The large hall is dark and quiet. The shades over the windows are pulled down tight, letting very little light into the room. You can still see the Mayors large desk sitting upon the raised upper area where you first met with the towns only noble.

The place is completely empty and there are no signs of recent activity. Long tapestries line the back wall behind the desk. From the outside layout of the manor, it appears that the back of this long hall connects to the rest of the home.

You see no sign of the Mayor or her guards anywhere with in the meeting hall. The room is completely silent.

Sir Ugghra, half-orc aristocrat:

The beautific beast stalked in, opened the shades and exclaimed, "Dash It All! She's Escaped!"

Then he shouted rather loudly, "Hello?! Sorry! I Say, Please Do Excuse Us But Is There Anyone About?!"

Angella begins looking behind the tapestries to see if there are any concealed or secret doors within the chamber.

"We should probably check to see if there is a cellar or attic or hidden room someone where within. If the Mayoress is possessed I would wager there would need to be some magical construction somewhere here abouts."

Ozwaldus begins helping look for secret passages in the back of the room, before realizing he has no idea what he's looking for. If there are any wall sconces, he truest tugging on them, having seen such a thing in a play once. If that doesn't work, he'll try pulling out any unusual books. If that doesn't work, he'll take a seat at the desk and resume drinking from his flask.

The ranger will search the desk. Not sure what she is looking for, but will see what she can find.

The investigation immediately gets underway as the group tears into the place. Ugghra begins to throw open window blinds and shout out for assistance. This draws the attention of one outside passerby who stares for a bit but keeps on walking past. There is no answer from within.

Orando smartly thinks to check the amulet of Brother Tomas but then remembers that the priest took the item back before their last parting. Pity.....

Behind the tapestries, a normal wooden door is found. It looks as though it leads into the Mayweather's manor that lies beyond. No other doors are found, secret or otherwise, on any of the other walls or floors.

The desk is not locked but you barely even notice the empty drawers after seeing what adorns the once beautiful mahogany top. Scrawled into the wood on every inch of the desktop in tiny, cuneiform letters, read the words:

My idiot Brother seems to have developed a rather unhealthy addiction to human flesh.

The macabre words are carved deep and cover the entire surface of the large desktop.

Father Dowling

Hmm. I don't know if the mayor is directly responsible for any disappearances, but it seems she knows who is. I'm curious, though. Why would she hire us if she knows who the killer is?

"It does say Brother with a capital B."

"What evidence to we have against the Mayor? Brother Tomas says she changed following her being attacked 20 years ago. Could it be that Brother Tomas is the one who changed? After all he is the one with the amulet..."

"Hmm, very intrigueing," says Orando. "If it is Brother Tomas, perhaps we should confront him and use my ESP. But the holy symbol did not glow in his presence, so..."

Sir Ugghra, half-orc aristocrat:

"I Have," replied the prideful paladin. "He Radiated No Evil, But That Is Not Conclusive In Matters Of Demonic Possession.

"I've Never Trusted Tomas!"
he boasted. "Far Too Secretive, To My Mind, To Be Trustworthy. He's Alone Now With Positive Steve. We'd Best See To Him."

On the way...
"One More Thing," Sir Ugghra said, turning to Orando. "I Had Assumed That Was Your Childish Prank, Scrawling Upon the Church Door. Was It?"

As ideas and discussion are brought forth, Angella finds that the door behind the tapestries is not trapped. It is most certainly locked, however. The monk pulls out her tools and easily pops the lock open after hearing the reassuring audible click.

The door swings inward. The room beyond is very dark, but from the outlines of the furniture, it appears to be a small private office.

Light source, please. :D

Once it is better lit, you can immediately tell that this room has been unoccupied for a long, long time. Several layers of dust cover every inch of this place. Just inside the door you notice a large pile of stuff that seems to have been tossed on the floor. The items at the top of the pile only have a little dust on them while the items closest to the floor are covered with it.

The pile consists of mostly discarded papers, but there are a few books, trinkets, and other personal items in the mix as well. It appears to be the contents of several desk drawers that have been dumped out over many years time. Near the top of the pile, you see something written on parchment that most certainly catches your eye. It is a list of names entitled, The Heroes of Brotherton: Most of the names at the top of the list are crossed out.

There is one more open door on the other side of this room, presumably leading further into the manor. There is no evidence that anyone has been in here for many years as the thick dust throughout the room looks completely undisturbed.

Angella will keep the light flickering as the others rummage through the pile. "It might be prudent to keep this list as evidence " the monk says cautiously.

"I wonder if those mentioned are the ones amongst the vanished or if they have been set about the task of discovering what has been happening here? If the latter it seems that perhaps the mayoress, at least part of her, is fighting a war with herself, still trying to protect the township maybe?" The she monk shrugs

Sir Ugghra, half-orc aristocrat:

"...Or Simply Ensuring That Any Who Could Offer Resistance Are First to Be Killed," opined the gentleman primate.

"Positive Steve Is In Danger," he repeated. "We Should Confront Tomas With All Due Haste."
