Maskelyn

When the monster turns, Maskelyn lets the illusion lapse and runs like hell, as silent as he can manage. He's heading toward the rest of the party.

Ko-Nan nods at the apparent success of the distraction and quickly follows the group west.

Tullia

She motions to the others near her to follow toward the west, and the edge of the jungle. She considers both the jungle and the open spaces to be dangerous, but staying in the edge of the trees allows the group options for movement.

Fiefo will focus on increasing the distance between himself and the beasts, and on maximizing the number of trees between himself and being spotted. If the nearest one turns and looks in their direction, he’ll stop running and hide.

The Valley That Time Forgot, Forbidden Island of Xygax the Wizard, Land of One Thousand Towers
Day Two. Midday. March 26th, 912 CY
Hot, humid, partly cloudy

The thunder lizard unleashes another ground-shaking roar, now in rage and frustration. The vast Reptile God's inconceivable gait takes it deeper into the river as it searches in vain for its missing prey.

Far behind it, Adrock realizes the immense deity of the lost valley has lumbered beyond the range of his luminous incantation. So he joins the other shipwrecked explorers in fleeing west as Maskelyn's sorcerous flames suddenly evaporate into thin air!

They run for their lives from the twin terrors. Their hearts pound. Their sides ache. Their lungs burn. Still, on they run.

Only when they are finally sure they are not being pursued by the horrific, unimaginable predators do they dare stop and look back.

Nothing follows them.

After catching their breath, taking water and recovering, they eventually continue onward, on the western trail to the tower of the dead wizard.

An hour later, they escape the Valley That Time Forgot and come to the edge of the western mountain range. Its sheer, soaring cliffs loom like a titanic wall of rock.

Unlike the southern volcanic range, these fantastic mountains are unlike anything any of them have ever seen before, if mountains they really are.

The trail takes them into the strange stone forest of colossal, towering spires.

They hike for hours without incident through the endless reaches of the bizarre, alien landscape.

By mid-afternoon, their arduous trail brings them to a rope bridge that crosses a vast, bottomless chasm.

"I'm unsure if now is a good time to mention this," quavers Arto. "But I'm afraid I must confess to a fear of heights!"

Maskelyn

The gnome shudders as he looks into the valley I hope this bridge is actually in decent condition. I'd hate to step through it... He whistles a decending note as he gestures a long fall.

Chaka is ready to show the others that he isn't afraid of heights. Dinosaurs maybe, but not heights.

He walks out onto the first step of the bridge, checking it over carefully as he does so in case there is any funny business going on here.

(checking for traps)

"Bridge good! Bridge is your friend!"

"Get to wizard house much faster this way!"

DM:

The young ape-boy bravely steps onto the first plank of the thin rope bridge.
It doesn't snap under his weight. Nor does Chaka discover any traps or snares lying in wait.

Great job Chaka, but be careful, let us tie a rope to your waist as you cross.

Ko-Nan, not one to shirk from an obstacle, does raise an eyebrow at the invisible depths below. Watching the others test the bridge, it is only prudent to let those eager to do so have at it.

“Right behind you, Chaka. Don’t get us killed.” Fiefo will tread carefully right behind the monkey-boy, letting him see to the soundness of the bridge while he looks to the sky all around between steps in case some flying monstrosity waits to snatch them from the precarious path.

Jeojand the cat-man purrs at the Arto. "Rrrrrrr you do not need to worry about any fear of heights. Just don't fall!"

He helps hold the rope tied to Chaka, and if he makes it across, he will tie his own rope around himself and move across gingerly as well, being sure to place his weight on the rope supports rather than the centres of the wooden planks. "Rrrrr if half of ussss walk across each with a separate rrrrrrope, then the other half can tie themselves to the ends we leave behind."

Tullia

She is not afraid, but prudent. Chaka, go with the rope, checking the bridge as you go; then tie it off on the other side. Let's wait until he is across, then we should go across individually, so the bridge won't sway much; with a rope, of course. Arto, bridge or monster? You can do it.

Seeing Fiefo following Chaka, she sighs, Fiefo, you would do well to wait until Chaka gets across. We don't want to put any extra stress on the bridge until we know it is safe. Discretion is the better part of valor.

The Stone Forest of Towering Spires, Forbidden Island of Xygax the Wizard, Land of One Thousand Towers
Day Two. Mid-afternoon. March 26th, 912 CY
Hot, humid, partly cloudy

Chaka looks down:

Deep within the bizarre stone forest, at the edge of a rope bridge spanning a fathomless crevasse of jagged rock, Adrock the historian-priest ties a line around Chaka's waist and holds the other end.

"Och! These bridge ropes seem to be fashioned from steel!" Switch the dwarf proclaims with admiration.

Seeing the bridge is sound, Chaka cautiously proceeds.

"Right behind you, Chaka! Don't get us killed," Fiefo LaBratt says as he follows closely behind the young ape-boy; his fearful, rodent eyes ever watchful for the next imminent doom.

Shaking, Arto the hobbit goes to the back of the line and prepares himself for his turn handling the terror that awaits him.

Ko-Nan the barbarian is content to wait and watch. Jeojand the cat-mancer ties a rope around his own waist. Tullia the ranger calls Fiefo back to this side.

The bridge might be 100 feet long. No single rope will span the distance.

Actions? (Single file marching order please. How much space between each crosser?
Also, who is tied? With whose ropes? And what are the ropes connected to, if anything? Thanks.)

Jeojand hold the 50' section tied to chaka and konan hold the 50' section tied to jeojand. together it should span the bridge and test it all the way across.

The illusionist, knowing his limitations, doesn't offer to help with the ropes. He stands by, praying to Bugs that He chooses to prank someone else.

Tullia

Let's tie several ropes together, so they will reach across.

As a Ranger, I will assume knot-tying is part of her knowledge.

We shouldn't all get on the bridge at once, only one or two at a time. Bridges like this can start swaying badly and fall apart if there are too many feet walking on them. She sighs, looks toward the sky, and hopes the group will take her advice.

Ko-Nan nods at Tullia's wise suggestion. He watches her cross and plans to mimic her actions.
