Devrin

Having found his range, Devrin backs off at the same pace the monster advances. He continues to fire.

(Not sure how initiative works, since I'm not planning to allow the creature to retaliate. I'll just post my attacks and watch for results.)

Just as Devrin unleashes his first arrow, he steps in a soft spot in the sand, which causes the arrow to fly awry.

[1d20+2] = 2+2 = 4 Attack with Bow, inc/ Dex and Race

Resetting his back foot, however, Devrin's second shot flies true, arching perfectly into the beast!

[1d20+2] = 20+2 = 22 Attack with Bow, inc/ Dex and Race

(!!)

[1d6] = 4 Damage from Bow/Arrow

(Any bonus for a nat20?)

I have been making most of the initiative rolls myself, from behind the screen. It seems to work better for me when I write up the rounds outcome. That is all explained in the House Rules thread: viewtopic.php?f=446&t=6229#p289678

You can also find the crit and shit rules there as well: viewtopic.php?f=446&t=6229#p291713

Scraggly Attacks!
Mid Afternoon, Hot, Humid, Sandy

Once the monster is back in the water, it seems to be moving much faster now. It continues its approach as Devrin fires off another 2 arrows at it. The first lands far short of the soggy creature, but the second arrow hits him directly in the throat. The beast lets out a loud gurgled roar that curls the elf's toes a little. Utilizing his long range vision, the elf can see a nasty yellow ooze pouring out from the vicious neck wound.

Devrin backs up the beach towards town, keeping the monster just at the edge of his maximum bow range. The beast yanks this second arrow out as well, tossing it to the side as before. Then it does something fairly unexpected. It suddenly dips back below the waters surface, keeping only its eyes and the top of its greenish head above the surface. It continues following the elf towards town, but seems to be swimming a little further away from the shore now, hoping to avoid any more of the elf's nasty stingers.

The rest of the party keeps running up the beach at a full sprint. They all see the monster disappear into the waves, thinking that perhaps the elf has killed it already....

Alordan continues to jog towards the enemy, keeping pace with his comrades but ensuring he has wind to fight! He considers his bow as he gets closer provided it won't put his new friends at risk for friendly fire.

Saracen will slow down and watch the sea behind the companions, getting a sneaking suspicion they might be getting herded, and on the look out for a sneak attack from behind them.
i take it it doesn't look like the creature he saw earlier then.

Saracen and Alordan didn't get a good enough look at the creature last time to be able to tell if it is the same one, especially from this distance. It is in almost the exact same spot on the beach, however.

Devrin

Devrin points out the eyes/head of the creature, obviously excited. "It's right there! It's right there!! Did you SEE that? I hit it right in the throat and it just tore the arrow out and kept going! Does anyone know what that thing is?"

The Elf starts to calm down a little. "And I don't think it has given up. It seemed to be following my movements."

Saracen wisely slows his pace and keeps an eye on the area behind the group while the others run on.

The monster's head and eyes continue moving towards the elf as it swims along parallel to the beach, now about 40 feet from the sand. It seems to be trying to put Devrin in between it and the jungle. It gets a little closer to doing so when the elf starts yelling and pointing at it.

Unfortunately, the others are still a long way down the beach and won't arrive for some time yet. Devrins words are almost instantly lost on the warm tropical breezes.

Actions?
I know this is hard to follow with no position map, but in game terms, the monster will reach you in about 2 1/2 more rounds if you stay where you are. The others won't get to you for several more rounds.

Devrin

Devrin is careful not to back into the edge of the jungle. As the creature attempts to maneuver him, the Elf keeps to the widest bit of beach he can and stays near the centerline between the water and the jungle. He doesn't waste arrows on the small target presented right now, but waits for the creature to 'go shallow' and present him with something more substantial.

Jack, lost boy:

Jack sprints down the shoreline, running on the grass instead of the sand for added speed.

When he sees Devrin firing arrows into the waves, his grin fades. I hope the monster is still alive when I get there!

Scraggly Attacks!
Mid Afternoon, Hot, Humid, Sandy

Devrin is content to wait for the monster to make the next move, hoping that his new friends can traverse the long distance and get to him before it’s too late. He stays close to the center of the beach, about half way in between the water and the jungle. The huge creature continues swimming parallel to the beach until it is lined up with Devrin, keeping the sea to its back and the jungle to the back of the elf.

