Re: OOC Game Discussion
How many days of rations are we thinking a side of beef equates to?

Re: OOC Game Discussion
I think I have all the character sheets up to date in the Level 1 thread.
Olivia wasn't previously posted in the character sheets but would be tagging along in the 2a thread. Should I only focus on two of the characters from this point forward?
Could someone point me in the direction of how the rations and travel work. I am seeing the Chapter 6 Quests & Journeys descriptions but not sure if I am missing somewhere where the rations is more clearly defined.
Thank you!

Handling Barter
Everyone started with both a Trade Good and an Heirloom. You can choose at this stage to barter them for something you need in a more pressing way, or keep them for continued roleplay/sentimental value.
I will accept any reasonable trade based on the intrinsic value of an item as valid. If you think you're pushing your luck on what's reasonable, add a DC 15 1d20 Luck or Personality roll.
You also all have at least some copper coins. They spend normally.
Rations cost 5cp per day. Since food is at an immediate premium, you can barter with rations (to give away or acquire) at 1sp per day (or 1sp per pound).
A side of beef, fully butchered, has 200lbs of beef. With current inflated rates, that means it is worth 200sp, or 20gp. Rikke could trade the side of beef for a longsword fine, normally. In current conditions, she could trade for a sword and shield, the meat taken by a family that needs to eat more pressingly.
The well-preserved rations stolen from the guard barracks will be worth 2sp per day (Hild, Olivia, and Piers have 40sp for their full backpack of 20 days).
You should be interacting and roleplaying together, hopefully finding reasons to gel as a group. Cooperating and combining gear and barter-trade is a good idea!

Insipiration
I'm going to steal the Inspiration feature from D&D 5e and apply it here. It gives me a way to reward depth in character development and roleplay.
I will tag the bottom of posts with "+1 Inspiration: Character" as we go. You can hold 1 inspiration at a time (and you keep track of it on your sheet). You can spend it to get a reroll once, when you choose.

Re: OOC Game Discussion
Thanks to Greyarea for reminding me that this is in the DCC Lankhmar expansion.
I see this as having some plusses and minuses; foremost it is a LOT more player-side accounting for you to keep track of. It lets you accrue more of it, but also lose it. It also adds +1 to rolls instead of rerolling.
I will open it for discussion/vote. If you like the fiddly-bits of Fleeting Luck I can use it to reward good roleplay instead of a binary Inspiration toggle.
Thoughts?

I like the idea of cumulative +1’s as a mechanic. It feels more subtle compared to a re-roll which I personally think is too impactful.

Re: OOC Game Discussion
Hi - I like crunchy games, but I'll cast a vote against this. I don't have a strong objection, but my reasons are:
More to keep track of, some players will and some won't track it, I suspect this will be more administrative overhead from Marullus.
I worry about lobbying for luck points. I ran a game for awhile here that gave supplemental xp since PbP is a slow pace, but the supplemental play was based in part on roleplaying. I got lobbied for xp, and it was annoying to deal with.

Re: OOC Game Discussion
A question about magic: Do mercurial effects take place even if the spell fails? I assumed they did, but realized this could go either way (and I see from forums that judges go both ways on this).

Re: OOC Game Discussion
I agree with those points - it feels like the fleeting luck is tonally consistent with DCC but I think ease of play is probably better.
Re: OOC Game Discussion
If precedent is mixed, I am much more in favor of it only affecting success. We already have cases where the mercurial effect is better than the spell itself, and it seems wrong for that to be automatic.
Re: OOC Game Discussion
Hey, all. Apologies for my absence as of late. I thought I would be able to make the time for some relaxed gaming and I was very wrong; it's not something I'm able to do, at all. :\
So I need to bow out of the game, Marullus. Many apologies for that. But feel free to use my character as a replacement if someone biffs it and needs a new character to play.

So sorry to hear that, Alethan. Keep in touch and come back when life is better. We can keep your seat warm.

Re: OOC Game Discussion
I went ahead and moved both groups forward. Sorry for the delay - we were out of town this week and I didn't have my laptop.
Normally, I will wait for clear action statements to move you forward. For the Krossvik group, you had a lot of dialog, but it is unclear who is doing what specific action. I made some assumptions and am letting you clarify from here.
I will normally move forward when there's an action. If there's confusion or things are lagging, please bump me. I might be missing the point or a confusion.

Marullus - I started summarizing characters here but see that you made space for it with your recent posts.

Faanku - I am sorry I keep missing the Myantha prompt, I will make a note to respond to it.

Re: OOC Game Discussion
Is it too early to reminisce about the stories that have come out of this campaign so far?
I have really enjoyed it. I was pleasantly surprised to discover details I had forgotten going back into the Chapter 1 threads.

Never too early.
Also, that makes me very happy. That's what I strive for!
