Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Souta walks close behind Ha and Toshizo holding a chochin high to illuminate the cavern walls. She rests her other hand at the top of her obi wrapping her waste. Souta pauses as Toshizo nocks an arrow to his bow. What do you see Toshizo-san?

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Souta places the lantern to the side of the tunnel on a dry stone ledge and mentally readies herself. She pauses a moment and takes a deep breath out recalling the peril and pain she experienced outside the cave. She steadies herself and looks back down the tunnel they just walked through before peering into the chamber past Toshizo.
Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Ha and Toshizo are attacking, so we are entering Detailed Turns for combat. Souta can attack as well if she chooses (either first, or holding her action to go after Toshizo.)
Sorry, really busy week here. My update will probably wait for the weekend.

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Souta will hold action but I am also happy to make the looking back in the tunnel and around the larger chamber the first action
Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Hit Points | Power | Turn Order |
---|---|---|
Ha 30 / 41 Toshizo 24 / 24 Souta 19 / 19 Taka 0 / 9 (subdual, unconscious) Eiji 11 / 11 Jīva 10 / 10 |
Taka 0 / 38 Eiji 0 / 28 |
"Stop! Interlopers unwelcome!" demands the nasal, croaking voice of the bakemono-sho pair in ashigaru armor, spears pointed at you.
Jīva growls from the rear, hackles rising as he stands in front of Eiji, who holds Taka. Souta raises her chochin, further back, and asks, "What do you see Toshizo-san?"
"It's more bakemono-sho, Souta-san. Two of them," replies Toshizo as he lets loose an arrow from his bow. It pierces through the Ashigaru armor of the squat figure on the right, who then squeals in pain! (-7hp)
Ha steps forward immediately, sidestepping their spear thrusts and getting inside their reach, bringing around his katana two-handed with a mighty swing, which the bakemono-sho on the right mangages to duck.
Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Toshizo puts his right arm through his dai-kyu and slings it on his back, the string across his chest. He draws his katana and relaxes his mind and body, the way he was taught in the first days at dojo. He's determined not to make the same mistakes he made in his last use of the art of kenjutsu.

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
You're in detailed turn combat against the two bakemono-sho - you all need to post primary/secondary actions and rolls.
...looking at the Turn Order (in post above), the Bakemono go first. So I'll post their attacks then begin your turn on Phase 10. Post all your actions for the turn, then I'll adjudicate them and repeat.
The bakemono-sho fall back a step into the cavern, lengthening the distance between them and Ha such that they can use their spears. They stab at him fiercely, but his adept movement dodges easily, his sword parrying the second blow.

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Toshizo will hold his second action. But there's really nothing he can do with it, since the o-bake opened the range to too far for an attack with his katana.

Charge?

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Oh, I'm not sure I understand. Here's what Toshizo has done so far:
-Toshizo shot an arrow the first turn.
-The next turn, he did Exchange Weapons as a primary action. No good secondary action available for this situation.
-If we're on the third turn, he'll close to engage and attack the arrow-shot bakemono-sho with his katana.

ohhhh, thanks. Now I understand. I need everyoneelse for round two.
Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Eiji will set Taka down. I assume that will take his full turn. Next turn he can draw his shovel.

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
I'm going to assume Ha swings his sword and roll for him so this advances.
Round 1, Phase 6
The battle engaged, Souta draws her katana. At the rear, Eiji sets down Taka, ready to defend them both.
Round 2, Phase 12
The bakemono-sho fall back a step into the cavern, lengthening the distance between them and Ha such that they can use their spears. They stab at him fiercely, but his adept movement dodges easily, his sword parrying the second blow.
Round 2, Phase 10
Souta charges past Toshizo, running to join Ha in engaging the squat armored foes directly. Her sword swings wide.
Round 2, Phase 9
Toshizo puts his right arm through his dai-kyu and slings it on his back, the string across his chest. He draws his katana and relaxes his mind and body, the way he was taught in the first days at dojo. He's determined not to make the same mistakes he made in his last use of the art of kenjutsu.
Round 2, Phase 6
Eiji pulls the leather thongs, releasing his monk's spade, taking a tentative step forward as well to see what needs for defense are required from the warty bake.
Souta's blade comes around in a deft turn but again misses the wily bake.
Round 2, Phase 5
Focused on the now-singular bake before him with Souta drawing off the other, Ha brings around his blade in a fierce overhanded strike. The bake dodges to the side and the blade clangs on the stone floor.
Round 2, Phase 3
Round 3, Phase 12
Souta twists her grip, bringing her blade around in an expert parry as the bake moves to strike her. The bake fall back again, getting proper distance for their spears. The first stabs at Ha fiercely, a mere scratch for the mighty Warrior (-3). The second stabs at Souta as her blade parties to intercept - he drops his spear and sweeps the rear of her legs with a hard thwack! (-2) Unexpected, it knocks the unarmored woman off balance!
Light: Ha could hold a lantern and his sword one-handed, but he never specified he had a lantern. I need to know. Eiji doesn't have a lantern, needing both hands to carry Taka and now to wield his monk's spade. Toshizo does not have a lantern, having used his bow with two hands and now needed to wield his katana with two hands. Souta had a lantern - does she drop it to use her katana two-handed or accept a penalty for low STR in wielding the katana one-handed with the lantern?

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
I believe I wrote that Souta had placed her lantern to the side in the tunnel on the way into the chamber
Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Ah! Indeed you did.
I just need to hear about Ha's potential lantern and then actions for Ha, Toshizo, and Eiji.

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Toshizo runs toward the bakemono-sho on the left in the kind of shuffling, feet just above the ground kenjutsu run. He aims a katana strike at the arrow-wounded thing, hoping to finish it off.
The bake is far enough away that Toshizo has to Charge, rather than Close to Engage (+1 to 12 BCS, but bake gets +2 on its attack).
[1d20]=6 [1d6+2]=6+2=8
Second action, if it's still alive. Standard kenjutsu attack, BCS 12 / 2 = 6.
[1d20]=19

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
I don't think Eiji can get into the action soon enough but he will advance, keeping his shovel in a defensive hold, ready should a Bakemono break through the bushi to threaten Taka.

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Souta lies winded on her back hoping that bakemono have a limited population in Nippon.
