Caveman Dwelling near the Starfall, Island of Xygax the Wizard, Land of One Thousand Towers
Night. Friday, April 13th, 912 CY

Fiefo and Maskelyn bathe in the star pool as the reflection of the Goddess With a Thousand Faces says, "This will protect you from the evil spirit of the Void Slime... even as we know that it is not the true enemy that makes war upon us.
"The author of all calamities on this island is Xygax the Wizard. We thought we could hide from him, but we were wrong. None are safe from his mad game as long as he lives."

Elsewhere, Connak and Finver stand at the threshold of the sacred temple.

Image

Finver watches the painted herd circle the walls around them as Connak steps back, counseling retreat.

Further west and south, Ko-Nan stands over the sleeping forms of Draupadi and Mungo. The mole-man talks in his sleep, imploring his gods for divine aid.

Meanwhile, Draupadi dreams that she is crossing the vast gulfs of space.

Image

In her dream, she is one with the Void Slime.

Maskelyn
Still semi- blissed out by the lights and his dip in the Star Pool, Maskelyn wanders back toward the others. When he sees Finver and Connack, he calls Hey, fellas! We found a cure!!

"A cure, eh?" Finver asks skeptically and then attempts a bit of humor with, "...does it include keepin' my arm? I've been attached ta it all my life, ya know. I'm not ready ta part with it just yet." Getting more serious in tone, the dwarf continues, "Ok, ya ya ya, so what do we do next? And, did ya see anyway we can get up ta tha surface ta find that fallin' star in that cavern? There's got ta be some way ta find a fallin' star around here, I'm sure of it.""

Connak shrugs... I guess it's worth a try. And yes, I would like to be in the open air.

Ko-Nan waits for the others. He overhears something about a cure which is good. It would be a liability in battle if he had to remove one or more arms from the others in the group.

Night. Friday, April 13th, 912 CY

Image

At the brink of the sacred cavern, Connak and Finver see Fiefo and Maskelyn emerge from the shadows unharmed, if disoriented.

Maskelyn talks of swimming but when he looks back whence he came, there is no sign of the blossoming universe at the top of the steps, nor the celestial pool, nor the astral goddess. He and Fiefo are bone dry.

Finver urges that they make their way to the surface to find the site of the star fall. Connak concurs, eager for fresh air.

Some hundred feet away, Ko-Nan takes first watch as Draupadi and Mungo sleep.

Draupadi dreams that she is one with the Slime Consciousness, crossing the void toward a strange new world to conquer.

Mungo enjoys some sleep. Eating and sleeping are his two main hobbies.

Ko-Nan sees the others sleeping and moves up the stairs to the west to see if anything remains to eat or to kill and eat.

Finver appears confounded by Maskelyn's talk of water pools and bathing cures when faced with no evidence of water nearby. With a tone of slight frustration, he shakes his head and points towards the northern cavern from where Fiefo and Maskelyn emerged, "Did ya check fer any secret passages or exits ta tha surface while ya were up there?"

"Well, I'm gonna check it myself. Sometimes, it takes a dwarf's eye ta spot something ya gnomes and ratmen may overlook. I'll be quick about it."

He heads north to examine the cavern, moving around the perimeter while carefully inspecting it for anything of interest:

Finver will use his Dwarven abilities to
  • Detect new construction or passage/tunnel = 75% probability
  • Detect sliding or shifting walls or rooms = 66 2/3% probability (d6, score 1-4)
  • Detect traps involving pits, falling blocks and
    other stonework = 50% probability (d4, score 1-2 or d6, score 1-3)
  • Determine approximate depth underground = 50% probability

Maskelyn
Maskelyn does a comical double take, then trots back to where the pool should be. He kneels down, tapping the floor with his knuckles.

Caveman Dwelling near the Starfall, Island of Xygax the Wizard, Land of One Thousand Towers
Night. Friday, April 13th, 912 CY

Finver enters the sacred cave and, amid the growing scent of incense, the stampeding herd painted on the walls writhes to life.

Image

Suddenly, his world is consumed by a maelstrom of color and light.

Image

Finver's perception awakens and expands and ascends beyond sanity.

Image

Behind him, Maskelyn reenters the scented cave and is overcome by a powerful urge to sleep. (Please roll CON or lower on 1d20 to act)

Meanwhile, Ko-Nan takes Mungo's lantern, descends the stone steps to the west, and discovers an underground river - the lost tribe's water source.

Mungo has a troubling dream. He somehow again has the strange gold bracelet they found in the Sleestak city. But instead of dropping him through a hole by a shore with sand worms, it send him back to moleman cleric school. Where he can't remember where is locker is. And when he finds it, he can't remember the combination to the lock. Uhnn... ::snort:: Ughg....
