Indrani follows up with the Navy for a tug to get them back to a safe docking bay. If no tug is available, she will work to bring the ship back under control.

The Navy ask if the ship is declared to be not under control and to be towed as salvage?
Re: Chapter Nine: Year 300, 6th Day
Indrani sighs heavily. "We're not salvage yet, but we are heavily damaged at the moment. Are you able to help us dock?"BackworldTraveller wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 6:01 pm The Navy ask if the ship is declared to be not under control and to be towed as salvage?

Hi - What help do you need?
I do seriously suggest you read up on the laws of Salvage before answering this. (Previous naval interventions were part of "Official Duty" and thus Salvage would not apply.) If you can be considered "in danger", then accepting their help will be an implied salvage contract unless you nail the terms very carefully...Maggie and Noor both have the Advocate skills to potentially tiptoe around this!

I do not like this. It could only be stealing data, if we are lucky, or it could be a remote control. Whatever it is, I want it off the Queen.by BackworldTraveller » Wed Sep 15, 2021 9:04 am
The electronics experts quite quickly get the power restored to the network. The post-restart checks though show something odd...There seems to be an attachment to the main data feed into the computer. It's got its own power supply and definitely isn't something Nālani or Pranit recognise as being part of the normal circuitry...
Nālani starts to search for the device and a way to remove or isolate it.
If Nālani hears this she will express a strong inclination to do everything short of involving others. Especially the Navy.BackworldTraveller wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 10:09 pm Hi - What help do you need?

Hiring a tug to be on standby in case we foul things up and are about to crash expensively, perhaps.

Re: Chapter Nine: Year 300, 6th Day
It will be too late for them to help us if we do it that way. A tow bill is a lot cheaper than punching another hole in the station. The Bindoner wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 11:03 pmHiring a tug to be on standby in case we foul things up and are about to crash expensively, perhaps.[/ooc]

Right, a bill. Hire help, don't ask for it. Especially not from the Navy. A standby tug is a contractor with no rights to salvage, so long as they are acting under contract to us while manoeuvring our ship. The Navy/Port can just claim we were unable to control our vessel and posed a danger, entitling them to claim salvage.joertexas wrote: ↑Thu Sep 16, 2021 12:28 amIt will be too late for them to help us if we do it that way. "We need to hire a tug to help us dock," Indrani replies.

Noor
Noor hears the commotion over the unknown network part and gets involved. "Wait! We know that something isn't right with the Queen, even before all this raider crap. I want to try to identify and understand any unusual parts before we remove them." She calls for Assana. "Could you come take a look at this? What do you make of it?"
Noor will try to prevent anyone from using brute force to deal with the anomaly. "Please, Nālani. Wait a minute. Remember that whole VR system we ran into earlier? The Queen still has secrets, and I'd like to discover them. This thing may play a part."
Once the situation is settled, she'll talk with the Captain about getting some legal help.

Pranit would say: "We are not removing it, until we understand it or a expert says it ok. And no one touch it, fingerprints."
Also: "I agree with the tub boss, we should call the port and ask where we can dock."

You make sense. I will locate it, but then I will leave it. For later.by ateno » Thu Sep 16, 2021 5:59 pm

Nālani moves from the damaged panel to the pilot's station, settles in to the familiar seat, and activates the console. Checking readouts she reports: Good, it is working. Flight controls online. I've got Radar. Ah. Only one camera is feeding, and it is looking sideways. Actually, that is one better than I expected. Perhaps a walk outside to bend it back into a useful orientation? Then I think I will be able to fly reasonably well.
Re: Chapter Nine: Year 300, 6th Day
Indrani keys her comm. "Are you receiving the station's navigation beacons, and can we navigate with them?" Radar was all well and good - but it was also dangerous to use this close to the station. She headed for the bridge. "Reven, are you available to man the engineering station again, just in case?"The Bindoner wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 10:03 pm Nālani moves from the damaged panel to the pilot's station, settles in to the familiar seat, and activates the console. I can go on the skin and play lookout captain. I could bend the camera and look for leftovers.

"I doubt the port will thank us for trying to use visual navigation. If we can receive the beacons, that will give us the precision guidance we need. Still, if you can get some cameras operating again, that would be helpful. We've scattered debris everywhere."

Reven Stiilpahth "On it, Captain. Sorry, XO. I'll come back once we've docked." Reven leaves his toolkit and rushes back down to engineering, making sure he has his gun first.joertexas wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 12:40 am Indrani keys her comm. Pranit will grab a general mechanic tool kit and head to the skin. Heading to where each camera was and seeing what he can do. Heading to the sideways facing one first and face it foreward.
Also doing a visual inspection of the skin on the way.
Re: Chapter Nine: Year 300, 6th Day
"Hey crewmen, this is Pranit, the one camera should be facing ,mostly foreword, its hooked on with sealant, no more that a gee or so.
All other cameras gone, along with our paint, Our comms array is standing with no damage. Nothing left on the skin, I will be working on the hole and access to the bridge, fixing the temp patch on the inside.
