Re: IC
Feargus
"Whoa there Gardo. One man's fun is another's bad day. Don't let these things slam you."
Feargus keeps on hacking at the things, focusing on the ones more likely to be beat up first and maneuvering to take a second swing at another in case one goes down.

Aldus eagerly prepares and passes forward anything that those on the frontline need. Lit torch? Drink of water? What do you need?

Re: IC
Rounds Four through Seven
The battle turns into a war of attrition, bottlenecked at the door. Feargus and Gardo are both hit by the foe, each blow from their ancient fists doing more damage then would seem possible. Telemachus tosses a flask of oil but it misses and lands in the water behind them. Feargus misses, but Gardo hits, dropping the burning mummy into the water with a hiss of steam.
The creature from the sarcophagus staggers forward, death mask grinning, with pale red eyes glowing malevolently from within. Feargus is hit again, but the two warriors give as good as they're getting. Aldus tosses a flask of oil which hits the newcomer, and is passed a torch, ready to throw it as soon as the opportunity presents itself.
By now the two companions have gotten better at anticipating their attackers; their blows are powerful, but telegraphed far in advance, as if the undead limbs have to be moved with a force of will. Aldus tosses a torch which just catches the oil-soaked creature, Feargus drops the first one with a powerful blow, and Gardo hits the newly arrived one as well!
The end in sight, Feargus and Gardo attack the remaining mummy in concert, felling it with a pair of mighty blows! It falls into the water as the oil burns itself out.
Silence descends upon the vault.

Aldus lets out a deep sigh, and claps his hands. "Good job, everyone! How are we? Anyone need medical attention? Mummy rot is nothing to sneeze at, you know." He collects his sword and Wulfka's shield from Casfrea. "Thank you for stepping up when the time called for it, Miss."
Once everything is calm and the wounded are taken care of, he will again ask for someone to accompany him with a torch to go inspect the dais. "Newton, you said the sarcophagus has magic about it, yes?" He will avoid interfering with the sarcophagus too much , for fear of triggering something nasty, but will give it a thorough visual examination.

Re: IC
Panting slightly, Gardo looks for the next opponent. "Stay alert. These creatures, much like my brothers, always wait until you relax for a moment then jump you from a new place." After seeing the looks from his comrades and how they are going about things, he decides to move to one side and keep vigilant and make sure his fallen foes stay that way.
It's hard to explain puns to kleptomaniacs because they always take things literally.
Re: IC
Telemachus
The mage breathes a sigh of relief and collects his two remaining flasks of oil, tossing them and his tinderbox back into his pack.
Slipping it on his back, he nods and winks at Casfrea.
"Is that death mask magical? If not, we should take it. Could be worth something to a collector. If it is, could be cursed."

Newton asks Nald to look at people's wounds, while he takes his axe back from Feargus and then heads towards the dais with Aldus.
(he also has a lantern to provide light)
"Yes, the mask is enchanted, as well as something in the sarcophagus. When I get closer I should be able to tell if it's the thing itself or something inside."

Feargus
"So what, we just leave it here? That doesn't seem very safe since we popped open this crypt. Is it even magical?"

The Aftermath
The adventurers, victorious, carefully scoop up the mask in cloth and advance towards the sarcophagus. Inside they see a spear and shield; under Newton's sight these two items glow as magical. Additionally, they find twenty curiously carved figurines -- each about the size of a man's hand -- depicting armored men and women. They're carved out of a strange, almost translucent, greenish stone. Aldus takes a look at them; he can't put a price to them, but wagers they are worth a pretty alcedes. And, of course, Telemachus knows that mummy dust is a valuable spell component.
It is about this time that Feargus realizes his wound is aching more than it otherwise should. Pushing his armor aside, he sees that skin has turned an unnatural brown color, like that of the mummies' skin. His head feels as though it is filled with cotton.

Feargus peals off his armor and lifts his padding to see the bruising and discoloration. "Who said something about mummy rot? What is it? Does this look like mummy rot? I swear the thing didn't hit me that hard. Is it hot in here? Why am I sweating all of a sudden? What if I pour holy water on it? Goshawk! Pour some of that holy water on here."thirdkingdom wrote:The Aftermath

Re: IC
Aldus is extremely interested in the figures, but is cautious in collecting them, for fear of contagion or curse. "Newton, can you tell which of these items are magic?"
When he hears about Feargus' condition, he says, "Wait, Mummy Rot is real?! Huh. I mostly thought it was just something thieves and tomb robbers made up to make their stories sound more dramatic. Well, uhm, if the stories are true, then it kills slowly. We should have plenty of time to get you help. But, er, well, you'll be sickly, and it can ravage your appearance. Let it run its course, and you'll look about as hideous as these soggy fiends. The only cure I ever heard about was a bishop's touch."

Newton
"The spear and shield are magical, the figures not. We could gather them up like we did the mask, carefully. With Feargus ill I vote we head back to Junction and visit the temple of Sarnis to see if they can help. We can always come back and check the other door in a day or two. The royal jelly can help with diseases, so it wouldn't hurt to apply some to Feargus's wound before we leave. It might be best that Feargus shares a horse on the trip back, in case he faints"

"The figures are likely of some worth. We'd want a sage to examine them first. It may be that a collector will value them more for their historical significance than a jeweler would for their substance."
