I would say force-feeding a healing potion (and, eventually, using healing spells) on a fallen comrade is option #1, with the Faery Stone being used only as a last resort.

Btw I meant to ask about this earlier from the discussion about the Sleep spell:
Btw I meant to ask about this earlier from the discussion about the Sleep spell:
I wasn't sure if you were referring to the general rule about elves having some basic immunity to sleep/charm/enchantment spells. I think that was a standard rule in Basic D&D, as well as later versions of the game, but it is not mentioned at all in the Dark Dungeons rulebook. The only natural immunity that elves seem to possess in DD is immunity to ghoul paralysis (which I've never really understood why elves would have such an immunity... it's not like they're around ghouls 24/7!)thirdkingdom wrote:Yes, there is a possibility that sometime down the road you guys will be running into an opponent that can cast his own Sleep spell, but with three elves you guys should be fine.

Shit. I got my editions mixed up. Elves are not immune to Sleep. Well, I guess you guys had better hope you don't meet an evil spellcaster until you're higher level.

Re: OOC
Or we take this in our planning whenever we expect to meet enemies. Using scouts is a great way of avoiding our whole group falling for this or other area effects. The way we position ourselves in combat or when camping can also be critical.
That's something we have to consider for when we meet Elwyn's emissaries. It is likely they will have spellcasters so if we have an opportunity to prepare an ambush it could be useful to spread our numbers to attack them from two or even three different points.

Refer to the Death rules on page 141. Both magical and mundane healing are effective at 0 hp until the victim fails her save vs Death Ray, at which point the character is dead. The Faery Stone will work for up to ten minutes after the save is failed and the PC has actually died.frobozz wrote:Lanny the elf

Re: OOC
Based on that rule (and if I am understanding it correctly), it might be wise to try to make sure that at least one PC that has a healing potion or a healing spell is NOT declaring actions during a big fight, so that they can react on the very same round that a PC falls unconscious, and to try to get them magical/mundane help BEFORE the fallen PC has to make a Saving Throw vs. Death Ray.thirdkingdom wrote:Refer to the Death rules on page 141. Re: OOC
Zebediah, I will get you Drudsa's cantrips as soon as possible.
I'd like to address my thoughts on magic items, for a moment. So, as you can see I try and work some plot hooks/backstory into each item, so they are not simply a "sword +1", a bunch of arrows +2, etc. Doing it this way makes if more difficult for the PCs to be the identifiers of an item, as you can see.
I have never really liked the way wands/staves, etc. are presented as being charged items that have a limited number of uses. Some of them will be, to be sure. But some of them, like the one you just got, is more of an "implement" (to steal a 4e phrase) than an expendable item. However, and I didn't get a chance to post this earlier, while charged items can be picked up and used by anyone (or anyone proficient in their use, at least), items such as Ganch's wand must be attuned to the wielder, a process that can be as simple as the future user spending some time messing about with it to performing a complex ritual. Once attuned to someone it cannot be used by anyone else with going through the re-attunement process. Kind of like the Harry Potter shit. Essentially, it is a way to bind an object to one user.
Also, I always like how in the original Earthdawn (I am not familiar with later editions) one could attune oneself to a magical items and both get more powerful as play progresses, as opposed to constantly upgrading to bigger and better weapons. So, you might see some of this, too.
I think I would also like to implement the "Shields Shall be Splintered" rule as proposed in Fight On!. If it slows things down to much we can always try something new.

Re: OOC
I loved the descriptions for the items, this makes them truly memorable instead of just being a bunch of generic stats and plusses.
If anyone thinks their character would take more advantage of the wand's powers please let me know.

Zebediah, I hope I'm not coming across as a jerk, but Zoltar doesn't have anything for sale. Mages are very stingy. I typically don't allow PCs to trade spells unless there is an even one for one split, but I'm going to go ahead, if you would like, try and learn a couple of spells from the elves. I will even retcon an assumption that you've been studying every evening for a couple of hours since play began.
I'll make shit available, don't worry.

Bregalad the elf
Thirdkingdom, I will be traveling out-of-state for the next few days. However, I like to stay involved in the game. So, I'll try to post at least at the end of each day.
And Drudsa, Breglalad offers up his spell book for your perusal. And after supper, if you like, the elf will show you what he has learned about casting Light.

So, who gets the dagger?
I'd like to keep it but since I can't always post I think it would be fairer if Grey Jake had it. Tough if Makofan doesn't want his character to have it I have no problem using it

Oh by the way, whatever I have down on the Treasure List as to who is carrying each item is simply based on who said something about picking up the item. It is, of course, all up for discussion during treasure division, so please take a look at the list to see if there is something you think your PC could use.Luis wrote:So, who gets the dagger?

Tratiln is currenly ok with others taking the magical items for use as they will have a better chance with them than he gets.
Re: OOC
Grey jake is okay with Saul having the dagger, although since it is a dagger of accuracy and Jake uses daggers as his missile weapons, he does covet it. Jake knows his time is coming, and maybe he'll have a better score!Luis wrote:So, who gets the dagger?

As per the description on the wiki page, orisons are prayed for and chosen by the cleric at the start of each day. So you can pick your own.sulldawga wrote:I'm not in a rush at all but I would like the clerical orisons as well, at some point. Seriously, no rush.
