Re: IC
Round Two
Within seconds the ghast that slew Nald leaps at Telemachus, driving the mage down into the water. The mage feels pain, and then stiffens as some unnatural property of the creature's bite causes his muscles to seize. With a sizzle the party's penultimate torch slips into the water and is extinguished. The room is now lit only by a single torch, carried by Aldus. Goshawk, too, is bitten and paralyzed by a bite; the ghast facing Casfrea takes advantage of her slipping and leaps upon her. In her blind rage and off-balance the berserker is unable to defend herself, and she is paralyzed as well! Gardo manages to slay another ghast and leaps to Telemachus's aid, as do Newton and Wulfka, but only Wulfka is able to land a blow. Feargus stabs with his spear at the one facing him, but it avoids the stabs with ease. Aldus tosses a flask of oil at the one atop Telemachus, but the flask goes wild and shatters against the wall of the room, soaking the remains of books!

Re: IC
Feargus
Ducking and dodging, Feargus is only dimly aware of the collapsing bodies around him. He continues to stab away. "Goshawk, keep on them. Get them on the ground if you can. Goshawk?"

Re: IC
Aldus swears. Holding a torch, he can't use his bow. The only thing to do is fish another flask of oil out and pitch it at a ghoul, and hope that this doesn't end up with the library ablaze.
Wulfka continues to fight, wishing she had Aldus' sword, since he doesn't seem keen on using it.

Gardo
"That's two! Damn! I wish I could stun these things as well. Wulfka, keep your wits about you! We will beat these things." He continues to target the one threatening Telemachus then will turn his attention to his next conquest.

Re: IC
Round Three
The ghasts, smelling potential victory, ignore the downed combatants and attack those still standing. Wulfka, Gardo and Newton all sustain minor injuries, but none fall victim to their slavering, paralyzing bite. Aldus tosses a flask of oil that hits the ghast that had attacked Telemachus. It hits and breaks, and Newton sets it alight with his torch, though the scout misses with his blade. Both Feargus and Wulfka hit as well, but neither are able to bring down their opponents!

Gardo
"It.... hit... me?" A puzzled look crosses Gardo's face. Then rage flares up. "A lowly piece of trash like you doesn't get to hit me!" He looks for an opening to drive his point home.

Re: IC
Round Four
The remaining four ghasts press the attack. Wulfka suffers some minor injures, as does Gardo, but again, neither are affected by the fell paralyzing bite these creatures possess. Gardo slays two ghasts with as many strokes, while the flaming oil does the job on a third. There's one left. It leaps at Gardo, looking to kill, but the remaining adventurers surround it and quickly dispatch the creature.
Silence falls on the room, with the adventurers standing knee deep in water topped by a froth of ichor, blood, and oil. The stench is overwhelming. Telemachus, Goshawk, and Casfrea are stiff and rigid, unable to move, while Nald is just as unmoving, but floats face down in the water, a slick of red surrounding him.

Gardo
Breathing heavily, Gardo takes a look to make sure nothing else is coming out or moving again. Satisfied, he cleans off his sword and sheathes it.
"I lost count there, Feargus. Might have been four. Think you got that last one. Shall we drag our comrades outside into the light? Maybe that will help the effects of those bites wear off faster."
Gardo will start lifting and moving his comrades outside starting with Telemachus. After everyone is moved, he will drag the ghasts outside and further away from the door. "These foul things need to be burned. We can start that as we leave this place after we finish exploring."

Re: IC
Aldus helps haul out the paralyzed bodies of his comrades, and cleaning the wounds of injured. "I don't know a thing about paralysis. Is this something that wears off, or are we headed back to the temple?
"Those things were awful, weren't they? I'm glad we made it. Well, except for that religious boy. Makes you think, doesn't it?
"We still need to examine the room those things came out of. But I hope it can wait until we are all recovered."

Feargus
"I'm not even sure I got that last one. I think this "magic" spear doesn't work too well. With my mace I would have brained at least two. Goshawk! Get a torch in that room and tell me what you see. Goshawk?"
Feargus jogs to Goshawk, and puts his ear down next to the man's mouth to listen for breathing. "I think he's alive."

There is no pulse.shaidar wrote:Newton drags Nald up out of the water as best he can checks for a pulse.
It takes a good thirty or so minutes before the others recover the use of their limbs. Casfrea has by now snapped out of her battle fury.
An inspection of the ghast room is made. There are no visible exits; instead, the walls are lined with about forty burial niches, into which bodies would be shoved head first. Gnawed and splintered bones litter the floor, and the stone door bears witness to the ghasts' attempt to claw their way out over the centuries; deep furrows have been carved into the very stone itself!
It takes perhaps two hours to search the entire room. No other exits are discovered. Indeed, the only treasure discovered are a number of figurines, similar in appearance to those found in the sarcophagus, but fashioned from different materials. There are the following: 6 figurines of clay, likely worth 25 gold apiece, 8 of terra cotta, each likely worth 125 gold apiece, and 12 of wax, each likely worth 35 gold each.
Re: IC
Telemachus
The mage thanks his comrades for rescuing him after the paralysis. "Casfrea, too, of course."
"We should get back and get cleaned up. Don't want this fetid water to cause any disease with our open wounds."
Despite saying that, he recommends first that Detect Magic is cast and the rest of the tomb is checked. He also wants to recover any valuable books from the Tomb before they leave.

Gardo
"Sounds good, Telemachus. We could at least wash or bathe in the lake or river south of here to make sure we don't get any weird disease. Now, who is casting so I know who to help protect?"
