The man called Barto leans on his battered shield and waves his sword as he talks. "The Vale? I-I don't...I don't know about that. So, you don't serve Lord Brunis or the King? More brigands are ya?"
He grows agitated and begins to breathe heavily. "You won't take me prisoner again! So swears Barto Trume!"

Cassius

"Veluna? To the north? The Vale of Luna? No matter. I do not know a Lord Brunis, and I assume the King you refer to is of Keoland, given your shield."

Cassius lowers his bow. "My friend is right. I do not believe we are your enemy. We ran into those brigands earlier, much to their detriment. Please allow my companions to tend to your wounds."

Gordansk

Watches the man and other parts of the swamp. Seeing him injured and others try to help, he intercedes with a healing spell

Gordansk casts Cure Light Wounds: [1d8]=6

"Best we keep moving." he says.

Barto's Revelation

Barto points his sword at Fahima when she starts talking, then at Cassius who also attempts to soothe him. Finally at Roan, whose merry reply has the desired effect...and Barto lowers his sword and leans on his shield. Sai, Vilana and Zan stand back, keeping watch on their surroundings in case of an ambush, while the others slowly approach the lone soldier of Eor.
Gordansk approaches the man and invokes the healing of the Raven Queen...and when Barto feels his wounds and aches disappear, he nearly cries with relief. "Brigands...they attacked me and my companions; they poured out of the field east of Waycombe. There was a...little old man...a spellcaster of some sorts; don't know if he was with the brigands or...ah, I can't remember. I was captured, knocked unconscious. When I awoke...I was somewhere in the great southern swamp..." his voice trails off as he turns to look toward the south.
"Best we keep moving," Gordansk says, turning away from the man.
Barto suddenly grabs Gordansk's robe. "Some terrible evil lurks there! I-I cannot remember what it is...but...y-you sh-shouldn't go there! I must report back to Count Eor in Vendare! Come with me! Don't go south. It's dangerous!"

Sai

Relax Good Man. We are not with out means to combat this evil. Calm your nerves and set down. You will spend the night with us and tomorrow I will bless you with a Noble Stead and you can ride back to your King. Now gather your things we are exposed here and there is nothing defendable here. Let's move on we can talk more about this evil in a nice grove or rock out cropping.

He keeps his bow at the ready.

Zan

Zan does not believe this man's story, but other than watching the crazy man does not act on the disbelief.

Cassius

"A little man? How peculiar." Cassius remarks as he relaxes a bit.

"You will get to Vendare in good time. Listen to my friend and journey with us for a day." He turns to the others. "Let's keep moving. We need to press on, danger or not."

Shrugs. Another sword with us might be good but is a crazed knight a liability?

Duty and Honor

The man called Barto listens to the companions words of encouragement...and almost decides to go with them. But then pulls away and begins backing up. "Nay! My first duty is to return to Vendare and report to the Count. I-I will urge him to send back as much aid as possible for your quest...as many men as he can spare. Don't try to stop me! I'm made up my mind...and for that I thank you. May the gods of light and truth bless your journey."
And with that the man called Barto strides off, heading in the direction the companions came from.

Vilana watches him go and shakes her head. "He won't make it. It's foolish to traverse this swamp alone."
She looks back at Zan and says, "Thar ath tel'quiet. Fae less bhen."
For those who understand Elvish:
"Fine by me. One less human."

Southern Hool Swamp, Afternoon, Cool and Foggy
Real Trouble

Without hindrance, Barto heads off back the way you came and soon is gone from sight. Vilana just sighs and shakes her head, and then continues to move forward with everyone else. The group travels for the rest of the morning and into the morning. The swamp gets thicker thicker with choking vines, trees, swampy holes, and foliage. Pretty soon, there is no path to follow, but Cassisus and others lead on, and the rest fall in behind them. The cold, stagnant water attempts to suck the boots off the feet and the air is thick with fog and sounds of the swamp.
The "trail" ends in water...water everywhere the group turns. There is no longer solid ground (or semi-solid ground) to be found anywhere nearby, just vines and scrub snagging your clothing and hair in an attempt to drag you down into the dark, brackish water. Then suddenly, there it is.

After more than enough travel through these horrid swamps, you finally see a huge stone platform ahead of you, rising out of the water in the side of a sheer, muddy mound. On the surface of this platform a few marble columns still reach toward the open sky; others have fallen over and broken.
Three well-worn stone steps ascend from the water itself to the surface of this marble platform. A number of small skiffs are tied to spikes driven into these steps. At the extreme rear of this platform you can see some type of decorated wall.

You marvel at the sight of this ancient temple for several moments...and it is then you see something floating in the water: a body of a lizardman. In fact, once your eyes adjust to the gloom, you see several bodies, some broken, some looking as if their scales have been melted off...or eaten off by something. More and more are scattered all around the temple and its muddy mound.

"Could these be Sakatha's lizardmen?" Vilana whispers, her eyes peering into the water and at the temple.

Fahima works feverishly, updating her map and adding notes of everything she sees.

Roan nods his head "Probably was ere a long long time but I'm bettin so was tha swamp." looking around he wonders if it will soon be time to take the concoction the hag gave them.

Cassius

He keeps his attention on the bodies and the trees, visions of wings fill his head. "Could be, Roan, could be. Or maybe we wait until we enter."

Cassius prods a body, making sure it's really inanimate. "Aulicus. That was the name Tree Moss said. Maybe this is its work. Which isn't good, I fear. I was hoping that the canopy would prevent a dragon from engaging."

"Well. I guess we go take a look."
