Monocar
Gets a little anxious and looks around himself for a good couple foot and handholds. He takes a tentative "step" upward to the new perch, trying to get a better listen on whatever might be happening.

Luther's hoping the same thing- A LOT!OGRE MAGE wrote:Monocar continues to listen, staying put where he is in the tree for now. He hears more conversation from above, but he isn't able to make out the words. So far, things don't seem to be getting too heated. He hopes Luther knows what he is doing up there.

Monocar believes he sees the end of the rope vine elevator appear from the hole. It looks like they may be about to lower the ranger back down to the ground again.

Blinks and waits. Half hoping he climbed up for nothing and that they are going to lower his friend bacl down.

Looks down slack jawed. "How did...?" he looks up at the platform and then back down to Luthar. "Did you get magiced down there? Never mind, I'm coming down!" He begins climbing back down... down... down...

Midday in Beacthown
The nearly exhausted Monocar climbs down from his tree as Luther is slowly lowered back down to the ground on the vine rope.
The ranger has quite the story to tell once he reunites with Raythan and Monocar.
In fact, Luther calls anyone from the other groups around as well, thinking that they might also want to hear what he has learned from the tree dwelling creatures who's homes seem to surround Beachtown.

Saracen ruffles the little elfs hair and pats him gently on the back. "It's for your own good lad, don't want any harming coming to you now do we! Oh look, isn't that the ranger over there, with that fighter who talks to himself in a weird way?" the orange robed half-orc points, noticing Luther calling them over.

Monocar
Long morning of timber work, a hard climb up... and down... the large young man flexes his sore arms and rubs his shoulders but is wide-eyed while listening to the story. He keeps looking from Luthar and back up to the Monkoon Settlement fascinated. "That's amazing! You suppose it was that big marble that helped him talk to you? I hope he didn't use it up. Sounds like he used it up. I hate that we were pretty much trespassing on their turf. I would never have thought they were people-ish. What's the word my brother used to use? Cindy It. Yeah, something like that. They are all Cindy its! I wonder how much of this is theirs?" The realization obviously settling in on his mind that they might well be in "Town square" and have nowhere to go.
"What if we have to move Beach Town? What if there is no place we can settle in without disturbing the monkoons or the veggimites?"

Luther
I think we can find a middle ground with the Tree People- I'm not going to call them 'monkoons' any more- they're people, same as us. I think we can get to a place we can have peace with them- maybe even trade for food, handcrafts, whatever.
First step is to identify their trees- I asked 'em to mark their trees with red flowers, but we need to do our part to find 'em too.
Luther raises his voice to include all the villagers and volunteers. I need anyone with really good eyesight! We've got a village up in the canopy- they can be either friend or foe, depending on what we do! You folks that can see the best- study the branches and look for signs of the Tree People's village- any tree that supports it, you mark it with red flowers- pieces of cloth- signs- whatever it takes to make sure that tree doesn't get cut!
Luther pauses, rubbing at his bruised ribs. Monocar- you and me need to get healed up. Once we have, we'll see what we can find out about this "thing" in the sea. Sorry you had all that climbing for nothin'. I appreciate your intentions, tho.

Nods listening. "That makes sense. What do they call themselves? Did they say? Fuzzivites? Hanzees? Ewoks? I wonder what they do or would want to trade. Maybe they have a cure for keeping these bugs away..."
Listening to the announcement and thinking to himself. This guy reminds me a lot of Dad. He is a take charge kind of guy, really knows what to do next. I miss that old man... I wonder if someone can help me get a letter to him and let him know we're okay out here. Maybe he will send cookies....First step is to identify their trees- I asked 'em to mark their trees with red flowers, but we need to do our part to find 'em too.
"I'll help with that. We need to make sure that any of them that were marked for cutting that are now "Red Flowered"
don't get double marked. I can scratch off the cutter mark and then we'll put the flower over the rubbing. I don't want there to be an accidental chopping if it means someone is going to lose a home."
"It's not a problem! A good climb is good exercise. Keeps the arms strong. I'm just glad you are okay. What about Owen?Luther pauses, rubbing at his bruised ribs. Monocar- you and me need to get healed up. Once we have, we'll see what we can find out about this "thing" in the sea. Sorry you had all that climbing for nothin'. I appreciate your intentions, tho.
Was he okay? Should we see if the Monk.... People up there will let us send up some medicine or something? Far as the creature out there in the water, I wonder if we can just bait them like a fish and then lure him out into the open. Maybe we can trap him and see what he is all about. I mean, if the Monk... I mean the people up there turned out to be people when we thought they were little monsters, who is to say this guy isn't the same, or that there is more than one. What is there is a giant underwater city of fish people and we fished out all their food and now they are angry like the tree people are? What if we are disrupting the whole area and it is leading to some kind of disaster? What if all the air is going to start getting hotter? What if we are causing the bugs to overpopulate? Maybe we are having an impact on the entire globe? What fi there is an invisible shield of some sort protecting all the big ice up north and we are unintentionally putting a hole in it and the ice melts and the world flood and it is all because we are chopping the black tree and creating a global disaster that will affect generations to come?" He sees the look in Luthar's eyes and stops. "uh... yeah, so. Mark the trees. Heal up. Get Fish Face. Got it...."

