Andronichishche

Andronichishche slowly rubs his chin, deep in thought. "The wizard obviously intended this tunnel to be found." He points to the sign mounted next to the double doors.
Congratulations seekers of knowledge! For you alone have solved the puzzle of the Medusa’s treasure and are now the rightful owners of her many magical wonders. Insert the proper key to claim your rewards.
He continues speaking, as much to himself as to his companions, "Seekers of knowledge. An odd phrase to use. What knowledge?"

Andron glances down at his left hand and removes the magical golden ring he is wearing. "The kobolds had taken five of the objects on the pedestals. Two were missing. A small cube ... and a ring." He holds the ring up to examine it again. "If what Mr. Gramble used was indeed the Chime of Serpent's Desire, this must be the Band of Fools."

He changes tone to that of one analyzing a crime scene. "I found the ring in the junk room, along with a large brass key that appears to fit the keyhole. Now, we know from his writing, Marquees was enraged and grief stricken by the death of Melania. I had thought his erratic behavior and that horrible smile and laughter was due to insanity. However, such behavior could also be ascribed to a Fool. That may be the effect of wearing this ring. If so, I had fortunately resisted it."

He carefully places the ring into a belt pouch and retrieves a huge brass key from his pack. "The doors were open to the kobolds. I suspect this is not the proper key and was used by Melania or Marquees to open that false vault. The wizard did warn her not to try using them against him." He shrugs. "Only one way to find out."

Andron pivots to face the doors, but then raises an index finger as he remembers something else. He turns back around and procures a large copper cube from his pack. The same that was found in the junk room. Upon closer examination they learned it wasn't a solid cube, but more like a large copper sheet folded on itself many times. He hands it to Gramble. "Mr. Gramble, would you be so kind as to attempt to unfold this?"

He then pulls an old and heavily used book from his pack and hands it to Lerrick. "Miss Lerrick, I did not have the opportunity to ask you earlier about this book. It appears to be a very old hymnal to Pelor. What can you tell me about it? I found it in the junk room. An odd book for a medusa to have, I think."

Finally, he turns about again and walks back to the double doors. He carefully closes them and inserts the brass key into the keyhole. He will try turning it, if able, then proceed to open the doors and peer inside.

I will give you this while we wait....

Gramble unfolds the many flexible layers of the square hunk of copper, flattening it out on the floor of the hallway to reveal one large sheet of the soft metal.

Etched upon the surface of the flattened sheet are the visages of a male and a female humanoid, very likely the wedded pair of Melania and Marquees, and likely from a better place in time. There are no symbols or writing of any kind adorning the 2 pictographs.

Treasure Room
Sunday, 21st of Goodmonth
Early Morning?

I thought the hymnal was already given to Lerrick, but I could be wrong.

Looking at the very old book of songs and prayers dedicated to the worship of Pelor, Lerrick finds it strange that Andron would have found such a thing. It isn't exactly a common item for an evil monster to keep around. Other than being an antique, the priestess doesn't find anything special about it. There is a faded number on the spine, indicating that there were likely more than one of them made. Perhaps there is a temple or church nearby?

Gramble grows tired of Alordans complaining, so he moves over and flips the immobile ranger over onto his stomach with his boot. This action seems to do the trick, as Alordan immediately stops talking, and instead starts puking up all the food he just stuffed into his pie hole for the last several minutes. After barfing for almost an entire minute, the ranger licks his lips and gets right back to eating. :?

Maag sees and smells the incident from a distance. Suddenly unable to do anything else, the huge half-orc turns even greener, his mouth suddenly tasting very salty before he also starts spraying projectile vomit against one wall. He tries not to shower his friends too bad, but the sheer amount of partially digested stomach contents are difficult to contain, especially in this kind of volume. Streams of puke drip slowly down the stone wall, making the already unbearable stench in this hallway even worse.

Andronichishche takes off his newly found golden ring with no ill effect, placing it in his pouch before retrieving the oddly large brass key he found near the ring upstairs. He pontificates about the missing tiny cube, wondering where such a small item might have gone, before closing the treasure room doors and trying to open them again with his key. Fitting perfectly into the exaggerated keyhole, the doors magically open again as soon as the key is inserted. Looking inside the room again, it remains empty, just as it was when he closed the doors.

Actions?

