Re: Chapter Two: Queen of the Belt
Pranit makes his way from the bridge to the lift and has to override the lockdown to get through. The lift is now dimly lit and after latching the hatch in the floor it moves down to the Crew Deck - and the door-lock has, again to be overridden. Moving out of the lift you can see why the door to the captains cabin hasn't closed - one of the chairs from the broken table is caught in it. There is no sign of smoke or flames. Peering carefully through the gap, you can see no indication of any problem what so ever. It's still a mess but no different to when briefly inspected earlier.
Re: Chapter Two: Queen of the Belt
Tiberiusbut the Surveyor remains - He asks Tiberius "What is your Captain doing? The Lieutenant will be sorting a boarding order from the Harbour Master and this will all start again when that arrives. All she's doing is making him annoyed."
And with that he produces a flask and offers Tiberius what smells like hot chocolate.
"I was quite looking forward to going over the old girl again"
Accepts a mug of hot chocolate, chinking the mug of the surveyor and whispers in his ears. He drinks his beverage and signals Ngora over.
"Ngora here is considering an apprenticeship with Sabah Media. Ex-Captains daughter. Ngora take some photos and make sure you interview the harbour master if he appears"

What are you doing here Jinja? Didn't you cause enough trouble before?

"Ah our chief engineer has arrived. Shame you didn't come earlier when the Captain closed the meeting. Your expertise would be most welcome back in the engine room."
He greets the former crewman.

And It's lovely to meet you too Ms Celisse.
Look, I'm here to confirm the vessel is safe enough for the police to enter, and no more than that.
Sorry, I didn't catch your name. I have no interest in an argument with Ms Celisse - and that phase of my life is over: I have a family and a steady job here. I've nursed that engine for too long and I'm happy to give its quirks to another...
He is clearly looking for the right word

"If you want to enter you will need to suit up and get the Captains permission Mr Busai? I don't think the chief wardens would consider armed boarding actions neccessary. Surely all that smuggling and piracy is behind you?" he says, finishing his drink and handing the mug back.
"There was a very clear order from Captain Carter that no further egress should be allowed until safety could be confirmed.
There is no hurry is there. Ship ain't flying today."

So the 'vaguely familiar guy' is Jinga Busai and he has a forensics dept' cop with him. Both want access to the ship. The police seem to be going a bit nuts. Some new guy (who looks vaguely familiar - EDU roll please) has shown up and is getting dressed into a Vacc Suit, as is another forensic officer.

Indrani broadcast her warning on the bay's PA system, too...BackworldTraveller wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 9:27 am Tiberius
The sound of the emergency lockdown warning can be faintly heard from inside the vessel. Your surveyor colleague looks at you...
"What the heck's going on in there? Aren't they only supposed to be checking the environment's sound."

Re: Chapter Two: Queen of the Belt
Indrani starts the emergency life support system, and sets the initial temperature to just above freezing. She then unlocks all the lift shaft doors, doublechecks that the lift is still powered down, and goes to check on Reven. "Reven, are you okay?"BackworldTraveller wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 9:04 am Indrani
Reven followed Pranit into the shaft in his emergency suit...and he isn't with him as he said he was coming your way...and if he'd fallen in the shaft you'd have heard that. The emergency suit has no radio transmitter except an emergency beacon, and while he had his phone, did anyone get his number?
Sorry about that

She then looks at the cop. "I'm warming the interior up, and I'll have the lift working in a few minutes, and we will know what compartments can't be accessed. Then, you can move around the ship."
Joe Roberts (JR)
Re: Chapter Two: Queen of the Belt
Pranit heads for the bridge carefully, putting away the fire equipment.
"I'm at the bridge, at the foreward station, I think I can monitor everything from here. Ready when you are.

Re: Chapter Two: Queen of the Belt
Indrani returns to the main console and goes through the Number One (port side) power bus output, selecting only the environmental system, the engineering panel, and bridge power from the list of items to energize. She then steps over to the breaker panel and energizes the correct breaker. "Okay, you should have bridge displays and the Number One power bus online. Let's leave the other systems powered down until we can inspect them. Telemetry is still on emergency power."

Port-side circuit breaker trips almost immediately.
(Indrani recalls that the port side breakers were already pulled when she arrived see here)

Re: Chapter Two: Queen of the Belt
Alrighty then, Indrani mutters to herself. "Pranit, there's a fault in the Number One power bus. I'm resetting and trying the Number Two bus." She repeats the process of isolating everything but life support, engineering, and the bridge controls, and then she energizes the starboard breakers.BackworldTraveller wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 9:52 am Port-side circuit breaker trips almost immediately.

Oh the joys of pedantry!
The power comes on and the life-support systems come to life...with the wail of alarms as the systems realise the extent of the problems with the atmosphere. Almost instantly, the frost starts to sublime in front of the ventilators and the air-pressure starts to slowly climb. However, it's going to take a while for the place to actually feel warm as the metal of the hull positively sucks heat out of the air as fast as the heaters add it.
Reven
The heaters have turned on...You can warm you hands and feet and suit by standing close - or partly opening the suit to allow the warmth in directly!

The price of pedantry is eternal vigilance
Re: Chapter Two: Queen of the Belt
Well, this level of detail seems appropriate as we work to get the ship started up again. Afterwards, well, I'll passBackworldTraveller wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 4:13 pm Oh the joys of pedantry!

Indrani presses the Master Caution control to silence the alarms without actually dismissing them. She has enough to do without the ship yelling in her ear as she works. While she awaits Pranit's report from the bridge, she starts diagnostics on the fuel system and the Number One power bus. She also brings up a ship's schematic to fully display air pressure, door and hatch status (open, closed) and temperature in every compartment.
Lastly, if Reven is clear of the lift, she keys the ship's broadcast comm. "Everyone, stand clear of the lift. I'm powering the lift car and the doors." She waits for thirty seconds, and then she powers up the lift system.

Pranit replies "I see no new danger or yellow or red here, heats coming up and no sparking.
Give it a few and next step I think."

"When you can get loose, please see to the police officers, and whomever is actually useful to us, as they come aboard," Indrani says to Pranit. "I'm stuck here with the power distribution system and the pressurization."
