Saving throw [1d20] = 3
stench loss [1d6] = 4

Ewell feels weaker once again, and it causes his form to be off, but...
longsword to hit (+3 str , +1class bonus): [1d20+4] = 11+4 = 15 , damage1d8 (+4 str bonus): [1d8+4 ] = 2+4 = 6

(-2 strength and -2 damage =13 Thac0=18, hits AC5; damage =4...)

O'rek brushes off the stench as just another thing...

Save vs. Poison [1d20] = 8 +5 = 13

... and attacks the closet trog:

Mace attack [1d20+2] = 5+2 = 7 (THACO=20)

Mace Damage (+1 weapon, +3 str dmg) = [1d6+4] = 3+4 = 7

"The arse of hell this stink is!" Aric the barbarian grimaces at the vile stench as he brings his sword down on the trog. Blood spews forth, bone cracks.

To Save vs. Poison = 10 [1d20+5] = 13+5 = 18

Bastard sword attack [1d20+3] = 13+3 = 16 Damage [2d8+4] = 15+4 = 19

After the initial blast of flames, Fimmion slips back into the group and allows the fighters to take down the now javelin deprived and severely burnt swamp beasts. He smiles only for a moment though as he hears shouts coming from the other end of the room, more beasts from the shadows, just as he feared. The chef will stand in between the two groups and will remain alert for an oppurtunity to help out.

Saving Throw [1d20] = 7

And while he is at it, he gags a bit and might even toss some cookies when no one is looking, the stench in the air more potent than he remembered last time. "Maybe fried swamp beast wasn't such a good idea... *gags*"

Strom smells the trogs stench wash over him but this time it has no effect on him:
[1d20] = 19
OMG Loadstone made a save!

As a back rank fighter he will move to intercept any trog that breaks through the line.

Will likely run out of time on my commute before this update is complete. I should have a chance to work on it a bit this morning from work, but will wrap up over lunch if necessary.

Round 1

#130 Post by dmw71 »

The toasty first line of attackers are slow to recover from Fimmion's torching, but are effective in weakening the groups strength as Ewell, Kendrick and Aric all fall victim to their stench, leaving only O'rek immune.

"Oh, so that's why you made a stink about the stink," Kendrick manages to say before retching. He unsuccessfully attempts to poke the nearest trog (t3) with a spear over Ewell's shoulder before realizing he has some spacing for his sword and tosses aside his pointed stick. Ewell, his strength drained, also fails to eliminate the already severely weakened threat (t3). "The arse of hell this stink is!" Aric grimaces as he brings his sword down on the nearest trog (t1), nearly slicing the creature in half with his violent two-handed attack. O'rek shrugs off the offending stench, but his intended target (t2) is able to avoid the crushing affects of the mace swung in its direction. The troglodyte at the intersection (t3), sensing the aura of protection emanating from Kendrick, looks to end this magical hindrance and targets the paladin with its natural weapons. Kendrick manages to easily avoid both raking attempts, but the creature catches him with a serious bite attack (-5). The swamp creature slain by Aric is quickly replaced (l5) with a new, javelin toting fiend which jabs wildly at the barbarian. The last creature able to enter the conflict is unable to connect against O'rek with any of its claw or bite attacks.

---

Opposite the conflict from the western entrance, a new situation arises as another batch of the foul-smelling creatures emerges from a previously undetected entrance in the northeast corner. Shannigans lets loose a quick arrow at first sight of the creatures but the missile misses its mark. Moments later, Epsilon manages to quickly freeze the lead creature (t5) in place with a 'Hold Person' spell. The held trog is quickly knocked into the room from behind, almost into Kaltar who deflects the falling lizard beast off to the side. The cleric, taking advantage of the defenseless creature, manages to connect with his mace but the blow is not fatal. "We have company here!" he yells. The second rank trog (t6) rushes into the room "around" its helpless comrade and is immediately met by Darrin. The young apprentice manages to briefly hold off any further advancement by the creature but is quickly struck down with a viscous blow.

---

The stench in the air is more potent than Fimmion remembers. "Maybe fried swamp beast wasn't such a good idea..." he gags. The heavily wounded Strom, stomach finally accustomed to the repugnant odor, mans the center of the room alongside the struggling chef and surveys the challenging situations their companions face on either front.

EWell swings and misses
longsword to hit (+3 str , +1class bonus): [1d20+4] = 6+4 = 10 , damage1d8 (+4 str bonus): [1d8+4 ] = 3+4 = 7

the stench obviously affecting him. he tries again...
longsword to hit (+3 str , +1class bonus): [1d20+4] = 11+4 = 15 , damage1d8 (+4 str bonus): [1d8+4 ] = 8+4 = 12 (-2, so to hit 13/18 and damage of 10)
and seriously hurts the trog.

Fimmion, after regaining some of his composure, makes his way to the northern side of the room and sees if he can find a big enough opening to fire a color spray at the oncoming swamp beasts to the east. He will not attempt the spell if one of his allies will get caught in the cross fire, and he doesn't think that the fighters would listen if he told them to close their eyes for a moment

If he is not able to safely execute the spell, he will keep the torch up high for the groups nearby.

'Color Spray' has a fairly significant area of effect (5 x 20 x 20 ft. wedge) so, unfortunately, it's extremely unlikely he would be able to target just the troglodytes. Plus, my map of that corner is "complicated" because of the fallen, held trog. If I strip everything out of the room (see map, below), you'll notice that the northern wall will bend down into the passageway the beasts are in, so there really isn't a clear shot.

Code: Select all

                                  __________
                                 / \_/
                                / /
                       ________/ \
                      / \
                     / _____ |
                        / \ __ |
                               \____/ \____ /
                                            \___/
Your best angle, and this isn't necessarily a suggestion -- merely an observation, if you will -- would be to hit them head-on, between Epsilon (who's moving, but after your spell with a fast casting time) and Shannigans.

Code: Select all

                            ___________/ l2
                           / Fi [t5]l1
                          / Ka*t7s3
                 ________/ Ke* Ep t6/

                                     \__/
I actually just noticed, as I'm doing some prep work for the next round, I already moved you to the northern wall; feel free to reposition yourself or suggest another answer after the above explanation.[/ooc]
