What would you like to play/run? (Interest Catch-all)

We're putting together a holiday season Star Trek in Traveller game. Need one more firm commitment to launch. More is better.

I’ve been nervously toying with the idea of running DCC. It’s a game I’ve always have had such incredible fun playing but this would be the first time for me running this system in particular. I would be using either a published adventure or just making something up and winging it (so yeah, a published adventure ;-p ). Requirements from any fooli…err, prospective players would be an insane amount of patience and understanding.

Here’s where I’m asking for feedback (be gentle please).

We’ve had DCC games here that have worked well. I think Norjax is running one right now. You might want to PM him and ask about it too. The think about play by post is in. Some ways it’s easier to DM and some ways harder. It’s funny you have more time to prep for the game because the posting rate is a slower pace than being in a real game. But you are always “on” when DMing play by post - so it’s like you have less time. :) Instead of prepping for one big in person game, you are continuously prepping for smaller games several times a week.

But the thing about players here are that they are super supportive. As long as you are up front with what you are doing and how you want to do it, they’ll help you get there. :)
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Man I could really dig some B/X or BECMI right now. Just a series of dungeon crawls would be fun.

How about some 1-bit-dungn?

Hi lich_queen,

My advice is to play in a few PbP games before you run one.

And that these threads have good advice:

viewtopic.php?f=32&t=859

viewtopic.php?f=40&t=10205&start=20

The first one is about how to get started. The second one gets into how to avoid an early end.

Good luck!

Maybe a bit too light. :D Maybe it's nostalgia, but I kind of long for the experience of actually playing B/X or BECMI (particularly the "BE" portion...maybe even just "B").

You're welcome to join my 'Dave's OSE Adventures (OSE)' game (which is a true BX equivalent).

The game is in a transition right now so it's a perfect time.

Anyone interested in some Dark Sun type game?

Specifically, I'd like to use these rules to play through the Freedom module.

@tibbius, That's an amazingly simple system. I would be interested but I'm unfortunately at my game capacity with my real life brood of goblins and quests to go on. I hope this doesn't sound patronizing to you or unusual for role playing games but I would ask you to invite me as a spectator just to follow how the game plays out.

I was thinking the Freedom module could be fun to play with those. I updated the rules a little (just to make magic a little more defile-y).

I’m seriously at the point where I want to try my hand at running some DCC, either a funnel followed by an intro adventure or using DCC Lankhmar, obviously without a funnel.

If this is what you're talking about:

I clearly own the rules, but I almost certainly have never even looked at it. If I did, I remember nothing about it.

I could probably be convinced to give it a try assuming the expected posting rate won't be too excessive.

Greetings, lich_queen! I've run a couple of DCC 0-level funnels on this board. The first one ran out of steam but the second one had a successful finish. Most of the players in both runs were new to DCC.

Since you are new to PbP, I would recommend you browsing through the game threads. Note the size of the dungeon, the posting rates, and the duration of the game - One Year. Hopefully, this will give you some insight on the nature and challenges of running a PbP game.

The Burial Lair of Koboldi-Karn

Feel free to ask any questions and best of luck with your game! :)

As one of my games is finishing up, I am considering what to do next. I'm leaning toward some old-school 1E/2E action in Greyhawk. My current 2E game is along the northern shore of the Nyr Dyv in Furyondy. The Cairn Hills are close as are the Shield Lands of Iuz.
However, there are many opportunities for gaming in Keoland, Geoff, and even the Irongate region.
If you were able to return to Greyhawk, where would you want to play?
