Act IV: Pandora's Planet
Re: Act IV: Pandora's Planet
Commander Nadix Ar Eth, Science Officer:
The Edosian scientist sedately observes: "All of us except Commander Endilev will be visible to Romulan scanners. And all the Romulans may be invisible to Dr. Ryerson's tricorder.
"Knowing this, perhaps our main group makes an approach to the entrance of the Slaver ruin, while Mr. Endilev covertly flanks us; a secret advantage held in reserve should our forces come under attack."
His yellow eyes calmly regard the landing party for additional ideas.

Stardate 2271.3.24: 1217h

"An excellent suggestion," Commander Endilev responds. To Dr. Ryerson he says, "I'll be fine, Doctor. It's the Romulans you should be worrying about. I will have my communicator on just in case you need to get in touch, though."[/dialog]. With that, the Andorian slips into the jungle heading around the western perimeter of the clearing.
The rest of the landing team are still hidden from sight, overlooking the clearing. The Slaver outpost looms 40 meters away, enveloped in vegetation like some ancient temple or slumbering god. In the distance a strange, brilliantly colored bird with four beaks squawks in harmony with itself, then glides slowly through the air over the clearing, resplendent. It disappears out of view behind the treetops and all is still.

Coxa II: Ruins of the Slaver Outpost
Stardate 2271.3.24: 1220h

The party slowly creeps its way forward out of the jungle cover, stepping carefully through the dense underbrush. The Star Fleet crew's uniforms stand out conspicuously against the local flora's swirling shades of silver and sage green.
The ruin now looms before them a dozen paces away, a perfectly smooth dome twenty-five meters high. Vegetation born of a thousand esoteric evolutionary paths cover the structure, nearly concealing a large doorway five meters in diameter directly in front of the party.
Two meters before the doorway is a podium of black Slaver alloy, also strangled by strange creeping vines. The officers immediately recognize its shape as almost identical to the 'altar' in the Coxan village upon which the Rod of Life rested and charged its power.

Commander Nadix Ar Eth, Science Officer:
Nadix marvels at what his golden eyes behold. Then he murmurs absently, "Ensigns... please secure this perimeter..."
Once done, the astonished Edosian's three legs take him slowly, almost reverently, to the podium. The alien scientist-explorer examines it without touching anything.
Yet.

Re: Act IV: Pandora's Planet
The doorway is in fact closed. It looks as though it should open like a pair of sliding doors.
Re: Act IV: Pandora's Planet
Dr. Ryerson:
The doctor moves forward to the closed door. He hold his tricorder up to the door trying to scan beyond it.

Stardate 2271.3.24: 1221h

At Nadix's orders the ensigns fan out, two to the right and one to the left, slowly circling the majestic structure, built by the awe inspiring secrets of a miraculous science.
Dr. Ryerson cautiously steps up to the door and scans for life signs beyond. He finds that entire structure is made of Slaver alloy, blocking his tricorder from detecting anything within. He finds no handles, buttons or consoles on the surface of the door.
Nadix visually ponders over the podium. He locates a set of braces where the Rod of Life—or another object of its exact dimensions—can be placed. The braces are connected to a set of lights that are glowing faintly blue. Below them are a pair of flat buttons, one glowing brightly red and one glowing faintly green.
Using their communicators the ensigns chime in, and whisper that they have located two more doors on either side of the dome, identical down to the podium with glowing lights: all have their red button glowing brightly.

Dr. Ryerson:
The doctor moves around to the back of the structure to join with the ensigns. "My tricoder can't penetrate the outer haul. The structure is made from the same material as the Slaver Alloy." The doctor move his tricorder over one of the control panels hoping for a result.

Commander Nadix Ar Eth, Science Officer:
(Assuming the other dome doors are also shut...)
"We may require the Rod of Life," says Nadix.
Then, with the third finger of his third hand, the tripod alien with the tripartite name silently counts three and presses the podium's green button.

Coxa II: Ruins of the Slaver Outpost
Stardate 2271.3.24: 1222h

The ensigns respond through their communicators that the doors on either side are also closed.
Dr. Ryerson carefully places his tricorder over the podium and attempts to scan it. He reads nothing: more Slaver metal. However, as soon as he switches over to read energy signatures his tricorder begins to whirr and bleep desperately, overloaded with an intense back signal! Quickly he switches it off before the device is destroyed. It seems that medical scans are operational, but science scans are being actively sabotaged by something in the area. The doctor looks down at the recordings of his tricorder and discovers something remarkable: in the brief time that he was able to scan the podium, he discovered that the mysterious planetary radiation was no longer plaguing the area! Instead, the area is now blanketed by a new life-giving radiation, matching the signature of the Rod of Life but on a monumental scale.
Nadix counts to three and presses the inconspicuous green button on the podium. The podium emits a dull beep from hidden speakers, and then the door before them begins to groan open with an otherworldly sound. Vines and climbing tree roots that cover the entrance begin to snap and stretch as the doors slide to either side, revealing a strangely well-kept carpeted interior, sealed from the elements for so many millennia.
Through the open doorway, Nadix and Ryerson can see an ample hallway, 5 meters wide and 5 meters tall, which stretches back nearly 20 meters before ending at a T-junction. There is some very soft light inside, but they see no light sources from where they are.
Endilev continues to make his way through the jungle trees. From his vantage point to the left of the party he can see Ensign Patel carefully observing the podium and closed door on his side.

Re: Act IV: Pandora's Planet
Commander Nadix Ar Eth, Science Officer:
Nadix examines the vines that were torn by the opening of the immense black portal. Was it possible the Romulans hadn't opened this door? Star?
He opens his communicator and softly requests, "Commander Endilev, please join us."
Once the Andoran engineer arrives, Nadix quietly suggests, "Gentlemen, let us proceed with caution."

Re: Act IV: Pandora's Planet
Nadix finds it scientifically impossible that the Romulans could have opened this door previously, due to the state of the vines.
Re: Act IV: Pandora's Planet

While awaiting Commander Endilev's return, Nadix says to the ensigns, "Can you please show us the other portals you located."
Nadix wants to examine their vines to determine if the Romulans had entered there.

Stardate 2271.3.24: 1225h

Dr. Ryerson switches over his scanning type and finds no traces of Romulan DNA on the podium. It doesn't seem like anything other than wild jungle life has touched this podium in a long, long time.
Nadix meets with the ensigns on either side of the building, confirming that neither of the podiums or the doors have been tampered with recently.
Endilev comes sneaking out of the trees on the left to meet Nadix there. When they meet he whispers, "There is a fourth door on the far side of the building. I could not tell if it was open, but I could clearly see the Rod of Life embedded into the podium outside."
Note: The alien spacecraft shown below is not actually present.

Re: Act IV: Pandora's Planet
Commander Nadix Ar Eth, Science Officer:
Upon hearing Endilev's report, Nadix quietly theorizes, "The Romulans must have entered through that portal."
Via his communicator, the alien science explorer requests that the landing party regroup at the portal near the Rod of Life. Following Star Fleet protocol, he uses oblique, guarded language should the Romulans be monitoring their communications.
There, he visually examines the Rod of Life and postulates, "Its placement here must have unlocked all the portals. Might we seal them, thereby locking the Romulans inside?"

OOC note: I forgot to mention that the Alien Spacecraft shown in the map image above is not actually present. You all probably assumed as much, but I should point it out just in case.
