Beach of the Goddess, Eastern Coast of the Forbidden Island of Xygax the Wizard
Land of One Thousand Towers
Day One. Mid-Morning. March 25th, 912 CY

Image

Scaling the towering colossus, Chaka the ape-boy bares his teeth and screams into the lair within the iron goddess' crown. Then he quickly scrambles higher to evade a ferocious primitive's wrath. One false move would send Chaka hurtling down to certain death. He summits the soaring statue and suddenly feels something pulling on his waist! The 50' rope trailing behind him has lost all its slack! It's been caught by something or someone below! The pull's force increases and Chaka feels himself being dragged back toward the edge of the goddess' crown!

Meanwhile, far below on the beach, the castaways of the shipwreck ready for imminent battle!

Suddenly, out of the jungle burst forth powerful, brutish figures; living anachronisms from Man's deepest primordial ancestry. (1-9)

Adorned in animal skins and armed with primitive clubs, spears and axes, the fierce, subhuman beasts see the adventurers near Fiefo and Maskelyn and roar with bloodcurdling savagery as they raise their weapons to attack!

Maskelyn

Houdin! Kill! The Iguana lunges forward, charging the '1-2-3' group of primitives. Maskelyn himself sprints for the dubious shelter of the shpwreck, whispering What's up, Doc? to The Trickster Bugs as a plea that the Gray One will watch over him.

Tullia

She is prepared to start shooting, but not wishing to waste arrows, waits to see how many more targets appear.
Quietly, to LL and Buck:I hope there are not a huge army of these creatures.

Chaka begins to panic as he feels the rope grow tighter. “Have I awakened the slumbering goddess?,” he thinks to himself as he draws his dagger and severs the cord.
I don’t know if this requires a roll, but I included one anyway. Chaka severs the metaphorical umbilical cord: [1d20] = 11

Hoping to slow up the attackers, Fiefo hisses alarmingly, spittle flying from his open mouth as he sprints to the space between the small boat and the overturned crates. He hopes to meet number 4 there and bottleneck the others to perhaps delay their advance somewhat. He’ll merely attempt to block them, shield up, unless attacked, in which case he’ll retaliate with the flat of his blade, figuring their best chance to survive lies in reaching some sort of agreement. “Stop!” he yells in a lame attempt at diplomacy.

Buck looks up at the crowd that has joined him in his hiding spot, his beady eyes sneering over his whiskers. He speaks up in his high pitched, squeaky voice.

"Hey! What's the big idea......"

Once he sees what is coming for them from out of the jungle, his attitude changes. Noticing LL already casting, he does his best to distract the trio closest to them. He walks away from the statue and keeps clear of the mages spell. He loads a bullet in his sling and awaits the outcome of the filthy rat's attempt at parlay.

Ko-Nan remains motionless in the forest (hide in natural surroundings). He recognizes clearly a horde confronting an unknown force - it reminds him of 'home', such as it was.

Day One. Mid-Morning. March 25th, 912 CY

Image

High above the beach, the rope tied around the waist of Chaka the ape-boy is steadily pulling him off the crown of the monolithic statue of the Goddess! In one swift arc, the young simian unsheathes his dagger and slices through the line, saving himself from certain death!

Then Chaka's keen ears hear movement echoing inside the iron arm of the cyclopean statue. Could it be... footsteps?

Far below him, massive, heavy-browed brutes burst out of the jungle challenging those that have invaded their territory and threatened their mates and cubs!

Image

They know this land too well. Ko-Nan the barbarian is quickly discovered.

With bestial speed and aggression, the powerful proto-men hurtle into battle!

The adventurers are completely unprepared for the bloodthirsty savagery of the brutal onslaught! Stone axes, large clubs and sharp spears cut and bludgeon them without mercy! The results are devastating.
(Jeojand: -5hp, Maskelyn: -5hp, Houdin: -15hp, Fiefo -7hp, Ko-Nan: -6hp!)

Image

Maskelyn's mutant lizard is nearly killed! Houdin collapses to the beach and the thirsty sands drink the blood flowing from his grievous wounds.

Actions?!
(Ok. Time out. :)
Everyone except Chaka: That was the first half of round 1. Because the cavemen won initiative, most of your posted actions were rendered moot:
  • -Many of you were waiting and watching: now you've seen.
-Adrock was casting a spell that would now affect his allies as well as his enemies.