Jack tries desperately to get to the action before all the fun is over. He doesn’t utilize the hard packed beach trail, instead opting to stay right at the edge of the vegetation. The boy gets really mad when he sees the long legged and now completely unencumbered giant dumb guy actually pass him along the beach. With Monocar leading the charge, Jack, Raythan, and Alordan are now in the second pack of runners. Luther is slowly bringing up the rear, well behind the others, while Saracen is in dead last now that he has slowed his pace to monitor the area behind the party.

While Devrin watches them all get a little closer, he continues to keep one eye on the huge beast that is also moving closer to him. Well before the others are set to arrive, the beast begins swimming straight at the beach and the lone elf. Its speed in the water is quite impressive. It closes the last bit of distance between the two in a hurry and begins to exit the shallows, heading straight at Devrin. The closer it gets, the more of its huge body becomes exposed.

Actions?

Devrin Treesong 9/9 CL, DM, RM, 1/1 first
Alordan 9/10
Saracen Solaris 10/12 0/3 first
Jack 8/10 CL, DM, RM, 1/1 first
Monocar 12/12
Luther 11/13
Raythan 6/6 CL, DM, RM, 1/1 first / 3/3 first (cleric)

I pushed the action ahead a few rounds since it was only movement anyway. At this point Monocar will arrive on the scene after 2 more full rounds. Jack, Raythan, and Alordan won’t arrive for 7 more rounds. Luther and Saracen won’t arrive for a long while yet. Monocar and Devrin are now close enough to hear each other’s dialog.

Devrin

The elf waits until the creature is waist deep in the water, and then opens fire again. 'Much closer now. Be careful.' he thinks to himself. But he also hopes the shorter range will help his aim.

[1d20+2] = 14+2 = 16 Attack with Bow, inc/ Dex and Race

[1d6] = 6 Damage from Bow/Arrow

[1d20+2] = 4+2 = 6 Attack with Bow, inc/ Dex and Race

The second arrow missing rattles Devrin, and he decides that the creature is close enough. He begins to move towards the approaching Monocar quickly.

"Be careful! I put an arrow in its throat and it barely slowed it down!! It's tough."

Scraggly Attacks! For Real This Time!
Mid Afternoon, Hot, Humid, Sandy

Devrin sees the slimy green giant charging straight towards him now as it rises up out of the water but he still doesn't even flinch. This elf clearly has steel running through his veins. He draws back his bow and plunks another arrow deep into the monster as it advances towards him. Again, the vicious beast barely flinches. The elfs second arrow misses badly, allowing it to lumber on. As soon as the monster leaves the water, his speed falters almost to a crawl again. Obviously this thing wasn’t designed to run well on land.

It continues to try to get at Devrin for a quick taste, lugging its disgusting form up the sand to within 20 feet from the elf. Devrin looks towards Monnocar and thinks it might be time to head in the big mans direction. Much to his horror, Devrin can no longer see any evidence of the damage that his earlier arrows caused. Somehow, the things nasty throat wound seems to have healed itself almost completely in only a few short moments.

Actions?

You cant fire twice and then move in the same round so I still have you standing in the same spot with the monster coming at you that is now only 20 feet away. It is pretty clear that you can easily outmaneuver the lanky beast on land, though. Monocar will arrive at the end of your next round of action.

Devrin

Already turning a heel to leave, Devrin sees the wounds he has inflicted closing. That settles it for him, and he runs in Monocar's direction.

"I've skewered the damn thing, but it's healing almost as fast as I hurt it."

The elf sees Monocar has his sword out and stops near him. He slings his bow and lays hand on his sword hilts.

"Fight or flee? I'm with you either way."

Good Thinking!

The creature gives chase, staying right at the edge of the waterline where the waves lap up peacefully onto the sand. This huge thing moves ridiculously slow on land. It's large webbed feet flop this way and that, splashing salty water on itself and all around as it advances.

Devrin puts some distance between he and it, quickly teaming up with the oncoming and oddly attired Monocar. Wearing a makeshift boot, dirty pantaloons, and no armor other than his original breastplate, the mountainous human waves his only weapon around out in front of him. The shortsword that he acquired from the murdered dead logging trail bandits.

I very much appreciate you speeding this part along so well!!! It will definitely allow the others to get involved sooner and not have to wait forever to do something. :D

You two kinda met in the middle so the monster is about 150 feet or so up the beach and coming towards you slowly.

Jack, Alordan, and Raythan will arrive in 5 more rounds.
