Re: Chat
Brandon’s method is preferred, if that works for you guys. For ooc comments, just put them at the bottom of the post after OOC: or parenthetically if it is in the middle of the post.LtTibbles wrote:Depending on the GM that's the usual way of formatting posts to help seperate actions, ooc, and ic dialogue but it isn't required for every game.
I'm loving the map by the way Sono!
And glad you dig the map!

Re: Chat
The post style is just a force of habit for me, but if you are posting from your computer, if you look at the formatting buttons on the reply window, there is a "dialog" and an "ooc" button. If you use those, it will change the text to the appropriate color without lots of clicks... I've been on this board for a couple years and just learned of these shortcuts a couple of months ago...Captain Kinkajou wrote:Cool map. And, your logic around miles per hex makes good sense to me.
While I think, given that a few of this group are new to The Unseen Servant, I thought I'd ask the old hands if there are any posting conventions we should know about? badams30 is leading by example, putting the character name at the top of the post and dialogue in blue. I've edited my post accordingly. I think I read somewhere that OOC comments / clarifications are normally written in red. Though I can't find where I saw that now. Any other pointers, or is that about it? Thanks.

Never knew that - thanks for the tip! I also just noticed that you can 'subscribe' to a forum to get notifications of new posts. Really helpful to keep you notified when someone has made a post!badams30 wrote:

Re: Chat
A question on the Create Portal spell. As I read the spell from the book, the caster inscribes the same rune in two locations. The portal is open for a number of hours equal to the PL used in casting.
So, my question is how long do you think we should allow between the carving of the runes? If it is indefinite time, then this could be a very powerful teleport spell. Do you think that was the intent? I will post the same question on the G+ forum to get some info there.

Re: Chat
I see what you mean, maybe time between rune markings isn't as big a deal but rather the time it takes to make the rune? Maybe it needs to be intricate enough that you can't just scratch it out while an orc is charging down on you.
Alternativley you could raise the PL needed to cast the spell every hour or something. Also can Magic-Users end their spells/effects early?

Re: Chat
Taking time to inscribe an exact copy of an intricate rune seems perfectly reasonable. If we go that route, it's probably worth defining the duration now, in case it comes up in a particularly hairy encounter.

Re: Chat
Just seen the map - it's great!
Re: Chat
Ok, so how about this. It takes 2 minutes to carve the rune. You can try and shave it to 1 minute by making a luck roll, if you want. Additionally, if the original rune was drawn more than 24 hours earlier, you need to make a luck roll to ensure it is still entact, etc. Possibly with a positive or negative die, depending on where the rune was made, e.g. secret place vs. high traffic area, etc.9littlebees wrote:Taking time to inscribe an exact copy of an intricate rune seems perfectly reasonable. I would also suggest that we wait until you carve the second rune before declaring the PL and making the Willpower check.
Does that make sense? Agree?

Re: Chat
Fine by me. For the record, Xantius would have carved the rune into a tree one or two rows inside the tree line (so that a portal wouldn't be immediately visible from the tower), but wouldn't have otherwise been worried about it being hidden.

Thanks for the tip! I am new here as well and have no idea... Is everyone able to navigate the forum and find the various topics? Otherwise shout out and we can try and help navigate. There will be more coming, including one on House rules.
Also, does everyone know how to use the Unseen Servant dice roller (top right of your screen)? If not, please go there and look through the Guide. It's pretty helpful. Alternatively, if you want me to make your rolls, I will do so.
Thanks guys!

Re: Chat
OK, so I'm just going through the process of registering for the dice roller side of the site. Can you please provide a Campaign ID? We need this to create our characters over at the Dice Roller.sonofotho wrote:Is everyone able to navigate the forum and find the various topics? Otherwise shout out and we can try and help navigate. EDIT: Found the campaign ID on the first post!

Also, for image sharing, I highly recommend creating a free account at IMGBB. You can quickly upload screenshots and then grab BBCode to paste directly into posts here, though I recommend changing the "img" tags to "fimg=600" tags, so the images resize nicely for those of us using mobile phones.
