The thick airborne swarm fouls the explorers' aim and blinds their sight!

Cruloc, Dahinna, Kiri and Zahra cannot land a telling blow against the screeching maelstrom that lacerates their flesh! (3hp, 2hp, 1hp, and 3hp damage respectively)

As Amethu watches the pitch blackness behind them, Grigor and Torix loose arrows into the flailing torrent of wings, claws and fangs! The gypsy priest fells a gigantic bat, and the Pict savage grazes another!

The hound yaps and barks too, jumping to bite and tear at a fluttering critter than he can nibble. They tease him flying above his reach.

Zahra takes a breath to calm herself, watches the bats, and att [1d20+4]=4+4=8 ...misses again. She scowls and shakes her head.

The Cimmerian's sword brutally cleaves a giant bat in twain. Chiropteran guts burst, showering the frontline fighters with gore!

"Methinks the retreat shall be theirs, Pict!"

The adventurers hold their position in the shrilling, blinding chaos and try to weather the tempest of bats! The attacks of Dahinna, Torix and Zahra are ruined by the unrelenting cascade!

But two dead-eyed arrows from Grigor's bow fly into the heart of the storm, and the screeching airborne beast looming above Zahra crashes down to the stones! (B15)

With cruel arcs of sword and trident, Cruloc and Kiri cut two more giant creatures asunder mid-flight in a harvest of gore and blood! (B6, B12)



Behind them, Amethu bludgeons a natural-sized bat out of the air! At Grigor's urging, he and Dahinna raise lantern and torch, and the last two gigantic chiropterans descend upon them with rapacious claws and fangs! (1hp damage each)

In the swirling screeching bedlam, the raiders of lost Thracia dismember the last two gargantuan bats by sword, trident and arrow! In crimson heaps lay the mangled corpses of the giant chiropterans.

Their natural-sized kin still whirl in a blinding, deafening vortex of fear and confusion, but neither bite nor rend.