So, you are free to keep your previous action (and rolls) as written. Just repost it.
But, if you want, you may post a different action instead.
Please keep in mind, this is for the second half of the first round. So Jeojand and Maskelyn shouldn't try to cast spells; they were hit this round, their spells would be disrupted.
Good luck!)

Map:

The PCs are blue. Houdin is green. Cavemen are orange. X = Unconscious or dead.

Time to start shooting...
She aims at #1...
Long Bow & arrow [1d20] = 14

I think there is an adjustment...?

Fiefo is of a mind to try to intimidate and then communicate with these brutes, but that quickly changes as the blood starts flying. He hisses and spits, looking positively feral in his rage, the mangy hair on his neck and shoulders standing on end as he cuts a sweeping upward arc aimed at number 10:
This is my result from before, except now it’s lethal damage instead of subdual: Attack with Scimitar (THAC0 19): To Hit: [1d20] = 14 Damage, s/M/L: [1d8] = 7

Ko-Nan's passive attempt to let the brutes pass by quickly changes to bloodlust when he is attacked. He screams madly at those before him"DEEEAAATTHHH to all who OPPOSE US!!!!"

Attack: THACO (19): [1d20+1] = 8+1 = 9 / Damage: (S/M: [1d4+1] = 1+1 = 2 / L: [3d4+1] = 7+1 = 8)

Jeojand recoils with a hiss. Unable to use his magic to bound away to safety, he instead settles for a fighting retreat to the northeast, toward his cluster of compatriots who he hopes will save his feeble self from this despicable creature.

"Help! I am victim to this hideous vulgarian's onslaught!"

Jeojand Dagger (ThAC0 20): [1d20] = 20 / Damage (S-M/L):[1d4] = 1 / [1d3] = 2

Buck just shakes his head and shivers.

"This isn't going to end well," he says to himself as he steps away from the water a few feet to get out of the others way.

Twitching his whiskered nose and wiggling his stubby fingers, he calls out for Starrk to shine his forge light down upon the eyes of the beast man trying to take out the surrounded Fiefo.

Chaka looks about wildly and peers down at the bloody chaos below. The sounds within the statue’s arm are quite disconcerting.

He nimbly scrambles around to the back of the statue and begins his cautious descent while trying to stay out of the savages’ view.

Tullia

...seeing that Jeojand might get hit by her arrow, decides archery will have to wait for other opponents. She pulls out her sword and charges towards #1.
Screw this shit. Die, spawn of chaos!, she mutters under her breath.

attack [1d20+2] = 7+2 = 9
damage (sm, med) [1d8] = 5 / (lg) [1d12] = 2

I hope this is correct.

Beach of the Goddess, Eastern Coast of the Forbidden Island of Xygax the Wizard
Land of One Thousand Towers
Day One. Mid-Morning. March 25th, 912 CY

Primordial men out of time without reckoning lunge from the jungle, desperate to defend their women and children! The ferocious attack is overwhelming! The shipwrecked adventurers reel from the unexpected savagery and begin to mount a defense.

Chaka the ape-boy scrabbles behind the giant goddess' head to take cover. Then he starts his cautious descent down the back of the towering iron monolith.

L.L. Adrock, murmuring an ancient hymn from The Before Time, moves closer to the fray, preparing his strange sorcery. On the beach, he rummages through his many possessions searching for a pinch of sand.

Arto and Switch are visibly relieved at the arrival of reinforcements!

Buck the holy mole calls out for Starrk the Iron Golem of the Forge to shine his mighty light upon the beastman that just bludgeoned Houdin into unconsciousness. Miraculously, it is just as the ancient illuminated manuscripts of Marr-Vhell Khamix foretold:

In accordance with sacred scripture, a holy white light explodes into impossible existence across the face of the brutish heretic, blinding him! (3) Excelsior, true believers!

Jeojand the catmancer slashes his dagger with surprising accuracy, etching a line of crimson across the muscled chest of his primitive foe! (1) Then Jeojand nimbly leaps back, landing in the shadow of the timeless colossus, and suddenly remembers something he heard whispered in the taverns of Denethix: "Xygax was a scholar of the ancient history of Earth That Was!"

Nearby, Fiefo LeBratt the rat-man warrior almost runs through a savage foe with his curving blade! But the hardened beastman still fights on! (10)

Maskelyn the twisted gnome, not believing his beloved mutant iguana has fallen insensate, cracks his staff against a low-sloping skull! (2)

Ko-Nan the barbarian and Tullia the ranger both leap into the fray with fierce battle cries upon their lips, but neither can land a blow against the wild beastmen of the dead wizard's island!
