Aha! I best go and get the Companion book too.
(I'm happy to buy that book as well)
I'm sure we can help you get some macros sorted.

This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

Re: [Looking for Players] Ace in the Hole (SR3)
I'm going to go for human. I've realised I need to add Etiquette (Street) to active skills (hello flaws), and of course work out knowledge skills, language skills and hobby skills (one of which will be guitar [electric]).
Re: [Looking for Players] Ace in the Hole (SR3)
Maybe I can give my character a singing hobby (is that one? I haven't gotten to hobby stuff yet). We could moonlight as a heavy metal band in between runs!

Re: [Looking for Players] Ace in the Hole (SR3)
I was just thinking that myself. Some of us could have met through a band, it would have to be rock of course.
[I think hobby skills fall under 'interest skills' on p91.]

Re: [Looking for Players] Ace in the Hole (SR3)
Heavy metal is good too. Of course 2059 could have whole new flavours of either of those.
I'll have a think about it.
I'll have a think about it.
Re: [Looking for Players] Ace in the Hole (SR3)
I need to see how much I need to adjust (both mechanically and background), but I'm inclined to repurpose a character I had made for a short lived attempt at trying out SR6 with my tabletop group. While that edition is.. not good, the character turned out well. She's a street shaman con artist/cat burglar/thief with a focus on illusion/deception type spells (and Levitation for the cat burglary).
I'll save the long version of her background for her actual write-up, but the short version is she's an elf, the result of a fling between a rather charming Salish elf father and a driven Japanese mother working for Yamatetsu. She very much takes after her father and spent as much time with him as possible, but she was mostly raised in daycare and later as a latchkey kid by her largely absent mother in Bellevue. At 18 she had a bitter split with her mother when her father died: while he died of cancer, she blamed her mother for not paying for his health care. She left with as much as she could carry with her and as much nuyen as she could get away with, using that to start a new life in Tukwila, where she's been using her talents for the last year or two to steal whatever she can from the corps she hates.
I imagine she'll need a fake SIN with that kind of background. The conspicuous lack of a name is because I want to think up a new one for her. I originally named her Jinx, but with the release of Arcane* a couple of years ago I'd like to come up with something else. (*Great series on Netflix by the way)
As for dice rolling, if we don't use the dice roller here I like orokos.com. It's very flexible once you get the hang of it. Every once in a while (I think it's happened 2 or 3 times over the years) the site breaks though.

Re: [Looking for Players] Ace in the Hole (SR3)
Speaking of Flaws... Juri asked about Addiction, which I could have sworn was in 3rd, but I can't find it. I mean, they have lots of rules about drugs and addiction, but no Flaw.
I will do text and pretty it up, but in case anyone else might want to do it, Addiction will have three factors:
1. Legality
2. Frequency
3. Severity
You will add the points of each to get the total point value.
Legality:
The rating being, of course, how severe the penalty is for getting caught with it or using it.
1. Legal = 0 points
2. Misdemeanor = 1
3. Felony - 3
Frequency:
The rating is how often you have to get a fix before suffering the effects of withdrawal.
1. A week = 1 point
2 Every 72 hours = 2
3. Every 48 hours = 3
4. Every day = 4
Severity:
The rating is how badly withdrawal messes you up. The rating is the wound level in Stun you take if you don't get a fix -- at each interval of your chosen frequency. It cannot be healed by resting, only by getting a fix.
1. Mild (Take a Light Stun) = 1 point
2. Moderate (Take a Moderate Stun) = 2 points
3. Severe (Take a Severe Stun) = 3 points
So, if Billy Bob Corper is a fine, upstanding citizen, but he has to have his soykaf every morning or he gets the shakes, that's a Legal, Daily, Mild Addiction... 0+4+1 = 5 points.
What do you guys think? I did not want to go down to hourly fixes. Too much paperwork. And I didn't want to add cost to the mix. After all, you still have to buy the drug of your choice... and they have some pretty bad side effects all on their own.
