Ouch! So close too!

Well you start to think that you are seeing some kind of connection with the information you are looking at, but then you realize one of the ladies at the grave was involved in the local Garden Club that has been active since 1887 and begin getting distracted by the information about local public gardens and project the club is involved in these days, including a nearby rose garden. Oh how these distractions eat up the time! They are growing some species of roses that are not typical of the area due to the cold weather and being surprisingly successful!

Sam realizes he is getting quite hungry after waiting all morning for the team to return. He gets Hrothgar back into his carrier, grabs a notebook, pen, a menu picked from a table in the room he is in, and the company phone - leaving the satchel, his jacket, and other belongings behind - and heads out of the station with the carrier in the direction of the nearest bus stop.

I am heading out for a quick lunch - I will be back in a bit.

As he heads out of the door he notices some colored pencils just outside the door and pauses to pick them up before proceeding to wait at the bus stop.

Roy replies to the text/email "Greetings Sam, this is Roy glad to have you on board. Gotta go trying to order lunch. Me and Lionel are at the taco food truck."

Sam only has to wait 20mins or so and a bus arrives. When he asks the driver about a place to eat, the skinny man begins to speak but is cut off by a chubby but good natured man sitting directly behind him.

what? Look how skinny he is! Don't ask a skinny fella where to find good food, he obviously doesn't know any!
Ask a fat man, like me! You can tell that I know where the good stuff is!

The driver and the bus crowd all laugh and it seems this is a familiar and good natured exchange. The big man winks. Take this feller up the road to Ed Walker's.

The bus Driver looks up with a smile shaking his head. Well, sir? It is the next stop 3 blocks up.

Sam chuckles along with the good-nature man, checks the address on the menu he took with him from the office, and thinks that it (Ed Walker's) should be close enough to Mother's Café if he can't find a hearty vegetarian meal there. I sure do appreciate the recommendation sir!

Driver, please let me off up the road - can I get a transfer ticket just in case?

Sam disembarks the bus with carrier in tow and whispers into the cage, This is turning out to be a good day - right buddy?

Hrothgar's pain medication has worn off and he looks out through the grate of the carrier with utter disdain and matted fur where drool is coming out of one side of his mouth.

Sam walks with the cat to Ed Walker's - taking in his surroundings on the way - and is eager to look at the menu for all of the delicious vegetable based dishes they have.

Assuming nothing happens along the way or that Sam sees on the walk from the bus

Sam inspects the billboard menu from Ed Walker's for salads and doesn't see an immediate option available. He looks around in the area of the restaurant and all of the patrons to see what everyone is eating before starting a long and complicated conversation with the person at the ordering station about how they could create a salad from miscellaneous garnishes from other meals. Hrmm... I guess I could get some fried pickles.

I'll have one order of fried pickles and a water...oh, and could I have a cup of water and a slice of cheese for my cat?

After ordering Sam looks around to gauge the reactions of the patrons to his order.

As he scans through the menu he is able to spot a number of salads as well as a Boca burger.

Sam easily sees that the Drive-in has been expanded several times over from the original driven, but the latest "add on" couldn't be newer than 40 or 50 years. Still, it is clean and comfortable. The decor is fittingly retro with a hodgepodge of 1940's through 1980's Americana.

Soon he has his drink and order brought over by a middle-aged woman with a smile. Here you go... Anything else we can get you?

The patrons seem to be okay with the cat though it gets a few stares before people go back to their meal. Classic rock plays over the speakers but is not too loud so that it is distracting. There are a couple TVs tucked into corners showing sports news. Sam will notice a couple cars pull in and flash their headlights. Within moments there is a waitress outside at the driver's window, taking their orders. It is a real old fashioned drive in.

Sam realizes that the server probably has a lot of work to get to but asks, One more thing...say, do you know anybody in the area that has these family names? As he pulls a list of the names recorded from the headstones out for the server to see.

The waitress looks confused but intrigued by that request and looks at the names. No more than anyone else, but my mom does that genealogy stuff over that the Mormon church. That and the library might be a good place to start

Thank you for the recommendations, maam. You have a great day now! Sam wants to see if he can get one more person's recommendations and goes over to one of the cars that recently pulled in and flashed its lights. Waving a hand to try to get the attention of the driver to ask the same question of them.

Howdy! Could I trouble you to see if you know any of these names on this list? Sam tries to be his most charming self.

I love the old fashioned Gum Shoe way you are doing this. :)

The first car is someone that looks like they are in a bit of a hurry but he looks over the names and shakes his head. Sorry, can't say I know about them.

