"Let's gather in that large room, if it's safe, and compare notes," suggests Kendrick. "We can combine our maps and decide where to go next."

"For our part, we found a nursery with the luckiest trog-woman in the world and another room that has several more trogs. Those still live; they didn't follow us when we moved to a better strategic position. We ought to defeat them handily in our full numbers. What did you find?"

Looking over the found party memebers Epsilon muses

You have suffered some rather grevious wounds. Do we need to retreat and rest? I can give a coupls of minor healing spells but that is all.

The hobbit points nervously and replies, "We found that it isnt safe in that large room. We havent explored much at all. You are planning on continuing arent you?"
Shannigans fears the group does not want to return quickly to OHare at this time.
He lowers his head in slight disappointment.

Strom weakly opens his eyes and scans those around him. I fear the spider bite has left me ill. I will not be much use in a fight.

"By Crom's cock these lizard beasts were tough!" exclaims Aric, wiping the blood and ichor of troglodyte off his blade. He adjusts his nostril armor against the smell.

"I would have healing," he reluctantly adds, seeing the divine touch of the priests on Strom. (Aric at 10 HP.) The barbarian applies his own limited native first aid to himself (1 HP) then to the still injured Strom (1 HP.)

Aric cuts out a few large teeth from the dead trogs he killed to add to his necklace. Crom will see many dead foes on the barbarian's victory necklace when he dies.

Then he searches among the dead bodies for any loot.

Ewell looks around and sees the battle over.
well... we can go back to town and patch the weaker ones up, or head back where we saw those trogs.
if strom requires aid just to stand, and a barbarian is asking for majical help, there must not be enough left to help in a fight.

Aric applies his native first aid knowledge as he tends to his wounds, as well as those of Strom (+1hp each). His search of the dead bodies produces a few worthless trinkets but, not surprisingly, the lizard beasts aren't carrying anything of value on their bodies while in their lair. The barbarian does collect some troglodyte teeth to add to his necklace, though.

Movement is heard echoing off in the distance.

Okay, who's doing what? Are some coming and some going? Is everyone staying together?

The group has moved into the chamber, and the noises are heard coming from the western branches.

Ewell pleads...At some point, we need to finish them off. How many heals we got,and how many good fighters? If you need me to escort you back to town first, just let me know.

"If they're coming from the tunnels, we should take positions at the entrance to this room to use the bottleneck to our advantage for once," suggests Kendrick.

Something like this:

Code: Select all

If Grimnail is not of the group right now, Fimmion will mention that he can still cast a burning hands spell and color spray to help out in any future conflicts. "If given the oppurtunity, I can light up some of those swamp beasts with some fire and dazzling sprays of color, to help with any future engagements." The chef looks behind towards the other end of the big room and keeps a weary eye on the darkness. He will go back to retrieve his torch, if it's still lit. If it is no longer useable, he will light another and stick with the group.

Strom moves with shakey legs to stand by Aric. You will need all your strength if the fighting begins anew he says as he lays on hands.

Aric has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Strom in battle. He has respect for the man. He knows some warriors are more...sentimental in times of battle. So for their victory in battle the barbarian would not be surprised to get a punch in the shoulder, firm handshake, a rattle of shields, a head butt, maybe even a pat on the back.

So Aric is taken aback some when Strom lays his hands on him in a more lingering manner...is that a prayer he is whispering? Then the barbarian's eyes widen as he sees almost all his wounds miraculously heal. "When do clerics wield swords?" thinks Aric. He resists the urge to flinch away from Strom - his respect for him as a warrior makes this possible.

"Thank you," says Aric unsteadily. "You must be close to your god."

The barbarian takes hold of his sword again as the noise is heard from the west corridors.

OOC: Aric will try to stay close to Strom as he is still injured (and also his Prot. From Evil). Coincidentally close to Ewel too (these tight corridors) as well if that cavalier + in 10' applies to others. Spells in advance to reduce some numbers would help!

What is Strom's current HP? He went down due to the spider bite, after all the heals I don't know where he is at or if he is in fighting shape.

Shannigans sheaths his weapons while giving the new ones the 'mini-tour' of the chamber.
"Of course they dont have any of the luxuries one would want in a home, but they do have good........"
As the new enemies reveal themselves, the hobbit sighs and drops his head in sadness."....venting."
Again he grabs daggers and takes position to guard the cook and the torchbearer.

After the below 'Cure Light Wounds' spell, Strom is up to 6 hit points; the 'Signature' and 'Hit Points' thread should both be constantly updated if you have any questions.

---

Strom moves with shakey legs to stand by Aric. "You will need all your strength if the fighting begins anew." he says as he lays on hands (Aric: +6hp); the lingering touch with healing affects catching the barbarian by surprise. "Thank you," says Aric unsteadily. "You must be close to your god." he says as he takes hold of his sword again and moves to the west corridors.

Fearing another conflict, Epsilon casts a 'Cure Light Wounds' spell on Strom (+4).

Fimmion mentions that he still has a few offensive spells to help out in any future conflicts. "If given the opportunity, I can light up some of those swamp beasts with some fire and dazzling sprays of color." he says, looking behind towards the other end of the big room and keeps a weary eye on the darkness as he retrieves his torch.

Kendrick suggests those capable rush to secure the opening to the chamber. "If they're coming from the tunnels, we should take positions at the entrance to this room to use the bottleneck to our advantage for once," he suggests.

As the group prepares their defenses, they realize the chamber opening is only wide enough for two attackers to take actions against oncoming opponents at a time (I have Aric and Ewell manning these two slots; let me know if this needs to be revised).

The familiar foul stench continues to draw, but is not yet at full potency.

Code: Select all

                                           _________
                                          /
               _____ / Ka
               __ \ ________/ Ke Ep
                 \ \ / Ew Fi
                  \ \ / _____ Ar St Da
                   | \_____/ / \ Or Sh__
                   | / \____/ \___
                   | _______/
                   / /
                  / /
                 / /

---

I will need confirmation of the above positioning. I will assume Ewell will allow Fimmion an opening to allow him to quickly get off a spell before the chef retreats for cover. No saying how Aric, the barbarian, will respond to the visible display of magic.

If there are no changes needed to the above, we can move again tomorrow (Monday).

If Kendrick switches to a spear or javelin, can he attack from the second rank?

If we wanted to allow more people direct attacks, we could back up the center a bit, like this:

Code: Select all

                                           _________
                                          /
               _____ / Ka
               __ \ ________/ Ke Ep
                 \ \ / Ew Fi

Once the group is in the position they want to be in, Fimmion will suggest that if someone has any, to throw some oil at the entrance. Preferring to use his torch to light up oil instead of using magic, he will try to do so before slipping back into the group; otherwise, he will indeed use a burning hands spell if the group allows enough room.

[1d3+4] = 3+4 = 7 (if needed)
