58 am We will not catch Ingrid tonight, says Urdur. Perhaps we had best wait until dawn to pursue the vampyr.

Can I please get a quick vote? We'll go with majority rule because splitting the party results in TPKs that I ultimately get blamed for!

If you can kindly respond in 36 hours, I can post Monday night. Thanks.

Wait for them to come to us and kill us, or go to them and get killed. I’m in the no delay camp. Unless the plan is to head back to town. Then we definitely won’t catch her.

Did I ask, does she have anything good any of us can use? Magic wise?

If you don't pursue now, and wait til dawn to pursue, then I imagine you would return to the village til daybreak. So what is your vote please? :)

You won't catch her. Please see my last DM post. :)

You did not ask. You haven't posted IC yet. :) The majority of her possessions are in her backpack, back at the peasant home.

She left her armor and shield at the edge of the forest.

Pixie, I'm currently asking Scott about Ingrid's holy symbol. It's not painted on the shield, but Telkis knows Ingrid tattooed her holy symbol onto her palm when she was in Hookhill.

Like Urdur said IC, I think followong Ingrid at night is a trap, or at least an unwise course of action. We will need every advantage against a vampire, and our strongest advantage is daylight. Showing up at the castle with 5 hours to go until dawn gives up that advantage and leaves us vulnerable.

Inferno, do we know how long it would take to reach the castle from our current position? Ideally, we could time things such that we show up just as dawn breaks.

My vote is to stay where we are for a few hours, then head to the castle, arriving at dawn.

The old woman says gravely, "The creature's lair is said to be a day's travel into the mountains. The Old Road leads to a ruined stronghold of the ancient times. Hrad Havrovina it was once called...

"Or, in your tongue, Castle Ravenloft."

Perhaps in horror, Ingrid withdraws from the discussion and its dire implications, even as her friends discuss binding her for her own safety.

Telkis asks, "Are there any safe places to camp between here and this Ravenloft? Do you have associates in the mountains that might help us?"

The old woman answers, "No. No mortal lives on the mountain. And we have never ventured more than a half day upon the Old Road... so we may safely return to our homes by sundown. "

Telkis asks, "Do you have horses to get us there faster?"

The old woman replies, "Yes but I fear they will avail you nought. The Old Road is overgrown, treacherous and steep. And our horses are plough horses. But you are welcome to them, and to all that we have."

In Greyhawk, "a day's travel" would be taken to mean around 8 or 9 hours, from dawn til dusk.

Because Maleva and her ancestors haven't walked the Old Road to Castle Ravenloft for fear of being caught outside after nightfall, the doomed heroes know this estimated distance has been handed down over the generations via oral tradition of the Flan peasants, which brings its accuracy into question.

Furthermore, if the information is old enough, it may refer to a time before the Old Road was "overgrown." So the distance might take longer to cover now.

If the above information and estimations are correct, this option won't work.

In order to arrive at dawn you would have departed the Flan settlement at sundown. Maybe earlier because traveling at night is slower than traveling in daylight.

Given that, please let me know how you would like to vote.