Lerrick 10/11 1/4 1st (Light stone 40'r)
Gramble 14/16
Alordan 18/18 (Restrained) (Light stone 40'r)

Notes and other Bookkeeping:
Melania
You have been warned several times now about your unwillingness to remain in your designated location. Since you cannot control your desire to destroy my hard earned collection by turning them into useless statuary, you leave me little other choice but to relocate you somewhere safer.
Melaina
I have decided on a far more suitable spot for you to reside. There is a cave complex on the other side of the island that will suit your needs perfectly. It is an old experiment of mine, that never panned out the way that I had hoped. But there is a fresh water source inside and a magical summoning device of my own creation that should provide you with an endless supply of food. You will be relocated there as soon as I get it ready. I am still working on filling your request for companionship. As I told you before, they are extremely rare and nearly impossible to locate.
Melania
I understand you are not happy with your new accommodations, but it is simply the best I can do for now. I think you will be much more at ease living here once I am able to fill your request for a mate. The reoccurring minotaur should provide you plenty of food and enough sport to keep you preoccupied while I search. Please remember that your captor was also once your savior, and that you wouldn’t be here right now if it weren’t for me. I know this isn’t an easy adjustment for you, but it must be preferable to the horrible death you would have endured without my aid.
Melania
At long last, after several years of searching and burning through countless resources, I have finally found what you seek the most. An unmatched Maedar, one of the rarest of all creatures known to man. And he is all for you. I sincerely hope this will suffice to keep you happy for the rest of your years here. You must stop meddling in my experiments. You of all people should know they can be very dangerous, especially when they are unfinished. Once I have checked him over for myself, I will release him to you. Once that is done, I must insist that you stay put in your area and stop breaking your containment. By the way, his name is Marquees, and he is magnificent.
Melania
Once again you need to learn the hard way that you are no match for my powers. It saddens me greatly that after everything I’ve done to make you happy, you continue to defy me, routinely breaking your pact without remorse. I thought you to be one of the more intelligent of your kind, but you have proven to me that I was mistaken. Since I have invested so much, I will give you one last chance to comply. However, you will now be marked. Breaking the rules of your containment again will result in your termination.
Melania
This last attempt at wreaking havoc on my experiments was all I can take. I have warned you multiple times now and you simply wont listen. Therefore, you have left me no other choice. I cannot allow you or anyone else here to undermine my work as you have. I know you were never really happy here, but with the amount of monies, time, sacrifice, and effort I have put into this place already, finishing my ultimate creation must continue to be my main focus. I will allow Marquees to remain on the island, since he has done nothing that I know of to aid you in your constant meddling. The treasures you were supposed to protect for me will also remain inside the complex, now under the supervision of your lover. However, the next time you see me will be the last. I wish things could have worked out better, but you have only yourself to blame for this outcome.

Marquees

I know you like this place, but I am not about to spend the rest of my days preforming for this pompous bastard. We are getting out of here, and I think I finally figured out how. The ring of glass obelisks have something to do with the mobility of this place, so through them, there must be a way out. I know the colored stone spheres are the keys, all I need to do is figure out how they function. There must be a way to use the spheres to activate the obelisks, since the ones I have investigated don’t seem to do anything yet. Once I can figure out their secrets, I am hoping we will be able to go anywhere we want. I know you want to concentrate on making more eggs and raising new babies, but you cant expect me to be happy about bringing more of our kind into existence while we are all being held here against our will. We must find a way out! We can discuss this further once I've returned.
scrollcase note:
I have used the magic scrolls to find three of them so far. They are a sight to behold, so tall and crystal clear. One is in the jungle near the black cliffs, a second deep in the swamp, and the third by the lake to the northwest. I promise you that I will figure out what they do and how they function. Once I do, we will be free again.
note about the contacts:
Marquees

My love, I know you don't like wearing the contacts, but their use will be quintessential in making our eventual escape from this place. The wizard doesn't know about them, so it is imperative that we keep them secret for now. Please continue to wear them when you can, since they have no affect on us or our young. You must try to get accustomed to them so they can be used to their utmost effectiveness against our foes once the time comes.

It is important that you keep them wet when you are not wearing them. The case is filled with a salty solution of mannish extract and fairy tears, which should keep them crystal clear and usable forever, so take caution not to spill any of it. Since they will allow both you and I to turn our enemies to stone, I cant wait for you to put them to use.

Alordan takes a deep breath after barfing his guts out and then raises an eyebrow at the new found feast before him - already warm and ready to eat. He digs in.........

Gramble watches in disgust as alordan starts to eat his own vomit so grabs his ropes and pulls him away from the pile of puke.

This entire island is a waste of time, no loot, no useful magic, nothing but crap left behind by some useless wizard

Lerrick

With all of the all of the strange magic going on with the items which have been discovered the cleric begins to wonder about the egg with the vials of liquid in them. She does nothing to investigate however, saving that for something to do when the party gets out of this cursed place. She then tosses a few more scraps of remaining rations over to the ranger.

Andronichishche

Andronichishche returns from the double doors to relay the results of his test. He pauses momentarily and stares blankly at the ranger busily slurping up his partially digested, recently egested, rations. After everything else he has seen and experienced on the island, this spectacle in fine dining barely seems to affect him. Ignoring Alordan completely, although still breathing strictly through his mouth, he conveys that the brass key opened into the same room.

Andron also listens intently to Lerrick's appraisal of the antique hymnal, but simply nods in response. The copper sheet is met similarly with intense curiosity as he traces parts of the etchings with an index finger. "Gorgonus Meduseasius Maximus ..." , he murmurs quietly.

