Re: Quest #28 "Kegenstien's Expedition Over the River"
Elnaerel feels more a bit encouraged by how the odds seem to be turning on their favor, as far as she can see. She will try and whack the ogre she's fighting with her morningstar.
Morning Star - To hit [1d20] = 12; Dmg S/M [2d4] = 3 L [1d6+1] = 1+1 = 2

I've not died. Just stupid busy. Working on a post in just a few!
Re: Quest #28 "Kegenstien's Expedition Over the River"
Keyon
The rogue's eyes widen at Feanol's suggestion. Just the thought of being that close to such an enormous mound of muscle and hatred gives him hives. "Bloodthirsty bird, aren't ya?" Keyon mutters. He slips ahead, longsword drawn, and steels himself to strike a blow at the ogre's neck. After all, a pretty lady's watching--musn't falter now.
Honestly, I'm fuzzy on how backstabbing works in 1e. The phb mentions +4 to hit if you have surprise, and I figured a sleeping enemy is definitely surprised. Maybe?
With my +1 to hit for being an elf to make +5. And double weapon damage if I hit, right? I read that section of the phb, but wanted to be sure I read it correctly. I'm tired and my eyes are crossing.
To-Hit: [1d20 + 5] = 8+5 = 13, S/M: [1d8] = 1, L: [1d12] = 4

Re: Quest #28 "Kegenstien's Expedition Over the River"
I will answer that before I write my update.
If this were an actual Backstab situation, you would be correct. +4 to hit would be added to any other bonuses, and damage at this point would be 2x the number rolled.
However, since the ogre is asleep, and can be slain automatically according to the spell description, there is no need to make a to hit roll in this situation.
I hope that helps.

Re: Quest #28 "Kegenstien's Expedition Over the River"
Blood Yellow
Moonday, 22nd of Goodmonth
Mid Afternoon, Sunny, Hot, Humid, Buggy
TK gets low to the ground as he pulls away from the yellow ogre with the accurate punch, crawling along the jungle floor, looking for obstacles that might slow down his much, much larger foe. This strategy seems to work, at least initially, as the gnome finds downed logs and large tree roots to scurry through and around, foiling the ogres ability to catch the tiny tasty morsel. Though neither can actually run, or even walk very well through the thick foliage unhindered, the vast undergrowth equalizes their ability to move through it quickly. Though he is now all alone and being chased by an angry monster, at least he is leading the beast away from the others who are now facing two of them. (Sorry for the confusion on direction. I added the North indicator to the map.)
Keg and Elnaerel continue attacking the non sleeping ogre in front of them, while Darklin also rushes in to join them from a flanking position. Keg nearly falls on his butt after his swing, the huge ogre merely bats away the attempt from the elven priestess, but the spellsword's side blow is able to penetrate the thick hide of the ogre, nicking him slightly. The beast roars in anger, but then starts to cough violently, wisps of smoke actually escaping the brutes lungs and mouth as he exasperates. Its bloodshot eyes fixate on Keg as he connects with a weakened punch that doesn't hurt the huge Viking very badly. 3 dam
Feanol convinces the nervous Keyon that he needs to move in and kill the sleeping ogre quickly while he has the chance. Though reluctant at first, the elf cant help but do what he is told by the fairer sex. He slinks in and skewers the beast through his thick neck, essentially killing the monster outright while the one nearby fights for its life.

Darklin
He attacks again same one.
[1d20+2] = 17+2 = 19 Long Sword
[1d12+1] = 4+1 = 5 Long Sword Damage
He draws a dagger in his off hand for next round.

Getting smacked only heightens his battle lust as he moves forward again and takes another swing at the ogre. THAT ALL YOU GOT?!
Long Sword [1d20+1] = 5+1 = 6 S DMG: [1d8+3] = 6+3 = 9 L DMG: [1d12+3] = 10+3 = 13
this is the point I think the d20 would have a date with the microwave

Elnaerel
The elfin cleric swims her morningstar at the ogre again, in the hopes that, this time, the hit will land.
Morning Star - To hit [1d20] = 6; Dmg S/M [2d4] = 6 L [1d6+1] = 4+1 = 5
Oh, man!
She starts to worry about The Knife, who hasn't make an appearance yet after his scouting ahead.

Re: Quest #28 "Kegenstien's Expedition Over the River"
The Knife
The Knife realizes he can't keep running directly away from his friends. With the ogre stomping only a few feet behind him, a desperate idea pops into his brain.
He runs towards the thickest tree trunk he can see, then ducks around it. In the brief moment he's out of sight, The Knife flings his pack away into the undergrowth. He throws it in the direction he'd been previously moving, trying to make the ogre believe that he was continuing to flee in a straight line.
Without waiting to see if the trick works, he starts moving towards the clearing where the ogres had been camping.

The young mage having cast her spell stays in the back daggers ready to throw if the beast gets closer. She smiles when Keyon has taken care of the one she took down.

Keyon
The rogue will quickly search the body of his victim and check him for piercings or jewelry or anything else valuable, which he will pocket if found. He then works his way behind the remaining ogre, though remaining out of range of a wild swing, in the hopes of surprising the foe in moments to come.

Blood Yellow
Moonday, 22nd of Goodmonth
Mid Afternoon, Sunny, Hot, Humid, Buggy
The combat with the angry ogre rages, with Darklin carving another wound into the beast before drawing his dagger. Keg shouts at the yellow skinned monster, but his bark proves worse than his bite. He is able to duck another viscous side punch from the huge brute, though.
Keyon finds nothing of value on the ogre that Feanol ensorcelled, though the beast stinks badly of stale smoke and burnt plant material, and it’s cold dead eyes are badly bloodshot.
The Knife darts behind a large tree and tosses his pack into the bush ahead before crawling away again in the direction of the ogres clearing. If his ears serve him, it seems like his ruse might have worked, buying him a few more moments head start once the dumb beast figures out what happened.

Keyon
If the elf has proven successful in maneuvering quietly behind the beast without alerting it to his presence, he will spring forward and bury his longsword in the ogre's middle.
To Hit: [1d20 + 5] = 3+5 = 8, Damage: [1d12 + 1] = 4+1 = 5
Or...roll awfully and NOT succeed in his attempt.

Silly question time: is the bit where it says "Clearing", the actual clearing? Or is that off the map? (Sorry, the arrow for North has me a bit confused. It's "I'm down to 1hp!
" paranoia. )

She stands watching as the battle unfolds daggers at the ready. With the beast engaged in melee a bit from her she will look around behind her to watch for signs of anything or anyone else joining the battle.