The second car is a young man, probably fresh out of high school and grabbing some lunch. He is sunskissed and dirtly like he has been doing the kind of work someone lowest on the totem pole has to in order to earn his keep. Duncan? Yeah, I think I remember hear there was some woman named Duncan that was into ghost or spooks or something. Can't remember what the rest of the name was though.

The third car is a slightly older woman in office clothes who looks up from her phone. "Oh, I heard those people were all devil worshipers."

Fourth car some guy munching on a burger with a cold curbside beer: Jack Belt? Hell yeah, I knew him. Had one hell of a car wreck back in the day. Big partier. Miss that sum bitch. he holds up his beer as if in salute and takes a big swig. Course it was the drugs in the end that got him I think.

Sam is going to look around for a paper menu from Ed Walker's to bring back to the office and jot a note - friendly service and - a good place to try fried pickles. He also quickly scribbles details from these conversations with the drivers into his notebook (Devil worshipers; Duncan = into ghosts or spooks; Jack Belt = partier, drugs, car wreck), snaps a picture of his notes, and tries to send it to everyone but it only goes to Roy with a text that says going to visit the library and Mormons..

After hearing these conversations Sam thinks it might be a good idea to go first to the library and then see if that Mormon Church is still open.

While hefting up the carrier with Hrothgar in it, Sam says to the big cat, What do you think Hrothgar...would Jack Belt's accident be in the old papers? before heading off in the direction of the bus line that will take him to the library.

Thank you!

Hot but Breezy

Jason and Sam arrive by city bus from here:

The rest of the team come from here:
viewtopic.php?f=628&t=9856&start=100#p490148

Everyone converges on the Firehouse at more or less the same time. The ecto pulls into the underground garage and the guys are able to come up to the main floor, stretch and spread out notes on one of the conference room tables where they have been doing their note crunching the past weeks. They see all the information spread out over whiteboards and in stacks about local like the Mayor, Father Belmont, and also notes on specific jobs, like Kindle, The Cavanaugh Mound, The Historical Site, And a splattering of smaller jobs and investigations which, thankfully, are marked completed.

This is when Jason and Sam arrive in the front door, being dropped off right where they need to be by a nice driver since they are a couple of the last people he needs to drop off before his shift is over.

Julia is wrapping up her day and looks up from her desk. Hey guys! Any luck? The rest of the team is rattling around in the back.

Sam makes a few trips through the door - one with the bag of food and a second with the carrier - not wanting to repeat his clumsy entrance in the morning. Well howdy again Julia, it has been an eventful day! You see I've met Jason... I am looking forward to meeting the rest of the team.

Sam looks around the entry lobby. Now where did I leave my satchel?

Hey Julia, what do you know about the Anniversary Garden Rose Society? Sam says as he heads to the coffee pot to get a new mug.

Jason smiles, as he walks through the door, You work too hard mam, but we sure do appreciate it.

He goes to put away his equipment and starts humming to himself. Going upstairs he heads to the kitchen and rummages around, finding a Tecate he cracks it while trying to get together enough to make something to eat. He goes to the stair well and yells down, I'M GONNA MAKE A PIZZA IN CASE ANYONE ELSE IS HUNGRY.

While waiting he grabs his laptop and begins to search the more reputable parts or the occult reference net for tips and tricks for communing with spirits,..eh more Ouija boards and parlor tricks...
After some more searching he finds a small snippet regarding a manuscript allegedly from the House of Wisdom that was believed to be an account just what he was looking for.

Just let me know if I need to edit or anything I just trying to keep adding flavor but don't wanna step on any toes. If there no issues he will continue:
Jason types up a quick email to the historian mentioned in the article as studying the manuscript inquiring to see if this could be a valid lead.

When Sam first arrived he didn't know what room to go to to wait for the team to return. Julia mentioned he should avoid the conference room. I am going to randomly roll to see which room he went to:
  1. Office 1
  2. Office 2
  3. Office 3
  4. Conference Room
  5. Office 4
  6. Laboratory

Hrothgar and Sam's First Arrival [1d6] = 4

Sam is going to bring his coffee and Hrothgar back to that same room and let out Hrothgar again. Oh, there's my satchel!

Hi everyone! Nice to finally meet you face to face. Sam is going to go around in turn shaking hands and saying hello, putting his other hand in a folksy manner on each person's shoulder. Hrothgar is going to roam around looking for any papers that may be on the floor to sit down on. ...and that over there is Hrothgar!