He listens patiently as Gramble grumbles about the decidedly poor haul of treasure and replies after a minute of thought. "We don't know yet for certain the functions of the other items. The ring and gloves are suitable for identification when we return to town. However, even one baneful item I would not expect as part of a reward."

He gestures to the old book Lerrick is holding. "I expect that hymnal was provided by the wizard. For what reason?" He shrugs. "It does suggest though, that he was a follower of Pelor and of good intentions. Although, offering a vault of cursed magical objects is incongruous with a moral proclivity. In my opinion."

He produces his hand drawn map of the complex and peruses it as he continues. "There are two possibilities as I see them. That is the true vault and the proper key, or ... there exists another key to reveal the true rewards. This one could have simply been part of a test for Melania and her loyalty to their agreement. Where is the proper key, then?"

He traces the perimeter of the exterior rock walls surrounding the upper level of the lift. "We inserted the copper ring into the bull's nose. That suggests the vault was built with the earlier minotaur experiment. Maybe Brutus had the proper key? The wizard obviously provided him with the southern half of the complex. The north for Melania. Her lair was hidden by that secret door. Did Brutus have a hidden lair, as well?"

He lays a finger on the far southeast tunnel. Unusual in that it contains two minotaur statues. "If there is another key, I would expect to find it there. We also have that locked chest to open, too." He glances again at the prone ranger and grimaces slightly. "I think I will ... go search that room again ... until Mr. Alordan recovers." Andron walks back into the vault and searches for the missing cube. He also examines its pedestal in the unlikely event the cube is actually invisible.

Maag

Maag takes a couple of deep breaths, spits, then rinses out his mouth with a swig from his waterskin. "Ugh," he grunts and takes another swig. Then he shrugs. "On der bright side, normally when I throw up dat much, I 'ave got no money left and a killer 'angover."

He looks at his hands and realizes that he's still wearing the "magical" gloves. Quickly he takes them off and is about to stow them in his pack when something occurs to him. "Oi Andron! Is it safe for me to 'ave dese fings? Is der a better place to put dem?"

When the chest is brought up, Maag sucks in a breath between his teeth, then slowly exhales again. "Yeah...I didn't wanna open it down 'ere in case it is trapped. On der other 'and...if dat is 'ow we get der real treasure room key..." He reaches into his beltpouch for his tools.

Before he starts work, Maag glances over at Alordan on the floor. "Wotcha reckon Gramble? I bet yer a silver piece 'e keeps tryin' to eat der puke". He grins.

Andronichishche

Andron's ears perk up as he hears Maag holler his name and the subsequent question about the gloves. He stops what he was doing and pokes his head through the open double doors. "The gloves? Oh, I expect they should be quite safe, unworn. If those are indeed Shedding Strike, the magic is likely activated by striking with a weapon. While wearing the gloves, that is."

Treasure Room
Sunday, 21st of Goodmonth
Early Morning?

Just as Alordan is about to re-eat his last meal, the still angry Gramble yanks him away from the rather large puddle of vomit, while Lerrick mercifully tosses the restrained ranger a bit more to chew on as they hope the confounding magic eventually subsides.

After more speculation that makes all of the others nervous about their own new treasures, Andron moves back to the empty pedestal with the small square dust print. Much like his new ring, the object that once sat atop this stand was much smaller than the other items, easily secreted away by anyone with a desire to do so. He feels around the top, in case the item is invisible, finding that it is indeed actually missing from its spot.

Maag reluctantly takes out the small locked chest and gives it a visual investigation before sticking his picks into the lock and popping it open after a few less than delicate flicks of his meaty wrists. Hearing that clicking sound that all in his profession love to hear, the bad breathed thug is pretty sure he was able to pop the lock effectively. Technically, checking and picking are 2 separate actions, and Alordan needs all the extra time he can get with his save, so..... :D

Alordan shakes his head like clearing it from a deep sleep. He stops and stares. A moment passes further as the foul taste of vomit and bile reach his awareness. He gags. He vomits. He struggles in his bonds. "What the FUCK is going on here?!?!" He continues to struggle to get free!

F-bombs are allowed after 13 failed saves in a row.

Like I said, I didn't think it would drag on this long. :?

Andronichishche

Andronichishche winces as he hears the ranger's hollered invective. It sounded very akin to that of a gambler with a long streak of bad luck with the dice. Peering out from the doors, he is relieved to see Alordan is apparently finally freed from the chime's magic. Andron moves back to the platform and assists the ranger to his feet and the removal of his bonds.

"Welcome back, Mr. Alordan! Apologies for the rope, but the situation demanded it." He relays finding nothing else in the room. "The missing cube is quite small. If Marquees took the ring, then it's possible either he or Melania had the cube hidden on their person. For that matter, it could also be inside that wooden puzzle box." Andron heaves a long and weary sigh. "Let's have a look in the chest, then."