Saraecn will step forward and call forth the healing light of Pholtus, bathing first Luther [1d8] = 2 and then Monocar [1d8] = 5 with his light magic.
All praise the blinding light! That's one off the list already. That Raythan is a skinflint with his healing magic! I saw the fish creature hunting us off the shallows as we returned from water gathering. Perhaps the Druid might be useful in communicating with it if he returns from the native village. he finishes.

Saracen likes the information he's just received so much that he immediately gets to work on crossing items off the list. He calls forth the blessings of his god and heals both of the tree hugging humans.
Monocar 12/12
Luther 11/13
They each suddenly feel much better.
Ideas and thoughts on future preparation continue to come together nicely.

Jack, lost boy:
Jack wanders back to town like something the cat dragged in.
Muddy face, hands and clothes. Sad that no one will take him zombie hunting. And that Rococo the monkoon never showed up! Jack looks like a pathetic street urchin. He mopes over to the group by Luther to sulk some more. After listening to the frantic commotion, he says, "But... Captain Bing and his counterfeit loggers will cut down any black trees they can find!"
Jack tries to identify the species of tree being protected by red flowers.

Monocar
Goes wide-eyed looking at his wounds as they close before his eyes, all the angry red around his cuts and the throbbing in his head disappears. He looks up as if in shock at Saracen listening to his words. He falls on his knees and wraps his massive arms around the half-orc's waist trembling. He's never seen healing magic before and can barely comprehend what he just saw. "Yes! Yes!
The Light is pretty! The Light is pretty! Thank you! Thank you! Your God is my God! Now and forever! I Promise! Thank you!"
OOC: I know that Monocar never had a declared god, but he does now. He will declare Pholtus as his god.

None of the trees are marked with any colored flowers.Inferno wrote:Jack, lost boy: tries to identify the species of tree being protected by red flowers.
Luther suggested that the monkoons place a red flower on the trees that they don't want cut down. They have not done this. Then I think he realized that they don't want ANY more of the tall trees cut down.
Then Monocar babbled something about marking trees as well, but who can ever tell what he is talking about?

Then Chauncey made a proclamation about no more tree cutting by pain of death.
So, as of right now, I am considering ALL tree cutting to be halted for the time being. If that is not the case, please speak up.

Devrin
"OK, wait just a moment," says Devrin. "It's getting fairly obvious that we are ahead of ourselves. We aren't going to stop the people here from clearing trees. We aren't going to make the Monkoons choose which trees to lose. Trust an elf in that matter. But we might get a compromise.
Here's what I am thinking, and I'd like to hear what you have to say. What if we can get the Monkoons to swing their village to the east of Beachtown? And then we just need to get Beachtown to agree NOT to grow to the east. We could offer assistance to both sides, and sweeten the pot that way."

Devrin
Just a bit later, Devrin hunts down Jack. "Can I talk to you, Jack?" he asks. "We're really going to need you soon, Jack. We are not done trying to talk to the Monkoons and you have had a lot of success getting that started. I hope you'll continue to help."
Devrin sits down and looks Jack in the eye. "Do you mind if I ask you a question, Jack? My people have legends and other old stories about people like you." Devrin continues very respectfully. "Do you know how long you were in Fae? In Fairyland? Some of the old stories talk about children being taken for a hundred years. Some stories talk about children being taken for FIVE hundred years.
I have never even imagined meeting someone who came back. What can you tell me?"

Jack, lost boy:
As the brave adventurers turn into urban planners, Jack gets bored again. "Doesn't anyone want to hunt down the source of the zombies that attacked the town the other day?!"
When Devrin asks him about the faerie folk, Jack freezes. "Um... Nope!" he lies and quickly scampers away thinking, How did he know?!?
