Iago Vazquez de Quesada

Irrepressible as ever, Iago's teeth gleam white in the predawn half-light as a rogue's grin creeps across his lips. "Well..." he says quietly, "if scalps bouncing upon that impressive ass don't suit you, might a thieving Zingaran?" Despite his playful demeanor, the former pirate turned land-lubber keeps a sharp eye out and steps with care.

"I'm for resting. We can't fight half-dead from fatigue. Or I can't."

Zahra
Seeing that the others are making camp, Zahra will find a halfway comfortable spot for her bedroll. I will take a watch whenever it works best. Just let me know.

Dahinna

The Zamoran rogue chuckles...as she scratches her eyebrow with her middle finger. Then she stands on her tiptoes and whispers to Iago...
Iago:
"Do you know any thieving Zingarans worthy of this ass?"
She steps back, winks, and begins to walk away, "Cause if you do, I just might be interested."
She finds a place to get some rest when the time comes, slightly off the trail.
Winter is coming...

Somewhere in the Pictish Wilderness, the World of Hyboria
Day Three. Dawn. 13th day of the month of Qrot, 1280th year of the Age of Aquilonia
Clear, cool

Image

After that dawn, the adventurers travel for days across a wilderness untamed and primeval, over a forested ridge that affords them a view into a boundless expanse of inconceivable endlessness.

The vast scale of the land dwarfs them, never more so than at night,...

Image

...beneath the immense bowl of infinite stars that shows them their humble place within creation.

Days pass like this and time and space begin to lose all meaning; quietly yawning out before them, patient, uncaring and relentless. This must be how the Picts experience reality.

Each morning the priests pray and heal their companions. Each day they dare not hunt game for fear the fire would alert the war party that hunts them. Each night, from a defensive position they hear the distant drums of the Picts, growing fainter with every sunset. They locate fresh water and on the fifth afternoon of their trek, they find at last some sign of their elusive quarry.

Image

Deep in a realm of barbarism and savagery, the adventurers now stand surrounded by evidence of a vanished civilization. Broken columns glimmer among the trees, the straggling lines of crumbling walls meander off into the overgrown foliage, and under their feet are broad paves, cracked and bowed by roots spreading wide beneath.

The explorers follow the ancient stone road, shattered and reclaimed by nature, into a clearing that holds a great, deep canyon. Within, to their astonishment lies what could only be that which the Picts call the Forbidden City of the Dead, and what they believe to be Thracia, the lost colony of Atlantis!

Grigor

Over the five day trek, the gypsy priest tries to invoke the divine powers in various rituals and ceremonies. Blessing his comrades in need and ministering to their souls and bodies with 'cultural appropriations' such as:

Making a healing loam of spit and crushed red berries and tracing an Ankh sign on the forehead:
Grigor invokes Cure Light Wounds [1d8]=5

Sprinkling the blood of a sacrificial dove (hunted and well chewed by Gnasher), with a bloom of hyssop upon 'the hands that shed blood':
Grigor invokes Cure Light Wounds [1d8]=2

A strike across the back with his horseshoe belt in healing flagellation for the mostly unrepentant sinner in need of mercy:
Grigor invokes Cure Light Wounds [1d8]=1

Anointing the bare feet of 'the pilgrim' with some wine from his goatskin:
Grigor invokes Cure Light Wounds [1d8]=2

The pluralistic theology he upholds means a lot of his prayers are said 'in good faith' but he is never sure just how much faith he has. It looks like just Cruloc and Iago need healing during the time. You could take +5hp each.

Arriving at the ruins, the gypsy marvels and bows low to the ground, touching his forehead to the earth and giving thanks. He commends Amethu also for guiding us unerringly.

Dahinna

Five days! And the Zamoran rogue wonders if they will ever reach their destination...or is it all some Pictish myth? Upon seeing the columns and then the city revealed, she can only stare wide-eyed in wonder. "By the gods! The city does exist!" she whispers reverently, as if coming upon something sacred, something human eyes likely haven't seen in ages. She stands close to Iago, having flirted with him mercilessly during the trek. Without thinking she reaches for his hand...
"Have you ever seen anything like this before?"
Winter is coming...

Iago Vazquez de Quesada

Iago happily accepts the healing energy directed at him. He feels certain that it will be much needed in the trials ahead.

He finds himself trekking near Dahinna for a large portion of the journey, splitting his attention between playful banter with the rogue and seeking threats in the trees to either side.

When they finally espy signs of their destination, he is immediately struck with a sense of childlike wonder. His eyes widen and Iago realizes he's been holding his breath. And his hand. Wait--no. Someone else is holding his hand.

"Never," the pirate whispers in an equally awestruck tone, finally exhaling. "What manner of men could build such a place?" He blinks and glances behind them. "Those scalps have dried nicely, by the way."

Amethu stares quietly at the valley. Unbelievable. "Is this actually a remnant of that ancient city - which holds yet more ancient histories of Verulia?"

He continues to reflect upon the sight before him. His thoughts linger to the practical once again - what is the next step? He scrutinizes what he sees for some clue of life within. Some clue of movement or some possible ruin that could indicate a library or ancient repository of knowledge.

The next chapter in the quest is at hand...

Cruloc

Demolished. Devastated. Pulverised. Decimated.

If Cruloc knew these words, he would use them to describe the razed ruin of the Forbidden City splayed at his feet. The jagged columns and tumbling walls are the broken teeth of an old whore whose cumulate sins have been paid for with a pitiless beating.

He nods in grim satisfaction. Though intractable enemies, the same contempt for civilisation plainly burns in the hearts of Picts and Cimmerians alike, for the tree-dwelling savages had eons ago evidently overthrown and brought this hubristic cesspit to its knees. This had been their Venarium. A tinge of admiration for them finds foothold in his barbaric soul.

"The next Pict I butcher," he decrees, "will keep his lips."

"It is real," says Kiri, regarding the ancient expanse of city before them. "Er, I never doubted it."

"So... where do they keep the ancient scrolls, do you think?" he says.

Amethu

Adding some CLW for the previous 5 days of travel if needed. I assume we are now fully rested and spells restored?

Zahra
Zahra spends her days helping her swordbrothers and sister as best she can.
When they break through to the cliff edge, she stands and stares at the city. She takes her time, looking for the tallest and most ornate buildings. IF she spots something that strikes her as a likely temple or 'king's mansion', she'll be certain to point it out to the others.
