What would YOU like to play or run? (Interest Catch-all)

I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.

Any interest in a Wild West game?
I very much enjoyed playing in Deadlands Reloaded ran by Stirling here using the Savage Worlds ruleset. Character generation was easy and unique and offered multiple themes. The combat was frantic and exciting, I would recommend that system.

You can tone down the 'weird west' stuff to shape a straight 'Western cowboys n injuns' theme. So that would be my recommendation.

I like the idea of a wild west game, but don't know if I can commit to it. What's the plot?

Addendum I just glanced at your Bushido game, and it looks like you put a lot of great detail into it. That's the sort of stuff I really like, though I'm not in your league for feudal Japan.

Thanks! I'll check out Deadlands Reloaded.

Leitz, I'm only able to put so much detail into the Bushido game because I've been a samurai history nerd since junior high. And lived in Japan for some years, back when people thought learning Japanese would make you rich. :) Coming up with homebrew is easier than for a fantasy or sci fi setting-- no imagination or creativity required. Just plug players into a real, ready-made world. (Shameless plug: The Bushido game is open to new players. No knowledge of samurai Japan needed, or time invested in learning the pretty crunchy (but pretty brilliant, IMO) Bushido RPG rules needed. We've got a good crew who's been learning the system together who'd be happy to coach).

Regarding the story-- the game will be really open sandbox. The PCs can go anywhere and do anything they want, at any time. There will encounters and short stories grabbed from from real historical events and old, old TV Western series. Here are the parameters of the sandbox.
-Cattle is king. Everybody knows cattle are dollars on the hoof. And everybody's income ultimately depends on cattle. From cattlemen to cowboys to barkeeps to churches to saloon girls to churches to judges to gamblers and to bounty hunters.
-A cattle business needs three things: lots of Land to graze on; daily drinking Water for horses, cow-handling cowboys (usually-- but not always-- in that order of priority); and Protection for the herd. For the cattlemen, all three are a problem. The problem with expanding operations into new Land grazing ground is the Comanche and Kiowa. For Water, the same. Or within the more settled areas, other cattlemen and their armed cowboys. Possibly backed up by hired outlaws/crazy murderous gunmen. For Protection, a cattleman has to has to rely on his foreman and cowboys to protect each head of cattle from coyotes, diamondback rattlers, cattle rustlers, Comanches and Kiowa raider, hornworm disease, any other kind of problem you might encounter while herding 500 head to the Dodge City, Kansas railhead to the Back East.
-Drunken cowboys and foremans (foremen?) getting drunk when they get there, and losing the whole goldurn herd to thieves while while the durn bunch of them are sleeping it off. Any apprehended outlaws or suspects will probably swing, before too long.
-The Comanches are the rulerw of the prairie. Nobody effes with the Comanches. Not even the other tribes.
-Pretty much all kinds of all kinds opportunity and crap for PCs. Cattle. money, guns, horses, tools.... All up to you :)

Talislanta? (4e)

We pick a region, some archetypes, and make some adventures.

Aint Ruby says, Shore, come on in and set down, OM! It's still daylite, I'll jist bring you a cuppa coffee. Try to mind the house rules, if you would. Cain ya read? She points to a paper nailed to the door.
Rules Of The House
1, No discharging fararms in the house. We just fexed the roof, and it cost more than a hunnard dollars in lumber brought all the way from Austin.
2, No spittin on the floor. Use a spittoon. If you caint find one, jist as' and we'll point you to one. If you have to share with another guest, don't fite about it.
3, Go outside for fitin.
4, If a fite breaks out inside and you caint take it outside, don't bust up the furniture or the windas. Either accidentally or intentionally, for use of busted parts as clubs or cuttin weapons. Use yer fists and boots or your knives and pistols. This rule will be strictly enforced enforsed.
5, Breakfast is at first light. If yer drunk and hungover and miss breakfast, you have to wait fer dinner at noontime. If'n you miss that too, you have to wait for supper at sundown. No excepcions exceptions. We got our own work to do, and it aint going to go away today jist because yer drunk.
6, Sundays mornins, all guests must git up, comb their hair, shave, and go to to the house of the Lord. If'n ye don't go to church, ye still got to shave and git out. The premises are CLOSED Sunday mornings until Sunday supper time. If'n you habichually wear a beard, ye can keep it. But you still have to comb yer hair. Combs are avalable at for 5 cents at Eziah Smoot's general store.
Welcome to Mrs. Ruby's Dining and Boarding House

I guarantee that you guys will not have to decipher that kind of dialect writing again. Unless you encounter Aint Ruby again. Or if you run into Uncle Earl. Unfortunately most Comanches and Kiowas have only heard that kind of English, so they tend to talk that way too.

We'll be using the Boot Hill system for the Western game. I plan to put up the game announcement by next weekend.

I may have to bite on Talislanta, though I'm not sure 4e would be my favorite to try. Well, maybe not do a caster (the free form magic just sounds painful to me).

I took it off, because i spotted that it had a free pdf of the rules book. I think linking to something like that is against US's TOS. You can google it though, there aren't many dedicated BH sites.

You could play a caster who just uses the pre-programmed spells in the book. There are several for each Order of magic.

I suppose that's a possibility. Let's see where we decide to start and who wants to play what...

Do we have a thread or game forum for this yet?

Do you know which method we will be using for generating characters?

If we can move our scores around I am thinking of a mixed blood native Scout/Surveyor. I am most familiar with the Metis from a historical standpoint and there were a couple of famous Metis Army scouts so that may be a workable backstory.

We'll be using Method 2 (roll and arrange the scores how you like). If anyone wants to do extreme RP, they can use Method 1 (roll and stick with what you the attribute rolls in the order rolled, shape your PC around that).

I hadn't heard of Metis people until now, but that sounds like a really interesting character.
