Re: So, You Want To Be A Bounty Hunter...
Hi all.
Glad to meet everyone. I know Terry posted this information earlier, but I am going to repost here and try to make some connections if I can.
Walter Slaine (trying to figure out a catchy nickname, but perhaps I will let that happen organically)
Walter Slaine
#1 (Bounty Hunter) You bring in an infamous criminal, who is well-known for the notorious crimes they committed.
#2 (Law Enforcement) An investigation goes critically wrong or leads to the top, ruining your career.
#3 (Drifter) You pick up a few useful skills here and there.
#4 (Marine) Mishap: A mission goes wrong and you are stranded behind enemy lines. Increase Stealth or Survival by one level but, due to the mission’s failure, you are ejected from the service. This is on a jungle world.
#5 (Marine) You are on the front lines of a planetary assault and occupation.
#6 (Marine Academy) A supposedly harmless prank goes wrong and someone gets hurt, physically or emotionally. You gain an enemy.
I like the connection with William: "Walter served with William on a planetary assault." It makes sense; in the military, it can be a small world, and meeting up again would make for some great drinking stories and a bit of friendly competition. While I assume the reunion would be on good terms, it is fun to play with.
I can also see a connection with Jaelah Shugilamar, "#3 (Law Enforcement) Victim of a crime". Perhaps the crime was a set up by a cartel, we both are investigating the case, but money and a corrupt system frames us. I took the fall for the accusations and get booted. They went easier on Jaelah and they were able to bounce back in the Law Enforcement career.

So how about she was serving as a DS on a Prime Arcology crime squad assigned to investigate the "non arrival"/theft on Collace of an eight foot long piece of art/archaeotech which just wasn't in its sealed and locked case in the high security cargo area of the delivery courier. The investigation was an administrative and jurisdictional nightmare further complicated by everyone (including Imperials) claiming investigative primacy and the interfering Collace "UpSpire Nobility" having a hissy fit over this insult to Collace's cultural uplift / attempt to demonstrate that the place wasn't full of thieves...joertexas wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2024 5:33 pmShe worked in Prime Arcology, located on the planet's prime meridian, about a third of the way around the planet east from Collace Downport. Garvin featured as one of the "usual suspects". He was an offworlder with some irregularities over his entry status and Jaelah liked him for it - not due to any hard evidence just her detective's gut / hunch. She spoke to him aboard a catamaran he'd rented for a sport fishing and diving holiday. He was both friendly and polite (but wouldn't be moved from his alibi) and was also maybe less of a narcissistic playboy than he maybe should have been. He possessed an affable self assurance when he should have been more... careless. And then there was the "just one more thing": the catamaran crew and onboard babes... weren't "pretty" enough. Her gut didn't like that.
Please feel free to add/alter the above and maybe there's some mileage in how/why Garvin was discounted from the enquiry?
Re: So, You Want To Be A Bounty Hunter...
Jaelah thanked Garvin and invited him to remain on-planet until he and his associates were cleared in the case. They all cooled their heels for another two weeks before Jaelah met with Garvin. There, she informed him that he was no longer a suspect in the case. She was not forthcoming with more information other than to explain that the case was still active.Tiglath wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2024 6:35 pmSo how about she was serving as a DS on a Prime Arcology crime squad assigned to investigate the "non arrival"/theft on Collace of an eight foot long piece of art/archaeotech which just wasn't in its sealed and locked case in the high security cargo area of the delivery courier. This connection could have been made on Collace, Avastan, Tarsus, or Trexalon. Jaelah was operating off the reservation part of the time as she tracked down and killed her husband's murderer. The end came in a bar at Avastan Downport, where she decapitated the woman with a "borrowed" cutlass.ravenspoe wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2024 6:13 pmI can also see a connection with Jaelah Shugilamar, "#3 (Law Enforcement) Victim of a crime". Re: So, You Want To Be A Bounty Hunter...
Jaelah and Garvin have bought and added their equipment (or only added for mustering out benefits) to their tabs on the Ship's Locker spreadsheet. They listed their ending cash (thank you!) and I moved it to the Ship's Finances spreadsheet. If the rest of you could do the same, that we'll be ready to start once the connections are done. The editable link to the spreadsheet is in your PMs.

Also, you listed your eyes as paid by employer. Is that something you would have been saddled with medical debt over or was this a benefit?
MEDICAL DEBT: After you have finished creating your Traveller, but before the campaign begins, you must pay any outstanding costs from medical care or anagathic drugs out of your Benefits. Any debt left is hanging over you at the start of the game and you can be sure it will be collected, likely with interest.
Re: So, You Want To Be A Bounty Hunter...
Jaelah used her husband's police department life insurance payout (and her own medical insurance) for that, and to pay Kcr300 in family expenses for her own family and her in-laws for medical care, education expenses, and the like. Neither of their families were well off. The enhancements were her sister-in-law's idea.terrymixon wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2024 8:50 pmPersuade it is.joertexas wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2024 8:43 pmPersuade-1 (since I can't find anything like Interrogate)?terrymixon wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2024 7:46 pm Connections Status (To Be Updated As We Proceed)

Found a nice pic of Garvin and please update his Dex to 12 / C (from the early draft/WIP).
How about two levels of Streetwise (for Streetwise 2) from his contact skills?

Thankee, much obliged.
Re: So, You Want To Be A Bounty Hunter...
That should work and would merge in with the start of the game nicely as we hunt down a big bounty together.
